AOL actually wrote a new client for Mac users! And it's Universal Binary! AND it actually is halfway decent. While lots of people think AOL sucks, it's great for people like my Dad, and I'm sure he'll appreciate the ease of use and quality of this new lightweight client. No, I don't work for AOL, but I am technical support for my Dad. ;) [alert admin]

MondoMouse 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)
This is one of those add-ons that I normally wouldn't think about, until I actually used it. Once I installed and try this out, I was hooked. Works like a charm, VERY Mac-like (meaning the UI is simple and everything is polished) and most importantly, it's a good price for a tool I'll use all the time. Great job! [alert admin]

This is an FTP server, perfectly done. Maxum has added all the features and administration capabilities you could want in a way that is Mac-like. More importantly, it's stable and works as expected. 5.0 was a great surprise in the fact that my registration which almost a year old works! I appreciate their upgrade policy of taking care of "somewhat recent" purchases being given the latest update. Updating some of the components like the daemon could not have been trivial. Keep up the amazing work and I'm glad to see you continuing to support Rumpus on the Intel changeout! [alert admin]

SuperDuper! 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)
If you need a backup app, SuperDuper! is the only choice, period. If you buy anything else, you can only blame yourself when you have trouble actually using whatever backup app you end up buying and when you have problems with your backup. You have been enlightened. :) [alert admin]

Cast Easy 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)
Clearly (to me anyway,) the 5 star and defensive reviews are coming from the author of Cast Easy. They are all written in the same tone and are VERY defensive to the point that no user would ever write them.
I have used both Cast Easy and Podcast Maker and Podcast Maker is CLEARLY the better of the two. In fact, I used both early on, and it seems like Cast Easy copied features of Podcast Maker.
Now of course this is going to happen - a good idea is worth stealing, but the point is that Cast Easy is probably a 3 star app, where Podcast Maker is EASILY a 4 star app. The UI is worlds better, and it just feels easier and more powerful to use.
Cast Easy "reviewers" - I would stop with the fake reviews - the users (at least I) can see right through the fact that they are fake and defensive. [alert admin]

Transmit 3.5 (Mac OS X)
Pure FTP goodness - Panic style! Other FTP clients have nightmares every single night, with those nightmares being Transmit kicking their ass!
Consider all the additions, fixes, and changes in this version and then consider that if you paid for V3.0 that you get this update *for free*. Panic, as usual, does it right. Very right. Thanks, guys! [alert admin]

SuperDuper! 2.0 (Mac OS X)
2.0 adds a lot of things 1.x was missing, but with that said, SuperDuper! is *the* absolute best backup utility on Mac OS X. This is backup software had Apple done it themselves, and I think that says it all. ;) [alert admin]

e2Sync Tiger 2.6a (Mac OS X)
You *absolutely* need to follow the instructions (especially making sure you are running the proper versions and have selected certain prefs in Entourage), but *IF* (and the keyword is "if") you follow the instructions, this works. And it works FAST. I have used the AppleScript sync app, and this is way faster, but also simpler since it uses the iSync UI.
They do need to polish the UI a little bit (some typos and ToolTips/clarification on what some of the options do) would make the UI experience nicer, but all in all it does what it says, and does it nicely.
I suspect the negative posts are either from competitors or people who didn't read the instructions. They allow full functionality during their trial, so you have nothing to risk, so the people asking for refunds make no sense - why would you pay for something if you didn't try it first (when you COULD try it)?? Emailchemy 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Microsoft sucks and STILL hasn't updated Entourage 2004 to import the "new" 10.4 Mail.app E-mail format (.emlx) - unbelievable support for a $300+ package. My company forced me to use Exchange (a la Entourage), so Emailchemy was the ONLY solution that would easily and quickly convert my 10.4 .emlx mail to a format that Entourage could import. I could have HAND-CONVERTED thousands of E-mails by renaming the extension of .emlx to .eml (per Microsoft's tech support... nice "solution", huh?) They told me I could use automator to batch the rename process, but then when I imported the E-mails, they wouldn't be in the appropriate folders, etc.
Either way, Emailchemy came to the rescue, converted all of my E-mails AND kept the folder/organization I had. While it might seem expensive for a "one time use" app, it was worth the money for the time and stress it saved me. Thanks for providing this solution - you're the ONLY ones to do so! [alert admin]

Why Can't They Fix The Menus for Safari Users? ![]()

This is definitely a Safari issue - it doesn't occur on any other browser I have tried. It started happening around 7/2005, and I reported the issue to Apple (I have a developer account and reported via their developer bug reporter) - it has yet to be fixed. It's obviously not a major issue, and c'mon, how often are you managing your router? But agreed - this is the Safari team not…

stavia - now THAT'S a worthy review. There are lots of issues and you nailed most of them right on the head, but the original poster (and now there's another) pointed out things the app doesn't CLAIM to do, and that's just silly. All DING! is really intended for is alerting you for special DING! fares and nothing more. But, your points of the bad programming/UI are valid and that's what I…

Umm, hello?!? CAN YOU PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING OR USING SOFTWARE AND THEN BASHING IT?!?? PLEASE!?!?!?
If you had read the description, you would know that DING! is an application that alerts you to *VERY SPECIAL, VERY LOW* fares that are not available to people without DING!
Since you won't or can't read, let me break it down for you - You have a limited time to get DING! fares, and the DING! application is…

I did use it - I was a beta tester, and have used Transmit for *years*. I was commenting on the product itself, Panic's ability to keep refining and making the products great, and again - I did use 3.5 - for over 3 months in testing.

Eryx - "A rant by a jerk"? I didn't see anywhere in his poist where this "jerk" called *you* names. Is the name-calling necessary?
It truly is uncanny how liberals resort to name calling, finger pointing, and rudeness when they don't agree with someone else's viewpoint. And writing a widget to bash the POTUS is not exactly classy, either.

schip, I just downloaded the file and the executable bit is set fine. After 40,000+ downloads, you're the first to report this, so I'm not sure what that means. I have changed the download on my .Mac site from a StuffIt (.sit) archive to a .zip archive. Perhaps when StuffIt was causing some problems (I did have about 4 or 5 reports of not being able to unstuff the archive, and maybe your…

2.0 has substantial upgrades, and development costs money. 1.x was pretty basic and missing scheduling. The development for 2.0 also included tons of workarounds and hard work to make it work very gracefully with Tiger, so the increased cost is absolutely justified. They gave a HUGE "present" and gesture to supportive users by giving the free 2.0 upgrade - with the amount of improvements and work they did on 2.0, I'm actually…

Considering the piece of dung Retrospect costs $129.00, I'd say SD! is reasonably priced. ;) Now you might say Retrospect does more/has more functions, but considering it has a horrible/unusable UI, tons of bugs, works sporadically, and their support is non-existent, again, I'd say SD! is reasonably priced. ;)
