Compression Master 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Wanted to try this product because it seems to be the only one out there that will convert WMV3 to anything else. Unfortunately, if you set in and out points in the WMV file, although the MPEG2 video is encoded properly (and appears to look rather decent BTW), the audio does not encode the correct segment. If you encode the whole movie to MPEG2 beginning to end it seems to work OK. Which is a shame because I wanted to create several subsegments of the movie using the built-in fades, and then combine them with Streamclip. I tried some other audio-only formats, but the result was the same. Also tried to go from WMV3 to DV for import in FCP, but the video always lost some rows off the bottom, whether using Letterbox or Distort. Also, the DV audio was not complete, but if encoded as a seperate run (audio only) it seemed to work. For this project, I couldn't afford to lose the bottom rows, so no go there. My last try was to transcode to MPEG4 and import to FCP. That seemed to work, but rendering MPEG4 to work with in FCP was so painfully slow that I gave it up. Dang. [alert admin]

Disk Recall 2.0b615 (Mac OS X)
Unfortunately, I get a crash when I try to import my old catalog file. If I whittle it all the way down to one entry, it does work. I thought I might be able to use the "back door" by doing a clipboard copy from the old version and paste into the new one, but that's a no go as well. Waiting for the next build... [alert admin]

The direct download link worked on on 5/18, even thought the note said it would not. Maybe it was a glitch. Anyway, product worked as advertised. [alert admin]

httpmail plugin 1.5 (Mac OS X)
notice that I first mentioned freeware projects on sourceforge for those averse to paying for shareware. Of course, I did assume that those posting here about Yahoo were looking to actually solve a problem, rather than whine aimlessly. httpMail has its own problems, i.e. freeware but not open source (pray that the author is motivated to fix it when it breaks, and it will), it only works with mail.app, etc. Excuse me for pointing out alternatives. who want Yahoo access, check sourceforge for a couple of freeware projects that will do it. There's also a shareware app that will do Yahoo here:

I don't know where you are getting that "company refused to fix" stuff. I have a message in my Inbox directly from the company that explains how the problem is with REALbasic, not with this app. The workaround if you need to have extended uptimes is to use the PPC version, which does not have the leak. But I guess you would rather rant then ask them...

I still have QuickTime 7.0.1 loaded, and I get the same crash on quit problem I had under 0.8.6.b. I did run the Delete_Preferences script just to be sure, but it did not help.

So you don't know how to add an application as a Startup Item for your account in the System Preferences? Wow. I'll bet you could have learned about it in the Help faster than the time it took you to write this rant. Oh right, I forgot, the Help doesn't startup automatically for you either...

Dude, get over it. That's the way VersionTracker works. If he has a new build every day, it gets posted here. It's the whole point of having a site named "version tracker".

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. There was an issue with the LimeWire installer that would change the permissions on some of your directories, but that was corrected many versions ago. Even if you had the problem, all you had to do was run a permissions repair, or use the Get Info window to set them back. LimeWire doesn't "rewrite" your OS, for crying out loud !
