OnyX 2.1b1 (Mac OS X)

"404 - Page not found"

No luck with either the VT download link or the one on the developer's website. [alert admin]

Saft 12.0.0 Public Beta 2 (Mac OS X)

There is a new 64-bit beta, but...

... it has at least one major bug. When I tried to add a rule to the list of blocked URLs, Safari immediately crashed. And that was in 84-bit mode, which is supposed to be more stable. If you want to try it, here's the link: <http://haoli.dnsalias.com/Saft/Download/index.html> [alert admin]

USB Overdrive 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Great to have this

Thanks to the developer, I can now switch to running Snow Leopard in 64-bit mode full time. Got back all the functionality of my 5-button Targus bluetooth mouse. That was the last significant "problem" I had with 64-bit mode, so bye-bye to 32-bit. [alert admin]

Thoth 1.8.4 (Mac OS X)

Not much progress...

... since the developer first released Thoth 1.8.4 more than a year ago. That's right, not even a point upgrade in more than a year. And still no Universal Binary. I'm a registered user who used to recommend Thoth, but the developer doesn't seem to care about it any more. So paying for this app at this time just doesn't strike me as a smart use of funds. The freeware MT-Newswatcher is almost as good as Thoth, and the shareware app Unison has left it in the dust. [alert admin]

iAntiVirus Free Edition 1.35 (Mac OS X)

CPU Hog

With the Protect My Mac feature enabled, iAntiVirus sucks up huge amounts of CPU resources whenever I'm downloading, slowing down my MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo. But ClamXav, guarding against the much huger list of Windoze viruses, does not cause a performance hit when used in the identical circumstances. And MacScan does appear to offer an equivalent level of protection. So I'll stick with ClamXav and MacScan, and keep my MBP from bogging down. [alert admin]

Adobe Media Player 1.7 (Mac OS X)

How do I get 1.7?

I go to the linked web page, click on "Launch Now" (the ONLY option offered), then watch as my existing AMP launches and does NOTHING. I guess Adobe wants to protect us from their latest POS. ;) [alert admin]

Right Zoom 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Hilarious!

This was created by some recent switcher from Windoze, who can't stand that the Mac OS does things differently. It curses the Mac OS with those hideous full-screen windows that waste vast amounts of screen space for no good reason. And listen to this from the instructions: "Installation: copy the program to your Programs directory and run it." My PROGRAMS DIRECTORY?!? [alert admin]

The Thing That Would Not Die!

Somebody please put AOL out of its misery. I mean yeah, I used it... for about 6 months back in 1996! ;-p [alert admin]

Limited Usability

Glims has had a 64-bit beta version out for a while now: <http://www.rapidfind.org/upload/showthread.php?p=1007909> I've been happily using it since it was released.

Opens just fine...

No, nitwit, the comments are not wrong. They are accurate descriptions of what is happening on many machines, including mine. For some reason, you were able to download a mountable image. Are you running Leopard? I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.1, and the disk image will NOT mount after repeated attempts with multiple programs.

It's a consiracy I tell ya.

Actually, 5-pointed stars are more common than 6-pointed for badges. And 7-pointed stars are also used.

Yep

Anybody who thinks Dashboard is the main reason to get (or not get) Tiger has obviously never actually used Tiger. ;)

I don't see any improvement

You must have set something wrong in the prefs. It integrates perfectly with Safari on my machine (eMac, 10.3.8). Automatically launches & post-processes downloads, and yes, the contextual menu item is there and it works.
