DbVisualizer 4.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Installer not working for me. Anyone else?
Great looking database tool with glowing reviews. Unfortunately, I can't get it to install.
I've tried installing both v4.0.4 and v4.1 on three separate Macs (OSX 10.2.8 with all Security Updates) first with Java Framework v1.3.1 and then upgrading to v1.4.1 and kept getting the following error dialog box:
- Installer UI Mode Error:
Installer User Interface Mode Not Supported
Unable to load and to prepare the installer in GUI mode.
- Fatal Application Error:
This Application has Unexpectedly Quit
Invocation of this Java Application has caused an InvocationTargetException. This application will now exit. (LAX)
java.lang.NullPointerException locations.I've tried repairing permissions and re-prebinding with no change in results.
I could really use this tool on a current project, so don't make me go to a Windoze box! Please! ;) [alert admin]

CSSEdit 1.6.2 (Mac OS X)
What are the trial limitations?
I haven't been able to find any information (either in the download or the MacRabbit website) on whether it's full-featured-but-time-limited or feature-limited. [alert admin]

BBEdit 7.1.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
According to the 7.1.2 Release Notes...
Has anyone experienced the following bug apparently fixed in 7.1.2?
- "Fixed a bug in which trying to Command-drag a window behind a moveable modal dialog would result in the dragged window moving to France."
What the —?

Netscape X 7.1 (Mac OS X)
Based on Mozilla 1.4 according to Mozilla.org
Why bother with this branded adware version when the open source from Mozilla.org is a much less intrusive experience? I'm downloading it only to keep AOL from dumping the Mozilla project and to do comparative browser testing of my web projects.
An editorial note about being based on Mozilla 1.4 should be added to the description since the question has been asked so-o-o many times in so-o-o many forums.

Good effort, but not quite there. ![]()

I prefer visualizers that are smoother and more organic, and not as jittery or jumpy. Also, rather than a stylized inverted EQ display, the animation effect should actually resembled the Matrix “green rain”— something along the lines of the OS9 Matrix Screensaver or the OSX Red Pill screensaver comes to mind. I’m not replacing my default visualizer yet, but I think turning the Matrix “green rain” into a visualizer is a great idea, and I hope it gets developed further. [alert admin]

Windows Media Player X 7.1.3 (Mac OS X)
WiMP Classic plays more codecs than WiMP OSX!
I recently installed OSX.2.6 over OS9.2.2 and needed WiMP OSX for some of the local news sites/streams I frequent. To my surprise, as I tried to play streams in OSX that played in OS9, I kept getting WiMPy messages about not having the proper codec to play the stream. Apparently, WiMP Classic (v.7.1.2) plays more file and stream codecs/formats than WiMP OSX (v.7.1.3)! Neither have been updated in over 15 months which explains why neither can play any WM9 format files. Doesn't look like MS wants to share this one at all (except to money hungry media corporations who want a closed, proprietary system to limit how their consumers can use their media). [alert admin]

GraphicConverter 4.2.1 (Mac OS 9)
needs mirrors/alternate download sites! Everytime there's an update, I have to wait at least 48 hours before getting through to download! If that's not an indication of truly great shareware, I don't know what is! [alert admin]

HP LaserJet driver 1.10 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
installer is dated Sept. 13, 2001 12PM and it's the same size as all the "updates" since then. Is it HP's ftp server or is it just not an update? Anyone know? [alert admin]

EnterNet 1.22 (Mac OS 9)
my eval copy - Anyone know why v1.22 got pulled? (BTW, v1.21 was released in May, not January.) JSPECTRE - some of us MacOS 9.x users have no choice with our DSL providers that restrict us to their rental hardware and their Branded versions of EnterNet. I'll move to OS X and it's built in PPPoE client when I can afford to upgrade my OS 9 apps. [alert admin]
