usefulness compared to Apple widget?
How more useful is this application compared to the OS X built-in Apple widget? [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.6 (Mac OS X)
Tiger users, make sure you are on 10.4.9 or later
I have software that behaves badly with OS X versions from 10.4.9 and later, so I'm stuck for the moment on OS X 10.4.8. A wonderful subversion if you ask me. I assume iTunes 7.6 most likely won't work under this version as it says 10.4.9. I'm mentioning this as a reminder if you're in a similar situation like mine and also like me used to upgrade iTunes without much thought. I've decided to stay on iTunes 7.4.1 for the moment, because I don't need the possible dread of 7.5, and the 7.4.1 version works nicely for me. When I go to Leopard I'll be starting with iTunes 8 or something. [alert admin]

iTunify 1.7.7 (Mac OS X)
On the Satsumac web page there a erroneus link saying "Some of the code used in iTunify is available as a free download from Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes". The link however is faulty and leads to an error page. While he's being semi-open about it I question the morale to package free scripts and charge for it without the explicit consent of the developer. On the other hand applescripts that are not copyrighted, may be free for the taking legally. But does the laws equal good morale? [alert admin]

BitPump 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I kinda knew that an app named Bit*pump* should be really bad. The Mac platform does NOT need apps looked after badly. Good riddance! [alert admin]

Transmission 1.00 (Mac OS X)
can't seed properly and unable to verify existing since 0.5 at least. ![]()

For any reason when a seed have been stopped once, Transmission starts to download ALL of the torrent once again, even as the whole downloaded material is playable like any 100% d/l'ed files. This also means that older fully downloaded torrents can't be reseeded, as the download starts from the beginning. Ergo, Transmission can seldom check existing files properly. If it happens that a half downloaded torrent has to be removed and added again later, this bug also kicks in. I have one such d/l that have taken me 2 months to download only to 60%. I had to take it offline and start it again. It went back to 0% even as it was the same directory int use that "Bits on Wheels" correctly count to 60% downloaded. This is really really bad and is becoming a showstopper for me. How is it possible that truly serious bugs like these that seem to affect many are left in for years and years? If it was a Java app I would try and fix this problem, but this is unfortunately not possible for me. [alert admin]

My Mix 1.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
I dunno, for something quick if you have no idea to crossplay 2 tracks in free Traktor Beatport, maybe it can be used for something, but as there is no beatmatching and most transitions are very tacky, this is just not worth the money.
Give it away for free as a PR move and write something better is my advice. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.3.2 (Mac OS X)
At least under Tiger one have to run Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later. This means problems for other apps I use and I'm let down by the fact that Apple couldn't tell this upfront with Software update that it was a requirement. [alert admin]

WarFTPD 1.8.2 RC12 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
I couldn't get it to start up the server as a service nor running as an application under XP. Perhaps something involving permissions as a service, but it really should start up as an app. [alert admin]

Pseudo 1.2.3 (Mac OS X)
Does this version work with Tiger?
I sometimes fail to open apps with Pseudo. Nothing happens. Is it because Pseudo 1.2.3 won't work with Tiger or what can the reason be? If so, what can help you run apps as root under Tiger? I'm still on OS X 10.4.5 for specific software requirements reasons. [alert admin]

support sucks (however, PowerMail works fine)
Yes, the support could be a whole lot better. However, to say it's the worst of the worst is just laughable. For many people PowerMail will do a better job than Apple's Mail. The main feature for me is that PowerMail doesn't get in the way of me and my email. It just works very nicely usually, with the occasional quirk a couple of times a year. But all the other contenders have their quirks…

I should have used the menu command recheck existing data
When I used the menucommand "Transfers - > recheck existing data" it read the downloaded files properly and didn't start anew. My bad. Still wish it would ask for it though.

SpamSieve does work very very well
I had one of the problems described and my solution was to tell SpamSieve to except my addresses in the Apple Addressbook. This as the messages that was falsely labeled as good was sent seemingly from myself. I've had very few good messages being wrongly labeled as spam and my accuracy rate since 2004 is now 99.6% correct out of circa 200 000 messages having been filtered. I couldn't be much happier. Well, perhaps 0.4% happier...…

I'd rather have reviews of concept and execution based on the subjectivity of the reviewer rather than being fair and balanced. I can figure out the rest and not one review will prove anything in itself. I think functions and needs for the user that this application can cover could be made more clear.
As it is now I'm looking elsewhere. Much software these days is focused on the wrong stuff like a great display…

Re: I use this app ALL the time. Fantastic!
I agree this is a great application though I only used for recording talk on my powerbook. However in order to grab music from iTunes and turn that AIFF you only have to use iTunes builtin conversion if you have the track saved there.
Of course you may talk about streaming radio, but you didn't make that clear. In that case Audio Hijack could be used, but I'd prefer to save it to the native…

I haven't tried TAO. However, I really think an outliner should be very responsive also on older machines, like 5 years at least. I use OmniOutliner on a Powerbook G4 400mhz and I'm very satisfied with that app for my purposes. I even run stuff like Logic 7on this machine, so it can kick in when it has to. Even if occasional features need horsepower that shouldn't make an app slow all the time. One app…

If the objective is to keep the Windows and Mac interfaces identical, the obvious solution is to let the mac interface dictate what the windows interface should look like, not the other way around. Why? Because Mac users just won't have it and Windows users often have way less objecttions to mac-inspired interfaces. Of 2, why pick the the inferior alternative? Naturally, shortcuts, menu-option placement and similar should not be identical.....

Unfortunately it's time to switch
"very little" software that can install without being an admin? What about all the apps that install with drag and drop? The problem usually isn't that one may have to use an admin account to install, but that some apps demand you run the app logged in as admin in order to work properly. I'm not sure how this app work in this regard.

Anyone troubli'n with 'little snitch' , take a look here.
because it is java_swt that Little Snitch reports requesting connections not Azureus"
And? If you OK connections from java_swt, then Azureus is effectively OK'ed. It works both ways described, but yours was the most complicated. You were the first to post a solution as well as putting focus on the problem, so kudos for that.
