Developer's site is down! Total scam!
Looks as if the developer's site is gone. That's right, it doesn't exist. This appears to be a typical case of fraud. Hope users were smart enough not to purchase this product. So, if you're considering a download, DON'T! [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.5 (Mac OS X)
Also sorry I spent money for this.
Communication regarding issues has been poor. In addition, the package promises an inclusion of Mac Pilot. Sound like a good deal? Do you want to wait days for a serial number to be issued for Mac Pilot? That's the reality of the matter. Makes no sense either because most software purchases provide immediate serialization information. There's some irony here considering what Versiontracker purports to do. I also contact the software developers for Mac Pilot and that request was also fruitless. I was merely shuffled back to Versiontracker Pro. When considering a cost/benefit analysis, it's not with the price! [alert admin]

Still making great coasters for me!
Made the mistake of buying the prelease version. Albeit, it's fairly cheap and the results are also cheap. I have already ruined a number of CDs and Toast keeps happily chugging along. Consequently, I have little or no confidence in using this application for critical work. Can you image if CDs were still costly? While AppZapper is a great little application, this needs lots of work just for stability. Also, the "smoke" is just that . . . smoke. It has absolutely no value nor attraction. For now, pay the money for Toast; it is certainly the best Mac burning application on the market. [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2007 16.0 (Mac OS X)
Final stage . . . bug still exists
To those that commented with respect to the "Safe" boot instructions, you are most certainly correct. I jumped to a conclusion because of the tech's reference to a PC. Be that as it may, I did, indeed, follow the tech's directions. This means that BOTH the Quicken 2006 program and the most recent update to 2006 were installed while in "Safe" boot mode. Recall that the data file had already been rebuilt in accordance with the help instructions. I rebooted out of "Safe Boot" mode and launched Quicken. I was able to cycle a couple of times with the key combinations to QUIT. Then, on the third attempt, it was necessary to Quit from the menu bar. With respect to another user's comments, I've owned Quicken since my Apple IIGS days. It is truly one of the only applications that upgrades on a yearly basis and requires virtually the full purchase price. This policy shows no consideration to users demonstrating a history of Quicken use. Why? [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2007 16.0 (Mac OS X)
In previous remarks, I have attempted to provide a log of my communication with Intuit regarding a "Quit" bug with Quicken 2006. Well, the last response from Intuit is priceless because the directions are for a PC, not a Mac. Read on! Paul, thanks for your reply. I can understand your concern. In this case, it might be an issue due to some conflict between the Quicken program and the MAC. To correct the issue, please try to reinstall Quicken after you start your PC in safe mode: To perform a Safe Boot, hold down the Shift key at startup immediately after you hear the chimes. Keep holding it until the Mac logo appears on the screen. If you were successful, the words "Safe Boot" should now appear in the logo box. You can now release. If the issue persists, please provide us with the following information. We will be glad to provide you with a new setup file download which you can use to reinstall Quicken on your MAC: Your Full name: Address: Phone number: Zip code: Quicken version and edition: Paul, if you need additional assistance, please reply to this e-mail or visit our support site at http://support.quicken.intuit.com where you can search our knowledge base or chat live with an agent. Have a great day and thank you for using Quicken! Respectfully, Rubul Quicken Customer Care [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2007 16.0 (Mac OS X)
Follow-up on Quicken 2006 "Quit" bug.
As mentioned in a previous comment, I experienced an annoying bug in Quicken 2006 that prevented the key command Quit sequence from functioning consistently. In other words, I often was permitted to Quit ONLY by using the menu bar. So, because a new version has emerged, I contacted Intuit again with respect to the Quit bug. Perhaps, Intuit is trying to sell its product, but I received an email response outlining a troubleshooting procedure. Naturally, I have already followed this sequence, but I thought it worthwhile to post as part of discussion. Thank you for contacting Quicken Customer Care. Paul, I really apologize for the inconvenience caused to you on Email support as your Email was not answered from our end. I am so sorry for that. What I understand is that you are not able to close Quicken through the short cut key and for this you need to go to Menu and click on Quit. In this case I would request you to please trash the preferences of Quicken. The steps trash to trash preferences are as follows: - 1 Quit Quicken. 2 Open the Hard disk. 3 Open the "Users" folder. 4 Open your Mac "User Name" used when starting the system. 5 Open the "Library" folder. 6 Open the "Preferences" folder. 7 Drag any Quicken Preferences you see listed to the trash. 8 Open Quicken, and attempt to register Quicken. If after trashing preferences you gets the same issue, then please follow these steps to uninstall and reinstall Quicken :- 1 Ensure your Quicken data file has been saved to a secure location. 2 Open the hard disk. 3 Open the Applications folder. 4 Drag the Quicken 2006 folder to the trash. (Note: Quicken 2006 folder normally located in the "Applications" folder unless a custom installation was initially performed. Make sure your Quicken Data File is not located in that folder before trashing the folder) 5 Insert the Quicken installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 6 Double-click the CD-ROM icon on the Desktop. 7 Locate and open the Quicken folder. 8 Copy the Quicken folder from the Quicken CD window to the Applications folder on the hard drive. 9 Once the folder has finished copying to the hard disk, eject the CD-ROM. 10 Open Quicken (ensure your data file is opened) Paul, I hope the information which I am sending will be helpful to you. If you need any further assistance, please reply to us with the results you get after performing the steps. We will be glad to assist you further. Your satisfaction with Quicken products and our services is very important to us. Thank you for your patience. Have a great day ahead. If you need additional assistance, please reply to this e-mail or visit our support site at http://support.quicken.intuit.com where you can search our knowledge base or chat live with an agent. Have a great day and thank you for using Quicken! Respectfully, Ruma Quicken Customer Care So, Ruma failed to note that there's another file in the preference folder: "plist." Consequently, I deleted it as well. Quit bug returned after a couple of cycles. Consequently, did a COMPLETE uninstall and reinstalled Quicken. I was also careful to use the latest updater PRIOR to opening a Quicken date file. Then once the data appeared, I immediately repaired it using Command-Option "B" option and saved it as a copy. So, that eliminates any preferences issues and the potential of a corrupted data file. Without fail, the Quit bug returned and this can be duplicated on other machines. At this juncture, I'd say I've got fairly strong evidence that it's a Quicken bug. However, there's one more test I could use to solidify the evidence. However, I am waiting to see if Intuit makes the suggestion. Would I buy the 2007 version? Not on your life. [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2007 16.0 (Mac OS X)
Intuit seems to have a habit of providing meaningless upgrades on a yearly basis. I'm not cheap, and will not hesitate to purchase a better, improved product. However, I am truly skeptical about this update and with good reason. When I upgraded to the 2006 version, I discovered a bug with the key combination "Quit" commands. Simply put, it worked sporadically and only under specific conditions. Tried this version on different machines with different data files with identical results. Deductive reasoning creates the inference that this is truly a Quicken bug. Contacted Intuit and went through the process of rebuilding files to prevent against the likelihood of file corruption. No dice! So, why continue a costly experiment without positive results? Oh, and if Intuit is so short sighted as to not provide a Universal version, then that's a clear display of apathy toward the Mac user. [alert admin]

Mellel 2.0.8 (Mac OS X)
The program works as it was designed to work.
Mellel works as it was designed to work; it is truly a refreshing relief from Microsoft Word. I applaud the code writers who have designed a straight-forward approach to writing. As for the complications, examine Microsoft Word! If one is unwilling to embrace current technology, the one should, indeed, venture back to the past . . . and perhaps remain there. [alert admin]

Like the previous user, I had a nasty experience with this product right off the AppleCare disk. So, I have a jaded opinion, but for good reason. It trashed my hard drive resulting in the necessity of a reformat. A user can backup an entire drive with a very low cost program, SuperDuper. In addition, I have had positive experiences with Drive Genius. TechTool Pro had, with emphasis on HAD, a great history with Classic Mac. For now, the risks are too great to experiment with this product and your data. The choice is your prerogative. [alert admin]

iDive 1.5 (Mac OS X)
I am usually the last one to complain about a price; the developers work hard and certainly deserve adequate remuneration. However, I will make an exception regarding the latest upgrade. The developer, who is quite good with communication, informed me that the latest upgrade fee is good for another 18 months. Granted, this is a rather professional program, but so is Lemke's GraphicConverter and he does not charge upgrade fees of this magnitude and certainly not as frequently. So, I have decided to exercise my choice not to use the program. I will recommend the program, but not the fee associated with it. [alert admin]

There is another force eject command that can be activated from the console. I'll have to research to find the sequence. I believe it's the following: Go into terminal and type drutil tray eject

Bad Hardware & Software - Worse Customer Service
Sorry, I'll take the developers stance on this one. He has admitted a mistake and is willing to make a correction. He's also asked that you make contact with Elgato prior to publishing a "flame" on a forum such as this. I'll agree to that protocol as well. Rather juvenile to make a negative posting without giving the developer a fair opportunity to resolve a dilemma. Also, you might take…

GRR I want to download Something!!
Why not try Limewire instead? I do use Acquisition, but some of the more recent versions have lost appeal. Yep, Limewire Pro version is shareware, but for my money, it works better than Acquisition. Also, it appears as if you're very new to the Mac platform; you've come to the right place! Downloads and installation are usually simple, so there could be a problem at the developer's site.

I am aware of the Safe boot into the Mac. I responded too quickly because he's referred to a PC! The bottom line is that given the Safe Boot installation of the application and the updater, the key combination command still failed after a couple of cycles.

Well, I am willing to hold a developer responsible for things that can be anticipated. However, based upon the developer's explanation, it appears that you are the party at fault. Furthermore, you presented a very jaded opinion without divulging the ENTIRE factual background. Therefore, in this case, I do side with the developer and urge you to present both "pages of the book" when writing a "flame-style" review. Otherwise, your approach…

As was stated, the program was NOT designed for the slower machines and there are specific guidelines for use of the product. In fact, there's an application that provides an analysis to determine whether the applciation will run. Thus, the poster's comments are not relevant and useless in the evaluation of the product. Terms such as "idiot" and "moron" may not be appropriate to the forum, that they are applicable, indeed, in…

This comment is one of the most moronic I've read in recent times. It smacks of an "entitlement" complex when the user is unwilling to pay the shareware fee. Also, the user lacks the ability to apply deductive reasoning. He is making an unsupported assumption that his concerns relate to a specific area, despite the lack of thorough and logical testing. I have used the program extensively and it has never failed.
