LaTeXiT 1.14.4 (Mac OS X)

Please enlarge size of visible icon

I know it is a weird request, but sometimes (especially on a dark background, and on the dock) all one can see is the tiny inner green part. Could be helpful, in my opinion, either to scale up the inner part, or else add a noticeable icon background. And by the way, I like Latexit a lot. [alert admin]

NeoOffice 2.2.2 patch 11 (Mac OS X)

Never ending "Couldn’t contact Spell Checker" alert

I keep getting the Alert "Couldn’t contact Spell Checker", and cannot proceed beyond. After OKing the alert, I get it again and again. Altogether, NeoOffice 2.2.2 patch 11 does not work at this stage. (OSX 10.5.2, PPC & Intel)) [alert admin]

Textures 2.2.0b4 (Mac OS X)

$99 & up... You must be joking!

Admittedly, in the old days, Textures was the leader. But nowadays, with so many Tex/Latex freewares of excellent quality floating around, why should anyone pay $99 & up... What is the hidden secret? And here comes a second joke. Contrary to the official statement, this version is free only to Texture owners... You download it naively as a Demo, but you are immediately being asked for a serial. In other words, they want us to buy the serial number without actually having a chance to test the application. I may buy it out of curiosity, just to reveal the $99 & up mystery... [alert admin]

Mathematica 6.0 (Mac OS X)

Mathematica 6.0 (Mac version) loaded with bugs

At first I was sure something must be wrong with my Mac, but exactly the same bugs made their appearance on my very old G4 (PPC, 400MHz), G4 (PPC, 933MHz), and on my new PowerBook Pro (Intel, 2.33 GHz). First, it takes an infinite amount of time to open Mathematica files with v.6. Sometime the application opens up, but the .nb files would not. The .m files are not recognized by v.6. You can instruct your Mac to open a certain .m file with v.6, but a bug does not allow you to make all .m files carry the v.6 icon. Occasionally, the formating does not respond; I keep fighting forever with text colors options, and especially with the styles which change on a voluntary basis. The Find utility crumbles; Often, attempting to type the 'Replace with' object results in typing on the notebook itself. Not even funny. 2. They put so much effort in re-inventing Mathematica, but at least the Mac version (I am not familiar with the Windows or Linux performance) cries back to v.5.2. This is quite unfortunate as v.6 seems to be loaded with goodies which, at least at the present stage, I cannot enjoy. To summarize, Mac users like me are eagerly waiting to v.6.1... 3. What is most frustrating is the fact that I cannot find anywhere on the Wolfram web site a list of v.6 drawbacks, bugs, problems... Nothing! Mathematica 6.0 is just perfect... 4. BTW, above and beyond my criticism, I honestly believe Wolfram should get the Field Medal (the Nobel analogue for Mathematicians) for inventing the Mathematica software. [alert admin]

FoneLink 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Scanning would not terminate

I am trying the 1.1.3 Demo version. The process of scanning the device and making backups does not terminate. The synchronization simply hangs up at the stage of the collecting contacts. The manual does say the process may take some time..., but it is almost two hours now!..., and forever seems closer then ever... My list of contact is relatively slim, and only a few pictures are stored, so it is not my phone to blame. Partial info has definitely passed. The phone seems to be synchronizing, but the progress bar in the application screen is totally gray (not even one piece of blue). K800i <-> PowerPC G4 via Bluetooth. [alert admin]

I think it's the installer

"Then, I ran disk repair, and in two minutes, everything was fine, and I'm now booted up." You have definitely justified your username. Two minutes? I wish... Not with Leopard where disk repair takes forever (a documented bug). At any rate, glad everything is eventually ok. Must admit: Can't live without my Little Snitch.

K800i - scanning still does NOT terminated

The problem persists! FoneLink cannot pass the contact synchronization stage (all other synchronizations are presumably OK). In turn, an ATTRACTIVE piece of software gets momentarily USELESS, waiting for this annoying bug to get fixed. Purchase delayed respectively. * BTW 1 - I do have the latest firmware. Checked! * BTW 2- I always got a fast reply (but not necessarily helpful) from the support team! They are really trying their best. I am sure they will…

Scanning finally terminated

I may have responded too fast. But if the in initial scanning process really takes almost two hours (which is absurd by all standards) the developer should say it clearly. Looks like a nice application. Review (hopefully) soon.

Still does not work...

Hi Jan, Nothing to do with upgrading Nokia 6280's firmware. Unfortunately, following your advice, I have learnt it the hard way. I worked so hard after afterwords to re-construct my mobile phone's references, lists, pics, sounds, but when all the dust has settled down, I still cannot send SMS via Nova Media's plug-in...
