PulpFiction 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Apart from the fact that the 1.0 version seemed a little slow to me, I just found it too time consuming to set up each of my several hundred feeds the way I'd like them. The software expects you to filter by content - but this misses the whole point of blogs. Blogs are unpredictable. A site like boingboing.net will talk about everything under the sun just because it is cool. If I filtered it by content I'd miss half the posts that interest me. True, I could set up individual filters for each of my feeds - but who wants to spend the time doing that? Also, even though you can group folders hierarchically, you can't set preferences for all the feeds in a folder (presumably because they assume the folders don't represent feeds, but are content filters instead). This is a pain, because I like to group my feeds and then set my preferences by group, rather than individually by feed. [alert admin]

Mellel 1.7.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Word can save files in RTF format without loosing any formatting or data. Mellel can read RTF. If you read the release from the last version of Mellel, you will see that they are releasing a new version soon that will have better RTF import, and export. This should allow full compatibility with Word, using the RTF format. As of OS X 10.3 TextEdit can open .doc files without the use of the antiword service, you can also download freeware programs like JOffice that will let you open a word document and save it as RTF, if you really need to do the conversion without owning a copy of M$ Word. But your friends and colleagues with Word will have no problem opening and reading Mellel documents exported as RTF. Like I said, the current release does not yet offer full RTF export, but it should be updated with better RTF capabilities very soon! [alert admin]

Shrook 2.0 (Mac OS X)
When expanding the "item pane" it is very quick, but collapsing it again is S ... L... O ... W... Why not make it look more like iTunes, with the item pane below the others? I think this would make much more sense than having to constantly expand and contract the window. Feeds do seem to update much faster than NNW. [alert admin]

DEVONnote 1.0a (Mac OS X)
Unfortunately, no support for double-byte text (i.e. Chinese) indexing or search. So I'll stick with Hog Bay Notebook. [alert admin]

One thing that is very important to me is the ability to import/export my data from any application. I hate being locked in to a single application - who knows when it might stop being freeware, or when the developer might give up development. Not to mention the fact that if you've spent a lot of time developing data in one application and you decide to switch, lack of an import function means wasting quite a bit of time! As of now, this otherwise nicely designed application offers no OPML import or export, so it gets a much lower rating than it might otherwise. [alert admin]

Tasks Pro 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I have been using the donationware version for over a year, and I love it. This commercial version is only for those who need multi-user functionality. Otherwise, check out "Tasks"! [alert admin]

Inquisitor 0.62 (Mac OS X)
Not there yet. Needs to allow you to see more search results at once. The whole point of live searching is usually to narrow down a large list, if you only see five results all the time, you defeat the point. Also, the default search engines are limited. For instance, I would prefer to use Froogle for shopping, but there is no way to change this. Also, there are often many settings related to searching that you can't set in this app, but you can set if you use your web browser. Still, it is a nice interface and surprisingly fast. RE: open in tabs. This is something you can set in Safari. [alert admin]

You can tell LaunchBar to scan only whatever folders you choose - in the configuration panel.

This is easily fixed. Simply create a new user filter with the properties: -filter and the domain: .apple.com Software update will work again!

If you turn on the debug menu in Safari you can "pose" as anothe browser (such as Mozilla) - this solves most of the problems associated with sites that rely on your browser identification for content.

I hadn't realized that Snail Mail could also do bar-codes, but it can! However, I noticed a big "unlicensed" button in Snail Mail - I think it is really "donation ware" or simply shareware without any limitations, not really "free"!

As I said - there are only problems with iTunes Music Store, Sherlock, iDisk, etc. Personally I don't use iDisk or Sherlock, but I've had the problems with the iTunes Music store. See these threads: http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?13@@.3bc21805/5 http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20021122054435771 http://sourceforge.net/tracker/ index.php?func=detail&aid=729900&group_id=11118&atid=111118 As you can see, I am not the only person experiencing these problems...
