Legality

I'm sorry, but is this even legal? I ask because the YouTube "Terms of Use" says that the use of the website may be for non-commercial use only. This program uses the website for commercial purposes. [alert admin]

RbApp 1.0.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Boy, you know there's something wrong...

...when the developer gives his own programs 5/5 reviews because no one else likes it. For $195 I'd expect the developers to be a little more mature about the way they handle business. (softwaredeveloper has only posted three things on VersionTracker, all of which are 5/5 ratings for Excel Software products) [alert admin]

San Andreas Helper 1.3 (Mac OS X)

RyanAndFriends needs to stop. Seriously.

RyanAndFriends once again releases a program that does the following: 1. Steals information from GameFAQs. 2. Makes it almost impossible to read via terrible formatting. 3. Places it in a tiny, unresizable window with no scrollbar. 4. Doesn't allow you to copy and paste (it's a standard feature in REALbasic for crying out loud!) 5. Uses a copyrighted picture. Plus the program crashes when you click the Update button and incorrectly states that the game is only available for PS2. To anyone remotely interested in this program, just go here and save yourself the headache: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/code/914983.html (Save the web page to your hard drive) [alert admin]

Cheetah3D 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Inexpensive and Powerful

I recently decided I wanted to try making a 3D game, so the first thing I needed to find was a 3D modeling program. After trying a few (very expensive) programs, I stumbled across this one. It's amazing how many useful features there are! Almost everytime I need a specific feature, I can whip out the in-depth documentation and find exactly what I want. When I first started using version 2.1, I was experiencing intermittent crashes using the point slide and scalpel tools. Fortunately the developer was VERY responsive to my problem and sent me a new version which works perfectly! My only complaints are that Cheetah 3D seems to be missing a way to "unwrap" selected polygons (for easier texturing), and any support for bones (although technically it isn't vital for what I'm making). Overall I am VERY satisfied with Cheetah 3D. I use it all the time! [alert admin]

iota-calc 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Bad, bad, bad

I'll break down why this is bad: - Clicking any function button doesn't add parentheses for the functions, even though it requires them. - There's no way to go back a step in the guided tour and there's no way to just pause the tour and still be able to switch steps. - The documentation doesn't cover what the buttons do, what the syntax is for each function, etc, although it gladly spends considerable time teaching programmers what a debugger is... as if we didn't already know. Now there's some screwed up priorities. - It brags about following C/C++ order of predecence, but it doesn't do much else in the way of being like C++. Want to test (true || false)? Too bad. How about (!false)? Too bad! The evaluations are a strange mixture of REALbasic and C/C++. - It doesn't save its preferences. I hope you like the default colors for everything. - Why is "follows the order of precedence" a feature? It wouldn't be much of a calculator if it didn't follow them! - There's no way to keep track of old expressions. What kind of calculator these days doesn't have that? - $25!? For a calculator!? ...and finally: - 5^2 = 7. Learn something new everyday, huh? I could have sworn it was 25, but like the guided tour says: "Suppose you were expecting a different answer. Iota-calc lets you step through the evaluation to see why it got the answer it did." [alert admin]

iDo 1.0 (Mac OS X)

First impressions

I'm sure this is a decent program but after using it twice I will keep it only for laughs. I launched the program, resized the window, then popped open the right drawer and it was way too low and small. I quit the program and launched it again just for fun, but the window positioned itself above my menu bar! I noticed the remove button was enabled to I clicked it and it asked me if I wanted to remove the selected item. I clicked OK and it said "A NilObjectException occured." or something along those lines. To the dev: please at least test the MAJOR features for bugs. I don't know how the window ended up above my menu bar or how I got a NilObjectException from deleting an item in the left ListBox, but it sure wasn't from careful beta testing. [alert admin]

Why are you trying to make people pay for access to a forum, especially when there are much larger (and free) online forums available? I go to realbasichelp.com/realgurus.com. Totally free. [alert admin]

Hmmm

No. The next version of iVideo was mostly finished a long time ago, but a universal binary version right now is unfortunately still impossible (due to iVideo being made using REALbasic, and RB not offering decent universal binary support yet). Since everyone seems to be waiting for a UB version of iVideo, I'm kind of stuck at a crossroad right now in deciding whether to finish up the loose ends and just release another non-UB…

Terminology

"QuickTime Pro doesn't have those features... but Footlights does." That's because QuickTime Pro is a license, not a program. The QuickTime API supports some of those features, then the CoreGraphics API handles others. I think you mean QuickTime Player doesn't support some of those features. ;)

Playback issues

Can you let us know which formats are causing the playback problems? I routinely use iVideo on my 333 MHz iMac G3 and iVideo is practically the only app that runs smoothly. Hopefully this is an isolated case that we can solve.

Re: Official Reply

Let's see... someone has legitimate complaints and bug reports, and instead of offering help like a normal developer, you insult me. That seems reasonable.

Since apparently you haven't heard of "test cases" when beta testing, I'll help. Try doing either of these things:

1. Run the program from the DMG it's on (gets a NilObjectException when trying to create the output file).
2. Run the program when the "sahelper.txt" file is missing (gets a NilObjectException on launch).

By the…

Compare with...

iDive and FootTrack are direct competitors, and iVideo is not competing with either one. Those two programs are specifically designed for DV files, including integrated DV camera support. iVideo, on the other hand, supports every format that QuickTime Player supports, but it lacks most of the DV-specific features that those two programs have. If you're looking for a program to catalog movies from your DV camera, take a look at either iDive or FootTrack since iVideo…

love the new features!

Did you even download iVideo? The included documentation has a "What's New?" section, and even just launching iVideo 3 once will show you that the main interface looks a lot different. That said, I don't know why VT doesn't have the version history posted.

Quake 3 is not a real-use situation either

First of all, he said real-WORLD, not real-USE. They mean two very different things. Quake 3 would be a good test because it would actually show how fast the emulator is. WordPad won't show much of a difference in speed between a 200 MHz computer and a 2 GHz computer since it doesn't do much in the first place. And what do you mean by people don't play games in emulators? What's the point of the…
