UNO 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Didn't like it

One of my main nagging points about the brushed metal is that it makes it difficult to see which window is active without thinking about it. The difference is simply to subtle between active and inactive windows. The UNO interface has the same problem, so if you're looking for replacements for brushed metal for that reason, this is not for you. [alert admin]

VokabelTrainer 0.7 (Mac OS X)

nice

It's a nice little app. I was working on a similar one myself, but got to ambitious with too little time. There's not any dictionaries packages because there would be copyright issues I guess. But there's some nice free dictionaries on the web, for example <http://freedict.org/>, albeit in a different format. However, you might not want to use a preexisting dictionary, as it contains too many words. More likely you'll try to train in batches of maybe 100 or less words. [alert admin]

ATI Radeon 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Deletes preference panes

This update seems to have completely deleted my /Library/PreferencePanes directory. Now I have to go find that software again :/ Can you say "oops!". [alert admin]

Neverwinter Nights 1.32 (Mac OS X)

Not buying

I would've bought this, if it'd come with the level creator. As it doesn't, I won't. Also, this insistance on 60Hz is hurting my eyes. [alert admin]

IBM XL C/C++ 6.0 (Mac OS X)

Great!

This is great news. gcc is very nice and all, but it doesn't produce that fast code. IBM's compiler is highly optimised for the ppc. This will have a huge speed impact on some applications. Let's hope Metrowerks is seeing competition here and puts some effort on faster code too (haven't tried there latest versions so perhaps they already have). [alert admin]

Unstoppable Progress 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Repeat after me

BinHex is obsolete! BinHex is obsolete! BinHex is obsolete! BinHex is obsolete! BinHex is obsolete! BinHex is obsolete! Please let it die the peaceful death it deserves, except possibly in usenet posts. Cool little thing though. [alert admin]

iRoster 1.0b5 (Mac OS X)

Pretty nice. How…

about making it able to browse specific domains? So I could add morth.org and then it'll lookup _http._tcp.morth.org and see my web server. Guess it's not part of the Rendez Vous API yet though. [alert admin]

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos 1.0.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

yakkiebah: The problem…

is Warcraft isn't very optimized for OS X, regardless of there appearance at MacWorld sometime long ago. It can't take advantage of multiple cpus either... But it should run nicely in OS 9 for you, it does for me on a G4 yikes with the first Radeon. At least with almost everything turned off and not more than 4 players in the game. [alert admin]

I think the…

problem with the AI is that it moves to close to the moving guards... try disabling that before play (it's just a theory). I think the game is great. A bit slow on my comp but OTOH so are all new games. One thing I do miss however is that in heroes 3 you could double click the morale and luck values and see how the result was achieved.
