File Buddy 9.0b5 (Mac OS X)

Invisible works

Version 9 does not properly search for Invisible files. When selected it will

display all files (which includes all the visible files).

I don't know when this was addressed, but I get only invisible files if that is what

I ask for. I am using 9.0b5. [alert admin]

QuarkXPress 6.5 Filter for Spotlight 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Stay away from this one!

I installed this Spotlight filter with high hopes. It certainly would be a great benefit for us to be able to search inside Quark files by content through Spotlight. It, unfortunately, exacerbates the dreaded XPress autosave bug. With this installed, XPress leaves .a$v files around that can not be emptied from the trash. In addition, files that you think you saved because you did a cmd-S are not always saved, losing hours of work sometimes. There is not an uninstall with this, instead you have to read the documentation very carefully and find the mention of the two files that it installs and then manually delete these files. When I deleted them and logged out and in again, the problems disappeared. To make it worse, the technician at Quark told me that I would have to buy the upgrade to XPress 7 in order to get the autosave bug fixed! [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Would like to print the list

Even though "Print" is a standard Mac item under the File menu, VT doesn't have such an option. Isn't that odd? It sure would be handy to be able to print the items that are not up to date so that I can do more research into whether or not I want to upgrade before sending VT merrily on it's way. [alert admin]

Default Folder X 2.5a6 (Mac OS X)

Intuitive and good

This is one of those programs that is so good that I forget that it isn't part of the OS. When I have to work on a machine that doesn't have DF running, it feels clunky. Highly recommended. [alert admin]

Page Sender 3.3.1 (Mac OS X)

I highly recommond

this program. I have used it for over a year and am very glad to be able to have it. There is a separate uninstaller so a previous posted didn't have to try to find files. Works great and is much better than the built-in faxing. I selfishly highly recommend it (I want the programer to stay around a while!). [alert admin]

They fixed

my only concern -- it is now very easy to reschedule an event. Thanks! [alert admin]

Metes and Bounds 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Nice concept

pretty rudimentary, but functional. Little things don't work, like cmd-s for saving, cmd-w for closing window, the window doesn't show the title of the saved file, etc. I wanted to know the acrage of my land and it calculated that just like I had hoped (although I have no way of checking it's accuracy). The author made recommonded changes real quickly. [alert admin]

iSeek 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)

iSeek is great

I use it every day. There might be other donationware out there, but donationware isn't freeware ..I hope that many of you donate. That makes this price very much in line. [alert admin]

starTime 1.6.3 (Mac OS X)

Very good, simple

reminders app. I have used tons. The best without being bloated that I have found. I would like a little more flexibility when setting reminders to dismiss for a while -- I would like to be able to specify from the reminder box an exact day and time, instead I can only dismiss for xx number of minutes, hours or days. All in all a good, solid program. [alert admin]

Page Sender 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

This has been the best...

faxing software, certainly since GlobalFax. I have tried most of the ones out there. I fax from my computer 8 to 10 times a day and need a simple, intuitive method. This is it. [alert admin]

Unbelievable! Rant

It is too bad that you bashed Quark so bad because you didn't find the preference to use "drag and drop" text. It is in Preferences: Application: Input Settings. Mike

Forgive me...

I have used PageSender for a few years now and wouldn't be without it. It is much easier to use than the built-in support and works like a charm. I had some issues a year ago when caches were cleaned PageSender needed to be reinstalled, but that was fixed.
