Bookends 10.5.3 (Mac OS X)

Best there is

This is the best bibliographic app on any platform. I have used them all over 20 years. This is the one. In terms of reviewing apps such as this - it is simple - a more powerful and usable bibliographic app does not exist. Bookends is a bona fide bibliographic database that generates the reference output you need for your pubs. It integrates perfectly with MS Word and is fully adjustable to your punctuation requirements. Most journals are already formatted for you, but it is a snap to add your own format. Internet search and integration is perfect - it is a pleasure to use this app. I also recommend Sente, though this latter app has a different purpose - it will hunt and seek the literature you need to review in a fashion that suits your requirements Last but not least Papers is a cool way to store your PDFs. It is great but still needs some tweaks. [alert admin]

EazyDraw 3.0 (Mac OS X)

An app that will win your heart

EazyDraw 3 is an exceptionally powerful program. It has a complex interface unlike any other drawing program. Its tools will appear familiar, yet are actually more flexible than most. The power and diversity of this program for graphical development on the mac is really exceptional. It requires an adjustment in the way you approach your drawing because the interface is rather atypical. This latter issue is my biggest problem when working with the app. The developer has added exceptional features that you find months after you have been working with the app. The app has to become a big player in the mac graphic community. To do that I encourage each user to discuss interface and usability improvements with the developer. Such a developer is clearly very talented and will need feedback to provide the app we all want. To conclude I recommend this app to all mac users either for quick and dirty drawings, or highly involved multilayered sophisticated renditions. My star rating at 4 is due to the fact that usability can be improved, but in terms of functionality this is a 5 star app [alert admin]

Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0 (Mac OS X)

v8.0.0 will not patch

The default disk install will not patch via any of the Adobe official downloads, nor via the Adobe Net updater. Neither v8.1 patch, nor v8.1.1 patch works. A message suggests that some Plug-ins may have been disabled (certainly not by me - I just installed the beast from original disks). The message also suggested to re-install Acrobat Professional. So I tried to re-install just Acrobat Professional 8.0.0 from the original disks, and Disk 2 was suddenly requested - you know, the one with technical resources. No such disk was supplied by Adobe in the 3-disk pack they delivered. Presently Acrobat is not looking very Professional [alert admin]

Amnesty Widget Browser 1.4 (Mac OS X)

Amnesty is Superb

I have used Amnesty since its inception. It works precisely as advertised. I places any widget in your library in your finder environment either as a floating window or just on your desktop. You have full control over placement of each widget and can reduce the size and transparency to your own specific needs. You can lock them in place and disable click activation as you wish. I find that my user environment is much poorer without Amnesty. I use clocks, weather, monitoring widgets, currency calcular, calculators etc. Their ever presence on the desktop provides rich online (live)feedback at a glance. I too notice that Apples weather widget continually creeps up the screen with each restart. It does this on all Mac configurations. This is the only widget that behaves like this, and according to certain threads is due to memory leaks and other issues with this widget, not a problem with Amnesty. The price I think is reasonable, so I can fully recommend Anmesty to any potential user. In fact I have never had cause to ask the developer for help. Enjoy! [alert admin]
