InstallBuilder 5.4.7 (Mac OS X)
Wouldn't you expect a screenshot of the correct system for a product at 600 bucks? :-) [alert admin]

Lotus Notes 8.5b (Mac OS X)
Best Notes client ever, but... ![]()

only install the basic version (190 MB). It runs very stable and fast. The new mail template works great with server versions 6.5.x, 7.0.x and 8.0.1 and looks very pretty. Client ist much faster than 7.0.3, perhaps because of universal binary version.
But beware: First I installed the full eclipse version (730 MB). It took nearly 2 minutes to start the application (MacPro 4 x 2,66 GHz, 4 GB!!!), ran very instable and asked about four times for the password (for every java task it starts) which then couldn't be saved. If you try to move a mail document to a folder you have to be very very very patient.
To IBM: Some info like "What's new" or a screenshot would be fine.
Resumé: The basic client is the best Notes client ever, the full eclipse version needs a revision from the ground off. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Update - start iTunes - everything OK. Had never problems with any updates from Apple, not even with the bigger ones. My machine (G5 1.8 DP) came with 10.2.8. Always updatet everytime an update was available until 10.5.2. [alert admin]

Cyberduck 2.8.2 (Mac OS X)
Again problems with authenication
Had problems with authentication again like in version 2.8.0. Reentering account data didnt' help. Switched back to 2.8.1 (with that version no problems even with leopard!). But all in all it's a wonderful software: fast, and easy-to-use interface. Good work. [alert admin]

Carbon Copy Cloner 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Had never any problems with CCC. We install every new Mac here with CCC, PPC as well as Intel (about 50 machines until now). Saves a lot of time and never fails. Thanks very much to mike for developing this tool and giving it to the Mac community. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 3.0.2b (Mac OS X)
Very fast an at most times stable version. One problem: trying to upload a file, f.e. within a webmail-application, Safari crashes. [alert admin]

Webmin 1.350 (Mac OS X)
We're using Webmin for years now on all of our ca. 30 X-machines (Linux of all flavours, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS X) and never had any problems with it. If you know how to use the utilities here you can save a lot of time in administrating your systems. Some modules dont' work with all systems, but in most cases these modules won't be installed at all if they're not made for the underlaying system.
Of course PLESK ist much more professional (I use it, too), but in some cases very limited, so I installed Webmin parallel to PLESK:-) [alert admin]

I used ARD for over a year now and everything worked fine until I got a new MacPro. Then suddenly work was a pain in the a... It seems that Apple doesn't test their software on new machines:-(
I already installed ARD from the scratch but it didn't help anything. Seems that I've got to switch to my G4 PowerBook. Though this machine is five years old it runs everything I need to administrate the whole network, including ARD! [alert admin]

You forget resource forks (yes, they're still out there)! The implementation of Samba in Leopard splits resource forks in two files (Apple double) while other clients still save the resource fork together with the data fork (Apple single). If you need to find a common ground, you need DAVE!

What I meant is that MM ist much more than just a mind mapper (see entry from ccaslas). I dont't know the product Inspiration but will have a look on it. My comparison was the mindmapping part of MM, so I think, to compare it with OmniGraffle ist a little bit better than iTunes with XPress:-). An Export to MS Project btw is on the windows side possible.

That's it. Thanks again. In that way you could even implement the help direct into the application by including QuickInfo popups:-) Just an idea: If you put the template files into a subfolder within the user preferences, you could clap two flies with one hit (ist's a geman saying, hope it's clear what I mean:-). First you have a central place for the template files where the user has access without the need of an admin…

OK. But then it takes the file from the place where you dropped it. If you do it my way, the template files are all together at one location. Perhaps you forgot to add the file to the list: klickt the "+"-button and add the content manally.

is a basic component of OS X and is installed with the normal system install. You can determin the location of perl by typing "which perl" in the terminal application. It should look something like this: sberchtold@beit-g4:~ > which perl /usr/bin/perl If it is at an other place, webmin doesn't find it. You can then place a symbolic link of perl at this place. (ln -s /path-to-perl /usr/bin/perl). For that you have to be the root user. A…

Virex is the best virus protectin tool for the Mac since the first version. I'm using it since version 3.? and it never failed it's job. The only problem is the bad support from NAI/MacAffee. If you call them, they hardly know that they sell Virex. Pity.
