Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Game is good, but performance is awful ![]()

Like some other people said, I really wanted to like this game. I love Tony Hawk 2. In general, this game has a much better feature set than earlier Tony Hawk versions, especially the open ended levels and interaction based goals. The C-O-M-B-O can be very tricky and interesting.
Unfortunately, this version (at least the demo), has terrible performance on my Mac (BigAl 1 Ghz, with 64 MB card). Even setting all the options to the minimum, bumping the resolution to 640 x 480, and turning off full-screen antialiasing, etc., the performance is very choppy. Such a low framerate makes this game almost impossible to play. You just can't nail a landing if you aren't seeing where you are in the rotation.
I'm very disappointed with this game. I definitely would've purchased it if it worked well on my system. [alert admin]

Macromedia Contribute 2.0.2054 (Mac OS X)
Slow, but good for some niches ![]()

Contribute is a pretty nice program, but it is incredibly slow on a 1 GHz powerbook with 1 GB Ram. It looks as though it was written in Flash (has the same widgets as the macromedia site). The registration process on the Macromedia site to get the download was also cumbersome.
Anyway, this program is nice way to give a non power user WYSIWYG access to a website. You can also use Contribute to do access management and version control, which is very helpful if you have multiple contributors to a site with only one real server account.
Pros: Easy to use, not too expensive, SFTP support, version management
Cons: Slow, doesn't seem to support embedded PHP scripting

Snapz Pro X 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)
great program. It's best features are that it lets you capture menus and other GUI objects, save in multiple formats (gif, png, pdf, jpg, tiff, etc), and output to multiple locations, inluding files, the clipboard and the printer. My favorite tip is print web coupons directly just using Snapz. [alert admin]

Pocket Tanks 1.00b (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
this game would be as good as Dome Wars was for me in college, but I was dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but it's not quite there yet. The interface is pretty clunky and not mac like (Command Q, no windowed mode, etc). It would be nice to have more than two players as well as different AI's for the computer players. Of course multiplayer over the network would be good as well. I'd really like to be able to destroy the other tank rather than just getting points for hitting it. If you haven't seen Dome Wars, fire up Classic and try it out. [alert admin]

Xproof 1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
really great app for designers who want to get an idea of how something will look on a PC monitor or mac CRT monitor (if you are on a laptop). It also shows you approximately what something looks like for people with various forms of color blindness. Another feature is a nice color sampler so you can figure out just what color anything on the screen is. [alert admin]

FirstClass Client X 7.1 (Mac OS X)
but is much better than the 6 beta. They at least fixed the scroll whell support (used to scroll a whole page at a time). It doesn't import your old custom dictionary so you need to readd all the spell checking exemptions. tmckenna, HTML email is displayed with some of the formatting, but I believe your server admin has to enable it to do so. They also offer an attachment of the unaltered HTML. One last thing to note is that FirstClass started on the Mac and their "port" is from OS 9 more than Windows. Yes, it's not the best mac app and definately not the best X version, but it's pretty good if you need to use FirstClass for work. [alert admin]

SmallScreenX 2.2 (Mac OS X)
awesome. I was a huge fan of the original Small Screen and was really missing it in OS X. I even got the original source code and was going to make an OS X version until I realized that I didn't know how to program in Pascal nor in OS X. :-) This program is invaluable if you develop web pages and it does exactly as promised. OmniOutliner 2.2 beta 1 (Mac OS X)
a great and fairly cheap way of organizing your thoughts. I bought it mostly to keep track of to do lists, software bugs, and plan out documentation, but it has loads of other great features I'm just learning about. Solid and intuitive. [alert admin]

Classic Spy 2.0 (Mac OS X)
what it's supposed to and very elegantly at that. Also, it's free. [alert admin]

PTHPasteboard 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Since CopyPaste on OS X is so bad, I use PTH Pasteboard for all my clipboard history needs. The service doesn't work in BBEdit, but hitting control-v does. Very elegant. It's in the menu bar and not the dock so it isn't as annoying as the competition. With the new command key shortcuts, they could probably have an option to remove the menu bar icon, but I don't mind it. [alert admin]

MEncoder doesn't escape spaces in path names. That causes the problem that you mention rearding -oac. After choosing a destination path, add a backslash (\) before each space and it should work correctly. HTH.
