FilmSpeed 3.03 (Mac OS X)
What has happened to the understanding that the World is a big place, with many diverse people, with many diverse needs, and with many diverse methods? Clearly the author of that article below does not see that Gorilla can be fabulous for some people in some situations. Just as FilmSpeed - Budgeting has proven to be fabulous for some people in other situations. The reality is that no software can be all things to all people, which is what the writer suggests. If you believe that, you've been misled. There are many film makers working internationally in many countries that find it cumbersome to work simultaneously in multiple currencies, and difficult to be able to alter the budget by changing the exchange rates. We have examined many pieces of software, and yes, not even Gorilla does it. That is why FilmSpeed was written. No piece of film software, high or low priced, comes anywhere near the complexity of working in say 5 different currencies, and to be able to split the budget into country categories or co-production treaty percentages, and be simple and fast to use. FilmSpeed was written because many producers we have worked with, have tried all the major software with very little success. FilmSpeed is designed for the international working producer, and in the short space of time has rendered an incredible overwhelming response. We have "demo" versions of software so people can evaluate whether the product suits their needs. We believe that needs comes first, then find the appropriate software for it. We do not claim that FilmSpeed is for everyone. Just as we have found that Gorilla is not for everyone. The aim of us, as filmmakers, was to develop a piece of software that addressed the exigencies of co-productions, and the data to be easily transportable cross-platform. FilmSpeed achieves that, and achieves that very well. What are our qualifications? What makes us "acclaimed" filmmakers? Having produced 12 major feature films, more than 18 award winning documentaries, major international television series, having produced feature film co-productions between Australia, Germany, UK, France, Japan and US, and having won an Emmy Award, I believe I have enough of a qualification for "highly acclaimed". It is this cumulative experiece that has gone into the development of FilmSpeed. [alert admin]

FilmSpeed 3.03 (Mac OS X)
If your serious about filmmaking, take it from a pro...
Filmspeed is a program made by a internationally acclaimed film maker with
contribution from other acclaimed film makers.
...head over to "jungle software" (do a Sherlock search if need
be) to purchase Gorilla film budget software...
This seems as if the critic is from Jungle Software. He seems to be wanting
to advertise a different product instead of reviewing FilmSpeed. I checked out
Gorilla Film Budgeting Software and found it average compared to FilmSpeed,
particularly in that it does not allow budgeting in simultaneous international
currencies that can be adjusted according to the exchange rates.
...Best of all, it is three hundred (plus) cheaper than moviemagic ...
Gorilla Film Budgeting software may be cheaper than moviemagic by $300 dollars
but shouldn't you be comparing it to FilmSpeed. FilmSpeed is cheaper than the
Gorilla Film Budgeting by $89 dollars in the student edition, $189 dollars in
the standard edition and $289 dollars in the professional version. FilmSpeed
is $110USD which is the cheapest but offers the most features of them all, particularly
relevant for international co-productions.
...runs on native Mac OS X unlike Filmspeed which requires you have Excell....
Filmspeed may run in Excel but Excel is one of the most stable programs out
there. Microsoft Office has been around a long time and has improved their product
over the years. I have yet to find a problem with Office.
Also the critic fails to understand that the value of a piece of software is in its design, function and accessibility, not in the language it is written in. I would much rather prefer a good functional piece of software written in Visual Basic in Excel ( one of the most powerful programming languages around) than thinking that just because a program is stand-alone it somehow has more value.
If you have read all that, you will see that Gorilla Film Budgeting may have a bigger name and has been around longer. But Filmspeed is a new program, with a fresh start making it the first proper film budgeting system specifically designed for international co-productions.
