Logitech MouseWare 4.0.6 (Mac OS 9)

4.0.6 STILL has BUG: Unresponsive after Restart

Mouseware 4.0.6 STILL has the same bug mentioned by others regarding Mouseware 4.0.5: After restart, the cursor/trackball would not always respond, even though trackball power indicator lights are active. Happens about 60% + of the time. Unplug trackball from keyboard, re-plug in would fix... Temporarily until next restart... So I try MW 4.0.6, exact same problem! Have carefully troubleshot to try to identify if there are any conflicting extensions, etc ( I am a Mac Tech), but NO, this bug is entirely within MouseWare... Running TrackMan Wheel (USB, to Keyboard to CPU, not via Hub) on OS 9.1, G3 466, exquisitely maintained [alert admin]

Clouds Error introduced…

in v 1.5.4 is still faulty in 1.5.5. The clouds are still text error message comments from NOAA website in ‘cloudy’ font. Really annoying distraction from an otherwise neat-o concept. If you try this program, don’t use the clouds option, it looks bizarre... [alert admin]

How to update…

if you have install errors for PP/Excel 98 Macro Vulnerability version : First, Trash old copies of PP & Excel from your 'MS Office 98' application folder (Keep the prefs). Then drag/copy over fresh copies of PP & Excel from your original Install Disk to replace the ones you just trashed. Then apply all updates in strict Date Order, oldest ones first, (Hint: Some of the six Old updaters don't affect PP & Excel) and then it will FINALLY accept this vulnerability bug fix. (This is the install order I had originally done, yet it failed until fresh re-install). The link for PP/Excel 98 Vulnerability patch is 1 mm below the link for the Office 2001 version. This same identical bug appears in ALL versions of MS Office, and this barely patches an old serious flaw and vulnerability. [alert admin]

Some People are…

missing the point: OK: MS Office for Mac is a good TOOL. Now only RANK the UPDATE!! I for one, rank the UPDATE for Office 98 Macro Vulnerability a -10: It gives a fcuked up error message on a non-ResEdited virginal copy of Office 98, that has Never had any hacks done: ONLY MS authorized Bug Fixes. So the UPDATE failed for me. I am an expert level user, so I definitely blame the shortcomings of the update, not my multiple download(s) of the updates, nor the various attempts to get this Vulnerability patch to work. Some people are giving the MS Office 'Suite' Five Stars! The Update doesn't deserve it: I mean the fact that they have to continually Plug their own vulnerabilities and BUGS should merit a somewhat lower ranking... [alert admin]

Apple Spec Database 8-98 (Mac OS 9)

An essential reference…

source, different, more complete and just better than the Apple Spec online reference. There used to be a version called Apple Spec Database 11-98 (which I downloaded and owned) that included later iMac and G3 info, not included in the 8-98 database. but it got pulled for some reason. I didn't give this 5 stars because Apple no longer supports or upgrades this database in this superior format, that you can "own" and not just browse like the online dumbed down version. ChunkJoiner 2.2 (Mac OS 9)

This version is…

"almost" there. but not quite. Has an annoying bug: Say you try to join 4 chunks, it will always ignore the last chunk. Say you get the 3 combined chunks, and try to join the 4th to it> Fails. Have tried all the instructions: List view vs. Icon view, Click first, then shift clik rest, choose all, etc, but still no go. This is the only tool of its kind for mac, so whatcha gonna do? StevePerfect 5.0 (Mac OS 9)

Damn! StevePerfect has…

now removed my need for SimpleText. ( I just stumbled on to this product, how come nobody ever mentioned it to me? ...) Version 5.x+ is a contender for my Top list of free/share apps that includes GraphicConverter, FinderPop, and SoundApp. It's Free, and it fills its little niche so richly, almost perfectly. Thanks Steve !! [alert admin]
