SWF Encrypt 5.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Terrible Product and Support!!! Avoid!!!

I haven't had such bad service and support for software in a long time, but these guys are absolute ghosts when it comes to support. All they offer is an email form, which they promptly send an auto-response giving you the false impression that someone will actually get in touch with you. Well... I've sent in over a half dozen requests and no response. None. I've even sent in one to the sales department asking for my money back out of exasperation which usually gets some response, but it's been a week now. I'm now going to contact my credit card company and demand my money back. Why do I need support? Not on how to use the software. It's fairly straightforward. But when I encrypt my project, it stalls and never gets past the first request for variable information stored in an external document so it can get it from a database. Without encryption it works perfectly. With it encrypted, it never gets past the very beginning. It never even asks for the document to get the initial information. This with the latest version too: 5.0.2. Bad software and even worse support... being support is non-existant. Avoid at all costs. [alert admin]

Flock 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Interesting...

As a web designer, I always like to see how new browsers will work with my sites. Flock is an interesting browser with a pleasing interface. It's not the speediest browser, but it seems to be trying to attract people from the social networking angle. From that point of view, it's not a bad attempt. The speed will need to be addressed and it seems to have some issues with CSS files as includes from some servers. It seems to handle flash and other media fairly well. Overall, I give it a 3 out of 5. [alert admin]

Balzac 1.0b23 (Mac OS X)

Interesting... but long overdue for an update...

This seems like a solid product at first glance. The interface could be cleaned up and made more up to date as it seems to still have the old 10.3 styled look. Having the ability to actually build and send HTML emails is very nice and what originally attracted me to the product since Apple refuses to make their product easy to control the HTML aspect of emails. Still, it's been over a year since this product was updated and his product page on his website shows no mention of future product direction, so be cautious in it's use. Don't become dependent on it in case it becomes orphaned. [alert admin]

PortableOSX 0.0.1 (Mac OS X)

MacBook Bug...

There's currently a bug in version 0.0.1 where it won't install the system from the install disc that comes with the MacBook. Apparently there is a file it's looking for in the System/Installation/Packages folder for the OSInstallCache, but this file is missing on the MacBook MacOS X Installation disk. So, until this is fixed, this won't be useable for MacBook users. I would like to also chime in though on the request to use the current system on the MacBook instead of the Installation disks. This would make this a great option for people who are having issues on their computers and perhaps lost their installation disks. Perhaps it could be an option choice, since trying to copy active system files could create an unstable system. Still, it would be nice to have the option. [alert admin]

When I try to use this on my iBook G4, it gives an error saying: Error: Path to World of Warcraft application folder is invalid. Any ideas? [alert admin]

I have to…

agree with everyone else here. $49 to upgrade to a minor release is shameful on FileMaker's part. It's not the first time they've screwed up on versions and tried to recoup some lost revenue. They did the same think with FMPro 5 over 4.1 when they realized 4.1 basically gave you unlimited internet access. Sorry... not gonna double my costs for no extra features. Just adding PocketPC isn't worth it, especially for Mac users. [alert admin]

FollowUp: Terrible Product and Support!!! Avoid!!!

After some more research, I found a tool that did encrypt my file and did not keep it from working. If you are looking for the same thing, check here: www.kindisoft.com Their demo worked perfectly, so I bought it. It was $26 cheaper than SWFEncrypt to boot if you get the personal version. I also purchased a decompiler tool just to test this product and it kept my ActionScript code completely hidden from it. Exactly as I was…
