Second Life Notifier 1.1.2v62 (Mac OS X)

good app, but could use some improvement...

Interesting application, but could use a little work. it feels very clustered/busy, because the preferences aren't located in a separate window accessible from a menu item. I feel it would be much more unobtrusive it it appeared onscreen as a much more simplified list. Additionally, a feature worth considering would be better indicators of which friends have just come online or just left. Personally, i feel this would be best accomplished if the names of friends that have just been added to the list appear in the list for a brief time (maybe 1.5 seconds?) in bold, and the names of those who have gone offline appear in italics for 1.5 seconds before being removed from the list. Another aspect that i'm unsure about is why the locations don't constantly appear next to the names of online friends. is that a bug in the app, or something with Second Life itself? [alert admin]

rEFIt 0.3 (Mac OS X)

Linux, WinXP, os9? ;)

I don't have an Intel Mac, but this utility sounds incredible! Here's a suggestion, i hope the developer can include it in a future version - How about also adding the ability to boot from an os9 installation? [alert admin]

Apple Front Row 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

the Software requires specific Hardware…

I agree that it would be nice to have Front Row on all Macs, but there's one small problem - Front Row is designed for use with the iMac's included remote and IR port, which no other Macs have. If you can't use Front Row from across your room, you might as well just open your iLife apps from the dock the old fashioned way. It may be a software pckage, but it's (more or less) hardware dependant, and I doubt that Apple has any plans to offer or officially support/sanction backwards compatibility. HOWEVER, that's not to discount the possibility that Apple may create monitors in the future with IR ports and iSights built-in. At least that's what I hope. :) [alert admin]

MacSudoku 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Importing impossible puzzles?

i love the feature which allows you to import puzzles in ASCII format, but i think it could be made more functional by warning you if an imported puzzle cannot be solved, (because of an improperly placed number or space). [alert admin]

Cabos 0.3.3 (Mac OS X)

Please Fix!

Ever since the 0.3.3 update, Cabos displays a message upon launch that says, "Cabos requires Java 1.3.1 or lator..."[sic]. This is confusing to me, as i'm using 10.3.9, and have Java 1.4.2 installed. The dialog box then only gives the option to either visit Java's website, or quit, which has effectively rendered this once stunningly functional piece of software all but useless. I sincerely hope the developer is working on this, because i love using this software. [alert admin]

You Control: Tunes 1.3 (Mac OS X)

too many hoops..

aside from the general stupidity of them asking us to register freeware BEFORE allowing us to try it, i haven't been able to use this after installing it over a day ago because they haven't replyed to my registration request yet. I'd like to be able to say something good about the software, but so far, it's just been more hassle than it's worth, especilly for what's supposed to be easy-to-use free software. the registration doesn't seem to be automated, (which is stupid since it's handled through a form on their website), and the delay is too long on top of that. synergy may not be free, but at least they let you try it for free for a week before bugging you about registration. these guys hammer you with it right off the bat, lock you out of using the softare until you do, and for $0 at that. and previous comments have even said that this software phones home! what's up with that?! i'lll continue to wait patiently until i'm able to actually use this software, and when i'm able to, i'll give it a fair chance on my system, but until then, i cannot recommend it, due to the user experience [alert admin]

ASM 2.1b5 (Mac OS X)

is this a tip?

if you can find ASM 2.0.3 (the most recent non-beta version), I'd recommend it. it works great in Panther, and IT'S FREE! (just ignore the warning it gives you when you install it). if anyone needs a link, here's ONE, curtosey of our friends at Apple ;) (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/asm.html) [alert admin]

Could not repair my drive

You kno, ther does come a point in a hard drive's life when it will just stop working, and from the sound of it, your hard drive has fallen into that unfortunate category. i hope you kept backups. Drive failure is most commonly a hardare issue, and in such a case, there really isn't too much that a software product can do about the hardware beyond alerting you to the possibility of a hard drive…

I miss the pre 0.5.9 days!

Interestingly enough, with Cabos being Open Source software, the source code is freely available for people to download, examine, and make changes to. I too was dissatisfied with the limit of 3 networks, so i plan to ask a buddy if he could change it back to 5, or even higher to maximize search results. Wish me luck. >;)
