forty-two 1.6.2 (Mac OS X)
Stopped working; developer ignores support requests ![]()

I used this product with no problems when I was running Panther. Since upgrading to Tiger, it complains that I "must install the BSD." I have no idea what it thinks is wants, since the BSD installation is automatically done in Tiger (it isn't an option anymore, it gets installed every time). The developer has ignored three e-mailed support requests and his iChat address is never active. At this point, forty-two looks and smells like a dead product. [alert admin]

This is a terrific app. I apparently have exactly the same needs and desires as the author, because it does exactly what I need and its competitors simply don't. However, good luck finding this app. This site (versiontracker), the author's own site, and almost every other site that claims to carry it uses a non-working download URL at macteens.com. That site has been non-operational for months. I notified the author of this some time ago, to no effect (hence my "Poor" score for "support"). [alert admin]

Apparently this is a bug or a Tiger incompatibility with this version of Toast. If you download the 6.1.1 update, the problem will go away.

you can install the bsd subsystem from your tiger install disc - choose custom install and make sure you select bsd.
1) You can install BSD from your Tiger install disc, but not from custom install, because BSD is always installed with Tiger.
2) You can install BSD by launching /System/Installation/Packages/BSD.pkg on the Tiger install disc.
3) However, none of this makes forty-two happy, It still insists "you must install the BSD."
Forty-two is just broken.
