FileZilla 3.2.5-rc1 (Mac OS X)

Perhaps the ugliest but most amazing FTP app out there.

Filezilla's only problem is that it's interface is ugly, poor and sometimes quite difficult. Perhaps to win95-like. Yet, under that interface there is an application that is rock solid and very feature rich, for free! If you can live with the ugly interface, then Filezilla is the tool you should use when doing FTP, SFTP or whatever file transfer option you're doing. It's fast, reliable and works great with batches of processes and arcane settings. As an example it's the only tool I found that can batch process file permissions on subfolders and files separately or not, a life saver for me when a few thousands folders had their permissions corrupted in my server... So, though it's ugly, it's free, it can do everything any other FTP apps can (an then some more) and it's stable like a rock. [alert admin]

Apple MacBook Pro EFI Firmware 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Better sound, at least.

Well, I'd surely would like to know what changed... The fact is that I had several problems with "whining" coming out from my headphone jack after some random system sound (beep, adium message, etc) that would go off with another sound, and back on, and off, and so on... Seemed quiet but in high pich. It pissed me off, specially when I had the system connected to my stereo (perhaps I still have a decent hearing). But now it´s gone... Well, not gone, but has really become quieter (almost inexistent)... After the update, to do the same as before I *really* need to crank the volume up on my mac and amplifier (to a level were the amplifier also produces noise). Even if that was just it, I´m happy! Very happy! [alert admin]

Apple MacBook/Pro Keyboard Firmware 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Solved!

It solved my "poor feedback" problem. Finally my MB Pro keyboard types what I want it to type without any "first letter" glitches. No problems here with the install as well. Excellent. [alert admin]

Microsoft Messenger 6.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Better...

Ok, I *have* to be fair. This version has some new long, long, long awaited features (custom emoticons, iTunes integration and personal messages!) but it still lacks some basic features such as webcam support. There is one thing great, though. It uses a little less CPU and memory than AMSN or Mercury (the only two alternatives to MSN Messenger with more features than this version). I'll give it 3 stars for the effort, but IMHO the lack of webcam support still kills this app most of the time. As a clear message to Microsoft: you need to build Webcam functionality in "V.6.5" of MSN Messenger, c'mon! Until then, this app is still not recommendable (you'll have better luck with AMSN). Microsoft Messenger 5.0.0 (Mac OS X)

MSN Messenger is...

... quite good, if it had been released THREE YEARS AGO!!! I mean, the app sure is nice, works well and is very Mac-like. But feature-wise, it sucks. And when compared to Windows MSN Messenger 7, Mac Messenger 5 is utter crap. No webcam or even audio support. (why?! Mercury and AMSN support it, or will support it, so don't give me the "strage unportable codecs" bullshit). No custom smileys. No winks. ...and the list of general PC MSN Messenger features that are NOT in this application goes on... Honestly, it's a good effort by the Mac BU at Microsoft, but it's not good enough. After so much time, we, Mac users, were expecting from Microsoft at least a Mac Messenger version as good as the latest PC Messenger version. I just hope the Mac BU listens to the user complains in the next release of MSN Messenger. Again, as I said, it's nice, but this app is 3 years late. *Thanks!* I give 2 stars for the effort. AirPort Radar 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Nice and Small

Does what it needs to do and it's small enough so it can fit my 1024x768 iBook display. I do like the auto resize feature. [alert admin]

SANE scanner frontend 1.0 (Mac OS X)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I've been living frustrated with my UMAX 2200 USB Scanner since MacOSX came out, and that bastard has been the SOLE reason I had to mantain OS9 on my iMac! Thank you so much for giving SANE an interface... Now I don't need to buy Silverfast, or boot to OS9 anymore!!! :) [alert admin]

Mac Messenger 3.0b1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I'ts a nice simple MSN client...

Well, this is a very nice app... Misses some GUI candy, yes, but it works nicely... Minus a star for not understanding latin characters like à or ê, and so on... BTW, it consumes quite less CPU and memory, when idle, than the official MSN Messenger, wich make this app a must-have if you keep your MSN open for long periods of time, have little system resoures and/or want to do something else while you're on MSN... It seems to miss some features of the official version, like files and mail reports but it works well if you only want to chat... [alert admin]

iVisit 3.0.2X (Mac OS X)

Great! And now it sounds normal...

Well it sure has improved! Finally the sound is acceptable and finally I can speak with my windows friends with some quality. 5 stars for being the only program that really allows me to use my iSight to chat with my windows friends (the big majority of my "webcam buddies")... iVisit it might not be as good as iChat, in terms of image and sound quality, but it works with windows and mac, which is a HUGE advantage. My thanks to the developers, and I hope they keep improving this great cross-platform work! [alert admin]

mlMac 0.6 (Mac OS X)

Perhaps the best P2P app for Mac

I've tried a lot of P2P apps (Limewire, Aquisition, etc.) and mlMac is the best. Not only it's the best app to connect to edonkey, but it also connects to kazaa and bitTorrent... More networks would be great, but right now, it meets my needs. Sure, gnutella is great (aquisition is a very good gnutella client) but I cant get that many files from it (specially non-american or rare music files). With mlMac I can, and that's why I like this app. Besides, it's clean, does the job well, really resumes downloads and it seems quite stable although i've had some quits and crashes (well it's not finished...) This is app that still needs to evolve a lot (sharing, more networks, stability, etc.), but it might be the next best thing for P2P for Mac since Napster went down... [alert admin]
