NP Grade 2.1.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I will answer…

your suggestions in order. First, that is a very good suggestion (entering the first and last day of the school year). Expect to see it in the next version along with many other features. Next, the first and last names for students sounds like a good idea, as it would allow greater customization of sorting. This might be in the next version (we cannot say for sure because the list of features to be added has grown quite large), or it might be in the version after. However, it will for sure be implemented in the near future. The attendance drawing issue is a bug and will be resolved for the next release (which should be out within a week or two, but no promises because, as stated above, the new features list has grown large). If you wish to reserve your rating, then you should wait until version 2.2 or 2.2.1 (the next two planned versions). [alert admin]

NP Grade 2.1.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

mr.ed, this is…

a Product Suggestion! Like we told you before, these belong in an e-mail to us. And if you looked in the menu (the Grade menu), you'd find all of the keyboard shortcuts to create new students and assignments, just like any other Macintosh program. Thank for you pointing out that we forgot a "Select All" button. That will be added to our now very large list of new features to add to NP Grade. So, now that you have given us your rating, if you have suggestions for us (which, btw, we always appreciate), you can either e-mail them to us at npgrade@northsoftproductions.com or you can post them here, WITHOUT a rating, okay? That's what the "n/a" rating button is for. [alert admin]

WorkStrip X 10.0b2 (Mac OS X)

Well, it's a…

good start but it is very far from complete. For one, it is very jerky. For example, when rolling over icons in the strip they don't smoothly magnify like with the dock. It just becomes big. Another problem is the lack of minimizing windows. That is a big problem. You also loose Command-Tab abilities for switching programs! Another, HUGE problem is that you cannot move items around. They are stuck where they are. It also doesn't seem to be able to have more than 3 hierarchical menus at a time when using the menus that come from the items. There was only one thing I liked about it, and that was the picture preview feature. That was really cool. The Dock would be a lot better if it had that. But, I'd have to say I am sticking with the Dock until this program can provide ALL the features of the Dock, plus more. 2 stars for coming up with the idea, and for having a nice start on it. Just put some more work into it. This program has a lot of potential. [alert admin]

All of Microsoft's…

software sucks. I give it a 1 because IE loves to crash, and it loves to pretend like I am not connected to the internet (even though I have a cable modem). It also loves to hang with the spinning rainbow cursor of death after a popup window comes up (this only happens sometimes). I stick with Mozilla and OmniWeb. Even though they are more limited, they are certainly better browsers, written by people who actually care who uses it. [alert admin]

Custom Icon 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Very useful plugin.…

I have been looking for a way to access the system icons from within REALBasic, and this is the key. Very easy to use. Getting system icons requires no code (it is in a drop-down menu in the Properties palette). Very nice. [alert admin]

Carracho 1.0b5 (Mac OS 9)

This is the…

WORST release I have ever seen. All of the previous versions worked fine. This one crashes whenever I try to upload or download (like Zack on Mac said). I am running Mac OS X 10.1.4. It has never not crashed since I upgraded, and I can't go back to beta 5 because none of the servers support it, and I'd have to set my clock back every time I would want to use it! I hope they release another beta that actually works. One more thing, it doesn't keep any of the preferences you entered in any previous version when you upgrade. I guess I am out of the running with Carracho for a while (or until they release a new version). [alert admin]

MindVision Installer VISE 7.4.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Sure, it sucks…

that it is still a Classic app, but it makes Carbon installers. I wouldn't use anything. I haven't come accross any bugs, and it has never crashed for me. I also really like its debugging features. Plus, this is the only installer I have found that is free for shareware developers. All of the other ones cost a lot of money that I don't have. [alert admin]

FutureBASIC^3 6.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I personally hate…

REALBasic. It has completely turned me off to the BASIC language. I am going to learn C++ and the Carbon API for all of my other programs. Do you think that FurtureBASIC could revive my, um, use of BASIC? [alert admin]

Adobe LiveMotion 2.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

LiveMotion is awesome!…

I've created movies and interactions with LM in 10 minutes that would have taken many hours in the Flash 5 IDE. LM has a MUCH cleaner inerface that is much more user friendly. Bravo! [alert admin]
