WriteRoom 2.0 (Mac OS X)
. This same full screen writing 'technology' has been a part of Mac Journal for ages - It should be part of whatever mess this companies notebook app is now called. Selling it as a $25 separate tool is bizarre and a smack in the face of current Hog Soft notebook users. My advice - If it works for you great, but think twice before investing, try Mac Journal first. . [alert admin]

Absolute Farkle 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Good, but just too expensive for an impulse buy.
Its a developers prerogative to charge what he likes for his hard work, time and effort. Unfortunately that does not mean thats what the item is worth or potential users are willing to shell out. I would pay $6.95 but don't feel that an 'addictive virtual dice game' playing/looking the way it does is worth $20. Which is a pity as I am the model customer for a game like this. I have played it hundreds of times over many years ( real rather than virtual ) but can see no reason that this should be an automatic purchase. Its just IMHO too 'home-grown' for that price level - You can take a beak from your screen and get some real luxury die for $5. [alert admin]

Default Folder X 3.0.3b4 (Mac OS X)
I haven't used DF in a while now. If you are reasonably well organized to begin with this is just overkill. Cool to have in old OS8 and 9 days but for what it does, it's expensive now. The beginning of the end came when Little Snitch said that it was a security leak and that it was trying to bypass snitches own security measures. [alert admin]

DEVONthink Pro/Office 1.3 beta (Mac OS X)
. A very solid application that is a great virtual filing cabinet, Probably the best you can purchase right now. My only negative comment is that the interface and general ergonomics of the app are so pedestrian. One thing DEVON- technologies LLC really needs is an interface designer as every- thing is so home made as to make the product boring to view and use. Maybe the users/makers don't have an artistic bone it their bodies but if so - why not just use a PC ? Apple is about flair and ergonomic beauty through simplicity of design - yet this app from a design standpoint is so dull. Everything from script activation to file management is seemingly just plonked on with no final design - vision or project metaphor. Hire a designer or two, Apple did and look at their stock price right now. . [alert admin]

Mori 1.4 (Mac OS X)
Version 1.4 makes Mori is smarter and better looking! :) Well, the new Hog is certainly better looking than say Devonthink Pro but thats about it. Devonthink Pro is still the way to go. I think the price is too high and where are the upgrade price options on the home web page ? There should be a route for previous users to benefit from having helped the program along through so many debacles and u-turns. At the moment it looks too half-***ed. - Doesn't know if it wants to be database or a notebook There seems a confusing amount of 'bits' without any real gravitas to make a logical whole. Like the app it needs a mixed metaphor to explain it - 'Hopefully it will find it's pigeon hole and before the proverbial 'redundancy fox' eats it.' [alert admin]

shadowClipboard 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)
. Downloaded the new version 3.0.1 and at least it now installs OK - but install is all it does. It does not copy any text from safari into the application. I tried multiple times and it just doesn't work. It still phones home and there is no way to switch it off in the preferences. I have a pro Mac and an internet only iMac and a Powerbook - I am the only user of them but would have to buy three licenses ? That ain't right - I wouldn't purchase unless you have the ability for one single owner to have it on all their Macs. Not one license, one computer. The upgrade price is over half of the full price. Should be less than that - for the developer jumped from version 2.4 to 3 and no updates in a year and a half ? It doesn't crash now but it doesn't work either. The developer is a smart European, but is more conscious of his app being pirated than end user satisfaction or usability. This is negative minded programming and it shows. . [alert admin]

shadowClipboard 3.0 (Mac OS X)
. Paid for the last version and have not seen any updates in quite a while - 2.4 and then nothing for a year and half ? - Then version 3 springs from no where. I would like to give it a try but it phones home - if you stop it from doing so, it quits - It cannot launch without phoning home ? It may not not steal any personal info but still, I don't want it phoning home, it invades my privacy. The upgrade fee is three quarters of the full price ? What's with that ? Why fleece the guys and gals who helped you to begin with - bad PR. Not a happy customer/user of this software but then again maybe I'm just a stupid fish for buying in the first place. [alert admin]

AispireRenamer 0.9 (Mac OS X)
Rename that as 'AsfixiateRenamer' ![]()

. These Welsh developers have made a very easy to use tool to visually brake apart and then rename said files. While I would agree they should make some cash for their hard work - there are many freeware tools available and eight UK pounds sounds a little steep for this easy yet not particularly amazing renamer. If you could set up droplets to automate renaming or it were more 'Mac-lik'e in it's use and appearance maybe, but at this price and in this shape I would pass. Try and then donate to Mr.Peter Maurer File List - 1.2 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27090 [alert admin]

Google SketchUp 5.0.297 (Mac OS X)
Kudos to Google for releasing a freeware version of SketchUp. I've seen kids with no prior 3D experience pick this up in no time at all and get great results and have a lot of fun learning how to think in a new and exciting way. Great news for kids of all ages... [alert admin]

. So this new version has bugs ? Why release an application that has to phone home in the first place ? Please remove it. I have a pro Mac and an internet only iMac and a Powerbook - I am the only user of them but would have to buy three licenses ? That ain't right - Please add the ability for one single owner to have it on all their Macs. The price is not half, it's over half and should be even less…

Normal clock interface option!
. Thanks for the reply - sorry for being so curt in my initial review, I really want to use/buy your app, but I could also do with a normal 12/24 hour desktop clock with your excellent sizing options and maybe an alarm feature. When you are able to release a 'clocked-up' version - I'll buy it.

Konfabulator with a 'C' because I feel it's a 'con' that the developers of this made themselves a sweet deal, yet somehow forgot to get early supporters anything for their trust and loyalty from the company that just made another 500 million plus quarter. If they had said - what about our loyal user base how about giving them something for helping us out at the beginning to Yahoo - I would have had more respect for them. They have a history of just leaving…

"For Omniusers it's slow" was a title suggesting that SD 3 is taking it's time coming for Omniusers. If you read my review you might have noticed... "as an Omniweb 5.1 user I have yet to be able to test run speedownload" and it's not Omni's fault that a download manager doesn't work with it, it's the developers job if he has a tagline like yours: "Seamless integration with all popular Mac OS X browsers" A downloader that has the ability…

Buster boy, I am sorry you had this problem'o, While I have nothing to do with SS, I have heard the trouble with the latest iTunes release (4.7). You could try this: 1. Launch Terminal. It's located in /Applications/Utilities 2. Enter the following command: defaults delete com.unsanity.shapeshifter CustomSettings. Hint scooped from here: http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?s=803f9a974deeb865362a1df554f94b0e&threadid=233258 Hope it fixes what ails you...

You must be a big fan of Softchaos - 7 out of ten reviews you have written give the maximum five stars to softchoas products. Fan as we all know is an abbreviation of fanatic. IMHO, if there is an equal or better product available that you know of, you should mention it. I live in a democracy and believe monopolies to be wrong. The price for Webstractor is 49 english pounds which is $90 ( wed11Oct 2004) not $79 -…
