Apple Safari 4.0 (Mac OS X)
The first Safari release in 15+ years of Mac use that I've actually liked rather than just used. However, the fact that it's still not able to configure cookies ŕ la Mozilla-based browsers, and manages to accept third-party cookies despite being set to reject them, remains a serious demerit. Other than that, it's great, especially with Glims. [alert admin]

Camino 1.6.7 (Mac OS X)
Unexpectedly quit and took about four months of history with it. Gone. Wiped. Zip. Except for today's--it's still here. Whoopie. [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.8 (Mac OS X)
Given that after updating I was no longer able to open mail in AOL.com, I reverted to 3.0.6 which, although ugly as of THAT update, at least works. Bizarre. [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 9.0 (Mac OS X)
I haven't been able to view a .wmv file sent as an attachment since I updated Reader. I'm trashing it. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 8.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Updating was without incident but--and I wouldn't have believed this was possible--playback of my one iTunes video is actually even worse than it was prior (clearly, I won't be digging into my pockets for another iTunes-sponsored video stroll down Memory Lane anytime soon). In short, it sucks--the audio plays fine, the video chooses a frame it likes (I assume at random) and just sits there, stuck. Apple should be embarrassed to release such updates; after 10+ years as a Mac person, my basis for feeling superior to my PC-using peers is noticeably eroding. :( Rather than providing a Genius sidebar for the purpose of selling me more product, how about fixing the bugs? And restoring the old look along with functionality isn't a bad idea either. Titanium Book, 1 GHz, 1 GB RAM, OS X 10.4.10 [alert admin]

Camino 1.6.6 (Mac OS X)
This is the first release since 1.5.1 that makes me remember why I love Camino. None of the issues of the previous release, i.e., non-responsive, GUI rendering, typing not in real time, etc. Looks great, PERFORMS SUPERBLY with a bunch of spiffy new features (detects OpenSearch, improved toolbar...); bottom line, it rocks (again). Now, if it only read PDF documents... [alert admin]

Myibay eBay Bid Sniper (Mac) 1.0.9 (Mac OS X)
Is there some reason why this attempted to (unsuccessfully, I might add) install itself on Shiira? My Firefox release is 2.0.0.14. [alert admin]

MacLampsX 2.0 (Mac OS X)
For some reason, it no longer launches (running OS X 10.4.10). I immediately get the "unexpected quit" dialogue--the OS X equivalent of coal in my stocking. Too bad--I've always liked this. Good thing TreetopLights still works. [alert admin]

Camino 1.6.5 (Mac OS X)
This upgrade has been unbelievably slow for me with "not responding" cues on Force Quit Applications; my whole system literally grinds to a halt. Typing is virtually never in real time and frankly, I don't have the time to wait for the delays involved in watching my print come up "eventually". This never happens with Safari (which, in general, I like much less than Camino). In addition, this build seems to have some compatiblitity issues with AOL (yeah, shoot me--I still use them); new mail no longer shows in the mail box without refreshing the page, and trying to open a different mailbox sometimes results in nothing but a refresh of the page I'm on. I need to be able to utilize multiple tabs and windows without my system wheezing as though it's in the throes of an asthma attack, so I'm going to have to trash this version. [alert admin]

Uh...I'm having the same problems with Safari on some sites since I updgraded earlier this year. I've been using Macs for at least 15 years and am acquainted with pretty much all of the fixes (which no longer do the trick). I also happen to have the misfortune of running OS X 10.4, alas. Why not allow for the remote possibility that maybe, just MAYBE, someone with problems isn't imagining them for the sole purpose…

I noticed the Shockwave repairs, too. Keeping my fingers crossed that all remains well.

I haven't updated yet, but the previous build has left me unable to access mail on AOL.com..."too many redirects." Huh? I also miss the status bar...I think Apple sometimes tries to be too slick for its own good.

I agree with you about the cookies, although it has never been my experience that Safari rejects cookies when private browsing is enabled, regardless of build (and I've been using Macs since before Safari was developed). I've always felt that Safari's cookie configuration options are primitive compared to Mozilla-based browsers, but then they don't offer a private browsing option. I suppose this is why so many of us rely on more than one browser--none of…

Why do I need to justify it? Let's just accept that it is and that I want to be the one to delete it; if it weren't potentially important to users, why have it--and the ability to configure how long it should be stored--at all?

Why should anyone have to? I know I didn't with any of the updates prior to 3.0.8 (which I ended up trashing).

Well, the problem is that people write the product; it's not pulled out of the ether. And unfortunately, no one's writing anything good over there. I don't even use AOL Radio anymore because of the "goiter" that sticks out on the side, something, I might add, that was absent from the early releases (which are no longer supported, I might add). They've bounced over 300 pieces of e-mail from my Yahoo Groups in the last…

It's funny but I find Camino much more of a RAM hog than Safari, and this release is no better. In fact, so far this most recent release is a lot more apt to hang up than the previous two.
