Does anyone know if you can put password protection on the Zip files that you create with this program? [alert admin]

Unison 1.8.1 (Mac OS X)

Great Newsreader

I would like to echo what a previous poster said and state that this is the best newsreader for Macs hands down. Fast and easy to use. I used to use 1.8.0 and the SSL crashing bug used to drive me crazy, but after downloading 1.8.1 it works like a dream now. On a side note, has anyone managed to get it working through a proxy/SOCKS setup? Just curious as I heard it is possible... The program is a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it. Cheers! S. VLC media player 0.8.6f (Mac OS X)

Subtitle Question

Hi all, I've been using VLC for many years, whenever I got a mainly foreign movie that needed subtitles in it, and it by and large it worked great. However over the last year or so, the number of new subtitles that VLC will recognise is increasing to the point now that I haven't been able to get a new sub to work for the last few months. I have tried so many different sources lately for subtitles, that I know at least ONE of them would have worked by now. Is anyone else having this problem? I have tried the delete preferences script to no avail. Cheers S. [alert admin]

Transmission 0.93 (Mac OS X)

It was a great app...

I was a very happy transmission user until my last upgrade. But now I can't get it to work at all! This is despite extensive trawling of the Transmission forums and tweaking all possible settings mentioned there... So, I can't really recommend it anymore. This is not to say that I think it is a shoddy product, only that I hope it works for you! [alert admin]

Transmission 0.6.1 (Mac OS X)

Great ap

Easy to use and not very CPU intensive. I am among the hordes of people who can't understand head nor tail of Azureus.. so this ap is perfect for me. The only feedback I would add is a question to the developers.. When are you going to add RC4 encryption and do something about this excellent app being banned from so many trackers?? Cheers! RealPlayer 10.1 (build 412) (Mac OS X)

The Gold membership link from Vtracker is free - but don't bother downloading it

If you link from here you get the free player without having to search for things. The player installs and works fine. You don't have to fill out any forms now. However don't bother downloading Real if you want to watch BBC or other news video sites as they don't work with the latest version, despite what the Real website tells you. You try to watch the vids and Firefox tells you that it cannot play the vid as you apparently need further 'plugins'. Clicking on the link you are asked to download some version 10.5..? WTF? I thought I just downloaded the latest version from Real (10.1)? Looking at the date of the '10.5' version it says 2005.. and the latest version (10.1) is dated 2006.. so I don't know what the heck is going on with it. Doesn't work on Safari either. Something about MIME plugins.. So, it is pretty crap really. Why don't more newsites use Quicktime? Good news: Reuters has videos playable on the Mac!! [alert admin]

Skype 1.4.0.35 (Mac OS X)

Heaps of bugs with current version - use a prev version!

As mentioned before, for me anyway this version just plain doesn't work. I eventually got it to start up on demand, but couldn't use skypeout at all! This despite the fact that previous versions worked and other (windoze) users in the same house could skype out using the same internet connection.. Solution? Download an older version of Skype (that I used to use) that you know works! The best website seems to be: http://www.oldapps.com/Skype_Mac_OS_X.htm [alert admin]

Leopard 10.5

Actually it does work on Leopard. The 'stable' download from VT is Tiger only, but the 'unstable' version from the developers site works brilliantly. He says on the site that the only reason it is called an 'unstable release' is because he hasn't added everything he wants to it yet. It is a fantastic program and I hope you try it.

Well done!

Hi there, I read your instructions on how to put the movie onto a vcd (btw I'm a video newbie). I am really keen to burn like you said, but I haven't got QT Pro. Is it worth the money, and can you play the resulting movie on an average standalone dvd player? I was trawling through VTracker and I see a lot of people talking about that ffmpegx compresser program which I think is…
