Data Rescue II 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Gordon from Prosoft here.... I'm looking at our website, www.prosoftengineering.com for the quote that you mentioned, but I can't find it.. I wish you would've called into our offices or emailed us. You are looking at very old information on our site (which should be taken down, as it is not referring to the current product, which does indeed do a good job of recovering deleted files). As mentioned, I cannot find that text anywhere, when navigating through the various pages, so I am thinking that you have found this old information via an old link or something (not unusual, but something we can track down)...I am able to find references to not being able to recover deleted files in OS X for our older versions of Data Rescue (which we still support and therefore still have pages up for on our website), but this is old info for an older product which has been replaced... That was indeed the case for a long time (OS X recovery of deleted files was very, very hard to do, since OS X works very differently than any previous OS's from Apple)... However, with the improvements we made in Data Rescue II, we are seeing good progress with recovery of deleted files. I'm a bit shocked by your dismissal of every good review on VT, our website, every magazine and other places for Data Rescue II.. Just a few weeks ago, Data Rescue II was in the spotlight during the Quicken update issue (just google Quicken Data Rescue).. We helped a huge number of Quicken users recover their deleted databases... It's one thing to say you're weary of a few testimonies, but to call all of the posts on VT "BS and marketing hype" is really quite different. Did you know the FBI uses this product? The CIA, DoD, Dept of Homeland Defense, heck, even Apple has a worldwide site license which covers all Apple employees...They don't decide to buy site licenses for software (and continue to annually maintain the licenses) if it was all marketing hype and BS... The facts remain that Data Rescue is indeed the top-rated data recovery software for the Mac. Deleted files, non-mounting drives, corrupted drives and other issues are reasons that people buy Data Rescue and then sing its praises afterwards. Heck, you can even look at our Hall-Of-Fame posts from happy customers that took the time out of their busy lives to say thanks, send a note and even a pic of themselves for us to post. I can guarantee you that those are not fake. Your final note is something that we always tell people... Backup as much and as often as you can... But you know what? The vast majority don't do it and that is why there is a need for products like Data Rescue. If you ever get a chance, come by our booth at any tradeshow we attend.. Stand around for about 10 minutes and you'll be surprised to see random people come up to us and say stuff like, "Just wanted to thank you guys.. you saved all my data a few months ago.. Thanks" (I've even had people wait 5-10 minutes, while i've been giving a demo to someone else.. just so they could tell me thanks personally..)--- They aren't playing to a crowd, trying to win a t-shirt or anything, they just want to extend a "thanks" to us for what our product did for them- I'm saddened that you consider all of this BS and marketing hype, because what you'd find out is, we really do have some of the happiest, most loyal customers and I'm very proud to be a part of a little lifesaver we call Data Rescue.. Sincerely, Gordon from Prosoft... [alert admin]

iDefrag 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Here's some great reading: http://www.coriolis-systems.com/refund-policy.php It mentions that if you, the customer, are seeking a refund, and go to your credit card company to reverse the charges that they (the company) may indeed seek legal action against you for that money back as well as any money they spend on that legal action.. To me, and to potential customers, that doesn't sound so good. Number one, they are promoting a fairly aggressive action to their customers in case of a dispute (it's software, it doesn't really cost us (the developer) should someone steal it, not pay for it or get their "refund" by dealing with their own credit card company.. Number two, it is interesting that they have had to actually spell that out right on their website. Makes a customer wonder what has happened in the past to have them want to post that. I am just amazed that you do not find that attitude/threat not even worth talking about. On one side you have an award winning product used by Apple (Drive Genius) and on the other side you have the above threat from a company.. How can you not comment about that? [alert admin]

Drive Genius 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Hello again, From what I hear from customers and people "on the street" is that SuperDuper support is good and the product works nicely for a lot of customers. Other customers have an issue with SuperDuper or just plain prefer our Data Backup due to different features available. The same can be said for Data Backup (others prefer SuperDuper to it)... As far as Disk Utility from Apple, it's actually very interesting that you bring that up.. Many people know that before it was called Disk Utility, it was called Drive SetUp... If you have an older mac lying around with Drive SetUp on it, do a Get Info on that app....It actually says, "licensed to Apple Computer from Prosoft Engineering." .... As far as Apple Support, some like it while others have had issues with it... I tend to like it , especially when compared to other computer manufacturers.. That leads us to the makers of iDefrag and iPartition.... I do not have personal experience dealing with their support.. From their website, it looks like they only offer Website FAQs and email support. Support via email for a disk utility can be less than desirable. The really interesting part to their website is the link I posted below... Here it is again: Here's some great reading: http://www.coriolis-systems.com/refund-policy.php It mentions that if you, the customer, are seeking a refund, and go to your credit card company to reverse the charges that they (the company) may indeed seek legal action against you for that money back as well as any money they spend on that legal action.. On one side you have an award winning product used by Apple (Drive Genius) and on the other side you have the above threat from a company.. How can you not comment about that? As far as your comments about Drive Genius just being a "demo" of the features included with your listed products, that is very far from the truth... Drive Genius is used by the Apple Genius Bar every day to defrag drives... Why? Because it is a demo or somehow lesser of a product than others? No.. Apple uses it because they chose it as THE tool to use for defragging a hard drive, period.... No one else can claim that.. Drive Genius has the features listed on the box, on the website.. It does them very, very well.. So well that it's been awarded over and over again by all the major magazines as well as being chosen by Apple to be used at the Genius Bar for their ProCare Tune Up program.. Drive Genius does what it does better than any other tool set out there (So says MacUser, MacAddict, MacFormat, Macworld Magazine and many, many others.). [alert admin]

Drive Genius 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Drive Genius = Award Winning software
Gordon from Prosoft here. Drive Genius has been on the market for over two full years now and has won top awards from every major Mac magazine. Drive Genius is also one of the top selling utilities in the Apple stores. In fact, Drive Genius is used every single day at the Apple Stores Genius Bar (for the Defrag feature, as part of the ProCare Tune Up program). Besides all the major award-winning functions that Drive Genius offers, it also offers something that is priceless for most customers and that is real-live-technical support. Most other companies are shying away from that, instead only offering FAQs on their website and trying to pass that off as "support". With Prosoft Engineering, you can actually call and talk to a live person who's there to help you or guide you. If you live overseas, we recommend Skype or similar service to use when calling.. Take a look at the competing companies' websites. What are their technical support hours that they answer the phones? Some don't have live tech support while others charge you $30 a call after the first 30 days...Some just tell you: "Hey, don't call us, we don't want to talk to you on the phone..just use our FAQs or send us an email". I don't know about you, but if I'm to trust a utility with my hard drive, i better be able to give them a call if i run into any problem... Here's some great reading: http://www.coriolis-systems.com/refund-policy.php Read what happens to you, the customer, should you have a Billing Dispute or Chargeback--- [alert admin]

Data Backup 3.0.0 (Mac OS X)
please give our support team a call
Hi there-- I saw your post mentioning a competing product a few times. Unfortunately you didn't mention any specific problems you had, just saying it's buggy and mentioning the competing product again... Data Backup 3 comes with free technical support both via email and phone, so please give us a call! (excuse my post if it sounds combative in any way.. I guess I just get suspicious when an individual who's never posted any comments or reviews before all of a sudden posts, and then posts without giving specifics, and instead just mentions competing products over and over)... We'd really love to hear about specific issues you are having so that we can work on them to get them fixed. Prosoft is dedicated to providing great products and continually improving them. Cheers, Gordon from Prosoft [alert admin]

Drive Genius 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Hi there, You mention that the download link didn't work. Please note that sometimes a user's email service may truncate the link. You can always try the following: 1) Click on the link that comes in the email--if that doesn't work, then 2) Cut and paste full link into your browser- If that doesn't work, then contact the Prosoft sales team at sales@prosofteng.com and give them your serial number or your order number or just your name and we can look up your order and resubmit a new link for you-- For the issues you're seeing with the drive repair not being able to fix your system, I'd recommend contacting our support team to see if there are any other options in your case-- Thanks-- Gordon from Prosoft [alert admin]

Drive Genius 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Hi there-- Actually, most people do indeed compare Drive Genius with Diskwarrior. On the Prosoft website you can read a bunch of reviews from all the major magazines and see that most reviews include Drive Genius, Diskwarrior and TechTool Pro in the same story. Drive Genius has won the MacUser "Best of" for the past 2 years against both Diskwarrior and TechTool Pro Also, it's important to point out that Drive Genius is not just a repartitioning tool (as you mention), but has many other features (directory repair and drive optimization to name just a few). In fact, Apple uses Drive Genius every day at the Genius Bar for the Pro Care Tune-Up program (they use Drive Genius to defrag your drive for you). Gordon from Prosoft [alert admin]

Hi PiotrGM, Gordon from Prosoft here.... I believe your last post was probably removed by VT admins because as you said, you didn't "mince words". Putting up a bad review or a "Hey, these guys need to do a better job of xyz" type of comment is definitely encouraged and supported, but perhaps your post was over the line for VT. We would still like to give you the support that you're looking for and I'm inviting…

Hi there, Because of the type of application that Hear is, you have to use the uninstaller to remove all pieces that are in place. Simply deleting the app and other items won't get all the pieces, which is why we have the uninstaller as part of the application.. Go ahead and load the demo of Hear back on then just choose "Uninstall" from the main Hear drop down menu item.. You'll have to do a restart…

Hi Central Scrutinizer, Sorry to hear you don't care for the new UI. The new UI is definitely quite a big step away from regular UI of products past. The fact is, the vast majority of people that see the new UI and use the product love it. It really has been the number one feature that people have been excited about-- Of course, UI and design are indeed personal preference and although the overwhelming majority of…

Hi again, Thanks for taking the challenge to demo the product out!--- There are a few things to point out. Because of the type of product that Hear is, (It runs as a daemon so it affects all sounds, not just iTunes) you will need to restart after installing (it prompts you to do that).. Also, the presets are there to be starting points.. Everyone has different speakers and tastes, so really get into the EQ and change…

Hi there, Everyone has an opinion and you're definitely entitled to your own :-) As it turns out, Hear is rapidly becoming the most popular product under the JoeSoft name, and it even won an Editor's Choice award from MacLife Magazine (just hit the streets)... We're also seeing a broad mix of users for Hear. Some users are fairly basic users running off-the-shelf speakers they've bought from the Apple Store or Best Buy.. Other users…

Hi guys, I know, when I read this review from the poster, I thought, "Oh wow, great positive review!" but then almost immediately afterwards I thought, "Oh no.. People reading this are going to think this is something we the company posted, because it is so overwhelmingly positive.." I can assure you that this post is indeed a valid post from a very excited user who is not an employee, friend of an employee, mother of employee,…

Hi there, Thanks for the feedback. We are getting more details about the Skype problem that you are seeing and we're expecting to have a fix for that shortly-- This is the first we've heard of a problem with Yahoo Messenger, so we'll also look into that as well.. If you have Hear installed, it will auto-update once a new build is released, hopefully soon.. Thanks for your support and if possible, we'd love to…

Free Leopard Boot DVD for current customers
Hi Michael, Yes, the situation over the past few months has not been ideal, I don't think anyone will argue with that. We, as well as the 4 to 5 other vendors that ship boot DVDs as part of their product, have been emailing and contacting Apple on a weekly basis to inquire about when they expect to release a boot DVD that is Leopard-based. UPDATE: Apple finally released the Leopard Boot DDK on Friday May…
