Demonstar 1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Mars and Deimos Rising may have slightly higher production values, but their gameplay just doesn't measure up. Demonstar, on the other hand, gets the insane bullet dodging mayhem right. Its a shame this game isn't as well-known about the mac shareware scerne. [alert admin]

Meteor Storm 1.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
actually not related to Zsculpt and Ambrosia does, in fact, charge for their version of Maelstrom (Just search for it on ambrosiasw.com - Doh!). The free version is from a Linux open source guy they gave the source to. [alert admin]

first played this game several years ago and I was struck by the cool particle effects and glowing sprites. The gameplay is fun, and the game's interface feels pretty polished. The graphics and music are actually pretty good, and I think that they should charge whatever they want for it. Its sad when people get on a site like this and harshly criticize smaller developers with cool products like Meteor Storm. Ambrosia is still charging $15 for Maelstrom and its graphics haven't changed in nearly 10 years. Why don't you hassle them? Or better yet, how about you contribute to the Mac gaming scene and write your own game. [alert admin]
