Apple TV 2.2 (Mac OS X)
finally - music video playlists, and HD shows, Genius ![]()

AppleTV 2.0 was a big step forward, but it *still* didn't allow Music Video playlists. This is something the iPod can do with ease. Now, under the guise of the AppleTV 2.2 update which provides HD TV shows and Genius support, we have a whole lot of other features, including video playlists! This version downloaded quickly and updated smoothly - finally, my AppleTV is complete. [alert admin]

Speed Download 5.0 (Mac OS X)
awesome software, great responsive support - did what's right in the end for MacHeist ![]()

This was one of those packages that I'd never tried, but was part of my MacHeist II bundle. Having installed and used it, I honestly can say it's now a "must-have" in managing my downloads. The developer has always been very responsive to questions as well. Lots of the feedback on here has unfortunately been negative - not about the product - but about the mis-step in bundling SpeedDownload 4 as part of MacHeist, and then releasing a paid upgrade a week later. I'm happy to say that in the end, YazSoft did what's right - and offered this as a free update for MacHeist II customers. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and a complete lack of understanding on how the market works. But all is resolved now. [alert admin]

Apple TV 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Nice update, but still can't use Video playlists ![]()

Don't get me wrong - the update is a big step forward, and I love the fact that it's free for those of us who invested early. But unfortunately, it doesn't change the existing behavior for Videos. If you create a Video Playlist, you can only play one video at a time from the list. If you create a playlist that includes both music and videos, then AppleTV will skip over the Video content. Geez - this is something we can do quite easily in iTunes and an iPod. And lots of people have been asking for this to be fixed. Sigh... [alert admin]

Apple keyboard update 1.1 (Mac OS X)
works fine with my G5 and aluminum keyboard ![]()

Works perfectly for me on my Dual G5 with the new aluminum keyboard. By default, the new key mappings are enabled. There are some interesting hidden shortcuts: option-F1 or option-F2 brings up the monitors control panel, option-F3 brings up Expose control panel, option-F10, option-F11, or option-F12 brings up the Sound control panel. Even works well with HotApp! [alert admin]

Glad to see that Garmin is coming around with basic Mac support! Worked well with my nuvi 360, although the trick is to connect the nuvi first, wait until it mounts on the desktop, and THEN launch the Web Updater. Found a new update that hadn't been seen on my work Windows PC! [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.0 (Mac OS X)
OMG - includes 5G firmware updater - gapless playback ![]()

Wow - talk about a big bang of a release. Streamlined and cleaned-up interface, detailed error reporting, bi-directional Sync of purchased music, download manager, album art browser, detailed iPod info. But for me, with a large collection of dance compilations, the biggest change is gapless playback. And, iTunes 7 now includes the iPod firmware updater as part of the iPod pane. It immediately recognized that my 5G (60gb) iPod needed the 1.2 firmware udpate, downloaded, updated, and restarted my iPod. Now I get gapless playback across tracks (after going through my library and explicitly setting "Part of a Gapless Album" for each track/album. [alert admin]

I've used zsCompare for over a year now and it's been very stable and functional. The latest Lite version 3.x offers many new features, and was a free upgrade. Support is outstanding - very quick turnaround even on weekends. It doesn't get any better than this. [alert admin]

BitTorrent 4.4.0 (Mac OS X)
Very slow downloads, very few seeds found. In one instance, this version found zero seeds, while Transmission located 15 peers. I'm switching to Transmission, which not only works, but has a nicer user interface. [alert admin]

Firefox 1.5.0.1 (Mac OS X)
includes JavaEmbeddingPlugin 0.9.5+b
This release now includes the latest release of the JavaEmbeddingPlugin 0.9.5+b and the corresponding MRJPlugin 0.9.5+b. The problem is that these plug-ins are causing Java incompatibilities for me, and I suspect others on this forum. The older release of Firefox 1.0.7 didn't include these plug-ins. To remove the plug-ins, right(control)-click on the FireFox 1.5.0.1 application, "Show Package Contents". Remove the following two files from the /Contents/MacOS/plugins/: JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle MRJPlugin.bundle [alert admin]

Version 7.5.0 was released last week; offers improved support for Leopard, support for case-sensitive file systems, moves support files to Application Support directory, and includes an uninstaller. http://images.harmonyremote.com/EasyZapper/Downloads/releases/logitech/7.5.0/LogitechHarmonyRemoteSoftware7.5.0-OSX.dmg

Error: Unable to open "DC3 UserKey" file. Error -999 (unknown function)
also have the same problem with the demo - it doesn't work on 3 different systems. I emailed SHFF and they claimed that there were "some" people having this problem and they would correct it, but no fix yet in the demo.

I'm not sure what the problem is here, but I didn't have it. I purchased my license for MacPilot from MacZot back in September 2006. With this new 2.5 version, on first launch it warned me that my Trial period had expired, and then prompted me to enter my registration email and code. I entered the same code from September 2006 and it successfully activated. Perhaps there's a problem with your firewall settings?

Read the installation requirements - this requires a Core 2 Duo not a Core Duo processor.

EuroPack - where can I download updater?
If you're a registered user, you should contact TalkingPanda directly through the Support form on their web page. I did this and received a link for the download that is compatible with the new 5.5G iPods (and updated firmware v1.2 for 5G).

For SWF playback... use this app
unfortunately VLC has problems playing back FLV files - it always starts with a series of warnings "access_file: seeking to early..." and you can't scrub back or forward in the file. If you ignore the warnings, and don't want to fast forward or rewind VLC is ok for FLV files

I'm having the same problem. The online notes (if you "Upgrade") claim that full playback is available in the free version. But not for me - only plays 5 seconds then stops and says a Pro license is needed.

Actually, I just checked, and it doesn't show up for me either, and I'm using the PowerPC-only version.
