MailCall 2.2 (Mac OS X)
Beware, it will wipe your current settings!
Well, after my enthusiastic post, I must say it is not a "good work" after all. After replacing the app itself and launching it I discovered that not only MC did not take over my registration info, but it also wiped the current preferences file, removing all entries! This is certainly not a smart thing. Thankfully I backup my Mac every day, so I was able to restore version 2.1 and all prefs and plists to get back to where I was before. But if you have not backed up, be careful and make a copy of the preferences files before you upgrade. Thumbs down, I am afraid! Paolo [alert admin]

MailCall 2.2 (Mac OS X)
Gosh, I have been using this since 2001 and rely on it on a daily basis. It's great to see that Mike is still maintaining it and developing it. The interface is minimal and functional. Kepp up the good work. Paolo [alert admin]

Birthday Bar 0.3 (Mac OS X)
Interesting little utility, but for me it is not useful, as it does not seem to respect the system's locale. I don't want US date format, yet I cannot seem to find any way to change it back to European format. Any idea? Paolo [alert admin]

Shiira 2.0b2 (Mac OS X)
This looks good and fast, but I have found it rather unstable (unlike version 1.x). For example, trying to display the General preferences panel always crashes the app :-( [alert admin]

Portable iCal r1.3 (Mac OS X)
Hi developers. How do you reconcile the following two statements you made: 1) You can try and download for free AND 2) The download will not be sent for less than minimum donation required. Make up your mind, is it free or not? [alert admin]

OmniWeb 5.5 beta 1 (Mac OS X)
I have been trying to disable the cascading of windows by following the examples in the help. I have created a Defaults.plist file placed in the right place, with the following in it: { OAPreferenceController = { OWHiddenPreferences = { category = Advanced; defaultsDictionary = { OAWindowCascadeDisabled = 1; }; }; }; } However, upon launching the browser, the windows still do not stack exactly one on top of the other, as I would like them to do. Anyone has had any success with this? [alert admin]

DesktopCalendar 0.8 beta 1 (Mac OS X)
How do I move the calendar? A tool tip appears telling me "Choose 'Move Windows' menu to move", but no such menu seems to exist anywhere. [alert admin]

LinkMenu 1.2 (Mac OS X)
I can imagine it must always be hard to market a piece of software when it does a similar job as another, free, utility. I personally have been using URLWell for many months and find it unobtrusive and very finctional. LinkMenu, on the other hand, has quirks that made me delete it after only a few minutes and could not recommend it. Moreover, I don't paricularly appreciate it when developers tell me "Note : this is the last version I will release unless I start getting purchases". Well, tough, being coercive in this way is definitely counterproductive, sorry. Paolo [alert admin]

Gestix 3.0 Light (Mac OS X)
I have not tried this, but considering that the company producing it saw fit to spam numerous Usenet groups with their announcement, I would steer clear of them, as they obviously have no knowledge of good Net practices. Sad, how, over the years, incompetent newbies have been allowed to take over the good old rules of Cyberspace :-( [alert admin]

iCalViewer 2.0.5 (Mac OS X)
Initially I was sceptical about this idea, but as soon as I had all my events and to-dos displaying dynamically as backdrop on my desktop, I realised how useful this can be. There is no way I am missing or forgetting anything. And there's no need to keep iCal open, as it is a memory hog anyway, I only use it to set the events and forget about it. Great idea, good price. Excellent! [alert admin]

> apart from the new UI and new plottable items, there don't > appear to be that many new features Interesting, I see lots of new capabilities: display and forecast of rainfall, temperature, wind speed/direction/, pressure, ozone, radar precititation, customizable elements, such as the ISS plots, aurora activity, etc. To me (and I guess to many others), these are "that many features". Why do you expect an upgrade to run necessarily faster than a previous version? You have to consider feature set, development environment, etc., in order to do a proper comparison. This is a completely new beast from version 2. Paolo

I have used this for years, never a problem or a slowdown. It's been installed on several different Macs, always with no glitch whatsoever.

You'll be surprised how many of us have that weird obsession -- especially when we own thousands of CDs. For us, software such as this makes it fun to select the recordings for each evening's listening session.

What a nonsensical comment. From what you write you obviously don't own "thousands of CDs", or perhaps you do have thousands of the same one, or you have a phenomenal memory, since you do not even remotely recognise that having a cataloging application might be useful for, yes, cataloging purposes. I personally own thousands of CDs and also have them on shelves like you do. However, since I have so many that I cannot ever recall…
