SpamSieve 2.6.4 (Mac OS X)
After years of having to go through several dozen e-mails a day and selecting what was junk and what wasn't in Apple's Mail program, I finally took the plunge and tried SpamSieve. While the installation isn't as simple as one would expect for an Mac app (i.e. dragging it into the Application folder) it still isn't difficult and only takes a few minutes.
Right from the get go SpamSieve managed to reduce the amount of junk in my Inbox but three quarters and the program is quickly learning what I perceive as spam. I can only imagine within a few days I won't have to worry about junk mail anymore.
And while I agree with many the price tag is a bit steep for such a program (or is it plugin?) I'm still happy enough with the demo I'm willing to part with the $30.
If you have a lot of spam that is missed my your e-mail program definitely check out the 30-day demo of SpamSieve. I think after a short time you'll see the benefit of such a program. [alert admin]

MacScan 2.3 (Mac OS X)
While the debate continues to wage as to whether such a piece of software is necessary for OS X it still never hurts to be somewhat cautious. The install went smoothly and the user interface is clean and easy to understand. While a scan of my system yielded no spyware or adware (and this is the first time I've run such a scan since I purchased the computer back in 2003) it did find 61 tracking cookies which it immediately removed. I could have just as easily deleted my cookies folder to take care of this problem but using MacScan I saved the legitimate cookies from the malicious ones. Is a piece of software like MacScan necessary? I suppose that's up to the user. But rating a piece of software poor because people think it's unnecessary is foolish. MacScan does what it claims and, from what I can tell, does it well. Is it worth the cost? For me probably not because I haven't had a problem as of yet. But that doesn't mean future problems won't occur. For those that have had problems with spyware and adware this software may be a good investment. For everyone else it's a choice between being proactive or reactive. [alert admin]

I used to use Firefox religiously but with subsequent releases found the browser more and more unstable. And I was a big proponent of Firefox which is why I'm so disappointed with it lately. With the last full release I switched back to Safari and haven't had an issue since. I will wait to install Firefox until I see what other users experiences are. [alert admin]

Apple iPhoto 6.0.4 (Mac OS X)
I'm just trying to balance out the rating on this version since the two negative reviews aren't even reviews but commentary by incompetent users.

If you have trouble mounting the update use Apple's Software Update. It installs with no issue and iPhoto works fine. [alert admin]

It installed fine for me but, then again, I installed it through Software Update. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 6.0.4 (Mac OS X)
I installed it through the Software Update and I haven't had any issues. Audio is great and the radio stations work. I have a Dual-G5 2GHz PPC system with OS X 10.4.6.
iTunes is still the best. [alert admin]

Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5rc2 (Mac OS X)
I've been using Thunderbird for over a year, first with their beta 1.0 series and through to the latest release candidate. I've never had issues with importing mail or addresses nor has the program ever caused me grief with crashes. It junks spam accurately too, something no other e-mail client has been able to do for me.
If you haven't given Thunderbird a try you should do so. [alert admin]

Microsoft Windows Antispyware 1.0.0.615 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
While the ideas implimented in Microsoft's "AntiSpyware" are good they are not perfect. One downside is Microsoft's program didn't find several spyware programs that competing software managed to track down, even with the latest definition file (update file, whatever you want to call it). If Microsoft can manage to find all spyware on one's system and manage their "spyware server" (which is a great idea by the way) they will have a great product. I will give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt because this is still a beta. When the offical version is released I will be expecting more.
But give "AntiSpyware" a chance. Just don't use it as your sole spyware removal program. [alert admin]

Firefox 1.0.7 (Mac OS X)
... as usual. Nothing changed that I can tell but it's probably security concerns. [alert admin]

I think it's good they still make it, especially for the gamer. Booting directly into Windows instead of a virtualization program allows more resources for the game allowing it to run better.

Yeah... but I believe Windows is based on the x86 architecture as is Intel and AMD. The new Mac's are Intel-based. I don't think the PowerPC is at all compatible. I may be wrong though. Anyone know if it's at all possible?

How can you justify giving 10.4.3 a 1-star review when you haven't even installed it and tested it?

I got this same message. Though, to Apple's credit, they did say in the description "Power Mac G5 (June 2004)". It would be nice if they made it a little more apparent though.
