Firefox 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Changes to bookmarks won't stick upon restart

After using Firefox without issue for several years, Firefox 3.0.1 has serious issues on our machines running 10.4.11 Any added, deleted, or changed bookmarks refuse to stick after a Firefox restart. This is noted in several user postings on the Firefox discussion boards. This is 100% repeatable on all of our intel macs. Even after deleting the user profile, and a completing a clean install of Firefox, the problem returns after the first restart. The bookmarks revert to the previous version. The only solution is to export your bookmarks in a HTML file before quitting Firefox, then re-importing that file upon restart. Weird! [alert admin]

iPod Photo Liberator 1.6 (Mac OS X)

Ridiculously overpriced

Also note, the license is actually a single computer license, not a single user license. From the website: "The Single License only allows you to install the program on one computer." The previous commenters below explain how to manually set up your iPod to do this. [alert admin]

BIAS Peak Pro 6.0 (Mac OS X)

Draconian Authorization Continues....

Re:"I believe for the money I've paid I should be able to move this program between machines as often as I like, as long as it's not running on more than one machine.." I absolutely agree. Bias has always been the most paranoid, draconian, unrelenting company regarding authorizations that I have ever encountered. I have been using their products for many years and have spent a small fortune in upgrades (more than a thousand dollars.) There is no practical reason I shouldn't be allowed to move between machines as long as only one version is being run at a time. [alert admin]

Wallet 2.7 (Mac OS X)

Not to be confused with PasswordWallet for OS X & iPhone

This app should not be confused with the highly rated (Version Tracker = Five stars) application called "PasswordWallet for OS X & iPhone" developed by Selznick Scientific Software, which has been available for years, and is a favorite of many Mac publications and consumers in the Mac community. Discus 4.15 (Mac OS X)

Upgrade price...

The actual upgrade price from version 2 or 3 is $30, according to the website. A bit pricey, considering that most of the supplied artwork appears to be the same as previous versions. [alert admin]

Activity & Expense Tracker Plus 1.8.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Now that's ugly!

This app has a long history as one of the ugliest user interfaces ever designed for the Mac. Even the website appears to have been designed circa 1990, and remains a great example of how-not-to-build a contemporary website. It a shame they don't hire a competent designer to bring their products up to date. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 8.0 (Mac OS X)

Upgrade pricing policy for current users

If one were to go to the Roxio press release page, one may find contact numbers where one could voice an opinion on the Toast upgrade pricing policy. http://www.roxio.com/enu/company/press/07_01_08_pr.html [alert admin]

SilverFast (Epson) Perfection 2400 6.4.4r7 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Excellent

SilverFast literally wrote the book (available at their website) on high-end scanning for those who wish to spend a bit of time learning proper scanning techniques. There is a reason virtually every professional scanner comes with SilverFast included. [alert admin]
