PDFtoHTML 0.1b (Mac OS X)

It works, but...

To make this application work in the first place, avoid two things: 1. Don't move the default instalation. 2. The POSIX path to the PDF you want to convert must not contain special characters, including SPACES. So, move/copy your PDF to the Desktop (which is a safe path: /Users/yourname/Desktop/) and remove any special characters and spaces from its name, using only basic Roman alphabetic characters, numbers, hyphen, dot and underscore. Quick CD Cover 1.1 (Mac OS X)

It works, but...

... it's not as easy as it could possibly be. First of all, it helps if you understand at least a little about some sort of programming, so you can modify both the AppleScript code as well as the XSLT/XSLT:FO code to suit your needs. I speak a *little* AppleScript as well as HTML/CSS and I understand the basic concept of XML, so I was able to figure out quite a lot. Second, the TextXSLT application is not very stable but that's not the fault of the developer of this little AppleScript and should not be reviewed HERE. Third, the script now works only with an AUDIO CD playlist, not with a simple iTunes playlist. But it could be modified to make it work with any playlist, of course. [alert admin]

iCalamus 101 (Mac OS X)

Not bad

This could become a good and easy to use layout app. But after a couple of minutes playing with it I'm already missing: - Spot colors - Moving objects between layers - Deselect all - Join path - Zoom/Move shortcuts à la cmd-space - Quick page preview - Editing guides - ... And there's no Services support. Why? I thought it "just works" in Cocoa? Not ready yet to replace InDesign 2 (!) which is what I'm still using for my layout work. [alert admin]

DJ-1800 2.2 (Mac OS X)

DJ-1800

In fact, in its class DJ-1800 doesn't really have any competition. Some professional Mac DJ applications are much more expensive and they suffer often on "featuritis". Others are more in the "hobby-DJ" class (and also a bit cheaper) and thus lacking some essential features for pro and semi-pro DJs which you can find in DJ-1800. 2.2 is the best version ever. The playback is now very reliable (basically due to QuickTime 7 - not all of the earlier problems were the developer's fault!) and the overall performance has been highly optimized. MIDI support is a nice addition, especially if you have one of the supported DJ controllers (I don't). However if you want to control DJ-1800 with non-DJ devices like general MIDI keyboards, there are still a couple things that need to be fixed; I hope this will happen in v3.x. (I'll be posting workarounds in forums.dj1800.com/viewtopic.php?t=438) I use DJ-1800 on an iBook G3/700, and although it's slightly below the minimal system requirements, v2.2 now runs better than any version before. Of course it runs much better on my Powerbook G4/1.67, but I don't use that machine for deejaying... And finally, it's also necessary to highlight the excellent support from Dave Addey, the developer... :) [alert admin]

Project Timer Lite 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Frustrating

After using the original Project Timer for a couple of years I attempted to migrate to Project Timer Lite 1.0.1 (i.e. the latest version). It was a very frustrating experience. So many bugs and such an inconsitent interface that I'm simply tired to send any feedback to the developer. I'm very sorry to say that -- but Project Timer Lite sucks. Most likely I will switch to TimeLog. [alert admin]

ChronoSync 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)

Great

Using ChronoSync for synching with an iBook and for automatical backups to a second internal hard drive, to a FW drive and for daily backups to a disk image of a CD-ROM size (to get burned when full). CS works perfectly, excellent support. [alert admin]

Colorized icons

Colorized icons are back! Those horrible stripes in the List and Column view are history. Thanks Unsanity. [alert admin]

Installer Observer 3.0.3 (Mac OS 9)

Excellent software, very…

useful! As for the reviewers (reviewer?) giving this app consequently one star: READ the ReadMe document (nomen est omen... ;-) and download the manual and READ it as well if you can't figure out how this simple tool is supposed to work. But I assume you've been actually reviewing your BRAIN, haven't you...? ;-) (I don't really like to be rude, but this time I'm making an exception...) [alert admin]

TestXSLT

"TestXSLT" is the correct name of the third party app, of course. Not "TextXSLT"

Protected AAC

Protected AAC is played by the QuickTime audio engine. If an application uses QuickTime to play audio, it will play any m4p from iTMS. Traktor DJ obviously doesn't make use of QuickTime. Try DJ-1800 instead.

A conflict and a crash...

> "Using FontCard in TextEdit has caused the app to crash." It did it to me as well. I have immediately contacted Unsanity support sending a crash log and within minutes (!!!) I have recieved a reply from Unsanity's Rosyna with a tip to disable ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Ittec.osax. That helped, no more crashes in TextEdit. Obviously Ittec conflicts (once more) with this Haxie. You may need to trash FontCard prefs as well.
