PDF to formatted text is tricky
PDF to formatted text is an imperfect science, as the source PDF has no layout information (margins, word breaks, line spacing, paragraph starts, etc.) so formatting has to be calculated and extrapolated from the physical location of text in the page space. In other words, it's hard to recompute the layout in a way that works for every possible type of PDF document, and more imporantly, it depends highly on the software that was used to create the PDF (for example, Latex strips out all inter-word spacing). Trapeze works perfectly on many PDFs, but poorly in some (though in the majority of our test cases, it does a fine job). If you find that Trapeze is not working for your files, the best thing you can do is send us some samples. It's the only way we can trace what is happening in the layout engine. Thanks! [alert admin]

Beholder 3.0a1 (Mac OS X)
For users of Beholder 2.1.1 and earlier...
As the current engine was a bit outdated (and only functions somewhat reliably with AllTheWeb), we've completely rewritten Beholder from scratch. The first public release of this new version (Beholder 3.0a1) is now available. Though it is not yet feature complete, it does once again fully support Google image search, and will eventually include the oft-requested "sort by size" feature (probably in 3.01a2). When the final version of Beholder 3.0 is released, it will be a free upgrade for all current registered users, and will remain at its $19.95 price for new users. Thanks for your support. How is Amnesty different from the "dev mode" trick?
The "dev mode" is simply a trick to move Dashboard's widgets onto the desktop, where they remain floating over all your windows. You still have to go to the Dashboard to open and close new widgets. Amnesty is a full-featured Dashboard emulator that offers expanded widget features way beyond what is possible in Dashboard. -from the Amnesty FAQ [alert admin]

No, they can be in any window level
johnak7, control-click (or right-click) on any widget running in Amnesty and select "Configure..." From here, you can set the window level (floating, standard or desktop), opacity and other features. We try to make this clear in the Quick Reference, but some people miss it. We'll see what we can do about making it more obvious. [alert admin]

You need to open "Single Session Tabs" from the File menu. By default a new tab shares the main browser session (like any browser). Single Session tabs allow you to log in again with a new cookie set.

Your "free" widgets float over all your apps, something you don't have to worry about using Amnesty Singles. But of course, to each their own. ;-)

Fails to Process "Capcha" on myspace
Thanks for reporting this! The problem was due to Stainless being mistakenly overly aggressive in its cookie policy (the latest releases of Stainless use a private cookie manager outside of WebKit/Safari, which is why you didn't see the issue in earlier releases). We've fixed the issue for the next release.

Difference between Amnesty Browser and Singles?
Amnesty Widget Browser is a full-featured widget management solution which can be used as a replacement for Dashboard. Amnesty Singles is a widget-to-application conversion utility. Does not provide usable conversion
PDF to text translation is not a perfect science - it depends greatly on the program which created the original PDF files - which is exactly why we provide an unlimited demo period. For some customers Trapeze works perfectly, and for others it does not. However, do consider sending some of your PDFs to support @ mesadynamics.com as it always helps us to have more samples to improve the product. Thanks!
