VLC media player 0.9.3 (Mac OS X)
But I don't. 'Way wonkie. I noticed that the developer's site (as of 1400hrs cdt, Saturday, Sept 27, 2008) has disabled the forum due to heavy traffic. That means to me that many are having problems. If something works well the masses don't flood the forums so much; wouldn't u agree? [alert admin]

Apple Security Update 2008-003 (Mac OS X)
to Versiontracker for posting this update before Apple seems to have been able to post a stand alone DMG as of 1830 CDT Wednesday, May 28, 2008 [as far as i can tell after checking Apple.com Downloads several times.] [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (Mac OS X)
What's new in this version Adobe? C'mon give me a clue right here on versiontracker. I hope what's new is stability improvements and code streamlining. I don't have time to try to find the answer on the Adobe website, sorry. This BloateWare behemoth is an unstable resource hog (period.) [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (Mac OS X)
"What's new with this version" is not showing. Am i wrong or is that missing and needed here? I believe it is an unfortunate omission, especially with the instabilities and resource demands of recent versions of this software. This is a behemoth. I need to know how it is evolving; right up front. [alert admin]

World Book 9.0 (Mac OS X)
- generally geared toward high-schoolers - WorldBook for Macintosh 2005 Tiger Edition version 9.0.x came with my iBook 1.33GHz G4 with OS 10.4.2 as the OEM OS, two years ago and has been a fairly solid, reasonable mini-encyclopedia resource, right here on my local hard drive. 'Not exactly sure, but I believe the whole thing takes up a little less than 1.3 GB with all free updates. Of course the multi-media features are well beyond a mini-encyclopedia with mini-films and many images, but most text articles are short and seem to be geared toward a high-school reading level. That can be quite useful if you just need a quick idea of a subject. More complex topics are often not included at all, not a part of the data base; such as complex medical subjects, and that has been a disappointment. Entries tend to be sanitized of most controversy, mostly void of criticism of mainstream figures, organizations etc. The multi-media stuff adds a few seconds to launch time, makes it a little top heavy, but not too bad. It's colorful and somewhat interactive and so might grab some interest from a teenager. WorldBook for Macintosh "is what it is" and I'm glad I have it. It's useful. [alert admin]

Quicksilver 1.0b51 (Mac OS X)
Pardon my skepticism and concern; why are we still on v. 1.0beta51 for such a long time? Apologies to those who seem to love this software. [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.1.0 (Mac OS X)
This product has become a monster. Crashy, resource (processor, RAM and drive space) hog. I'm not that under powered either: 1.5GB RAM 1.33GHz G4 iBook with 5400 RPM 120 GB Hard drive with 95GB free and unfragged. This software deserves one star from me, but I'll wait to drop the one star bomb until after I do more testing.. But first impressions can in fact be correct, y'know. [alert admin]

OpenOffice.org 2.2 (Mac OS X)
Does this software Alter my System Fonts? That sounds ~ ooo ~ scarey. I was almost ready to go for it when I read something about this on the OpenOffice site. However, there was very little elaboration and after 45+ minutes of searching, (wikis etc) i couldn't find scant other comprehensible references on the subject. I did read that during instalation you may be offered the option to permit OOo to modify your system fonts or not. If you say no, your keyboard functionality may be reduced. I've chickened out and gone back to NeoOffice. Who know's more that that? Pray tell. [alert admin]

ScholarWord 1.1.6 (Mac OS X)
But the price is not $19.95 as stated here on version tracker. It is $29.95 if you want the all hallowed APA format which is offered right here on version tracker at the incorrect price of $19.95. That little switcher-oo really irks me. Call me hypersensitive. [alert admin]

Pando 1.5.0.0 (Mac OS X)
There are plus, pro and publisher versions of this software.
What is the plain (free version) called? Pando? Is it really a free version or is it demo-ware? Not clear from developer site. Maybe i'm just excessively leery, but I'm inclined to agree with a previous poster that there seems to be something ambiguous about the product description. I may be wrong. 'Haven't tried yet. the value of this, for example, for folks who need to be able to open M$ Office files but can not afford to get yanked by M$. Surely that deserves many thanks to the hard working people who provide this product for FREE. It is vastly superior to MS Office on that philosophical count alone.

None the less, someone at Apple posted this to VT before someone (else?) at Apple posted it to their own Apple.com downloads site. That's still a positive reflection on the relevance of VT; wouldn't you admit? And by the way, be nice. Or at least try not to be so insulting. That would be my advice.

Firewire blows away USB2 at real world speed and..
You may be right about this software, haven't tried it yet, but I'll say i've found with both Mac & PC that USB2 external drives are painfully slow in every case, by comparison to Firewire (IEEE 1394.) Also, If the drives are more than 2/3rds full or so, it can not only be a major slowdown, but increases the risk of hardware failure of the drive. Drives need 'scratch space' to keep from working overtime.…

Because it is a local resource.
It provides a good old fashoned local resource, and in a uniquely WorldBook fashon: a condensed article (blurb-like) and is always available on my local hard drive, even if my computer is not connected to wifi or other www access. ('Like, wow, i'm in New Orleans and wi-fi is not everywhere, man; dig?. Peace.)

and when do I'll be sure to have my metric measuring capabilties ready before I try the Yum recipes. Thanks for the heads up on that count; sincerely. However, fasten your seat belt because I'm about to flame you a little: I do not think it is fair for so few stars to be given on your observation. So, here are a couple of quick points, far from a comprehensive argument: 1. Please realize that only 3…

NeoOffice-2.1-Patch-7-PowerPC.dmg is out and humming along sweetly on my little iBook 1.33GHz G4 with 1.5 GB RAM and new 5400rpm internal hard drive. To be more precise, i am under the impression that my keyboard functionality would be reduced only while running OpenOffice, if i were to not permit it to modify my system fonts during installation. best regards, and can anyone out there explain this any better? sgs, new orleans

Can you offer any more useful details about what's crashing or what's wonkie; y'know stuff that others can compare misery with or solutions to, or what not-to-do based on your misfortune? Vent you spleen , yeah, but gimmie something i can learn more from. I'm really trying to sink my teeth into this OS. rsvp, and thanks for your time, bro' sgs, new orleans
