Eerk's iMetal 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
VT has habit of poorly screening submissions - although iMetal is a rare case where the product is good but on the wrong website. Usually VT fails to screen out junk. Regardless, iMetal should be on http://share.studio.adobe.com/ unless VT wants to be deluged with the 1000's of PS extras. [alert admin]

A well-conceived and designed CMM to speedily view PDF's; even the installer was intelligently designed. My only (admittedly, minor) complaint is that command-W does not close the window. [alert admin]

A very basic screensaver, but it does render quickly. [alert admin]

StuffIt Deluxe 8.0 (Mac OS X)

Expanding or compressing via the contextual menu plugin STILL causes StuffIt to completely takeover the Finder. This acknowledged problem has existed for years and should be a priority for Aladdin Systems to fix. The sparse additions in 8.0 are a pathetic showing. [alert admin]

Yet another useless joke (although that would erroneously imply that it actually made somebody laugh) app for testing my Empty Trash function. [alert admin]

Basic Black 1.0 (Mac OS X)
There are already several entries in the competitive field of black/blank screen savers, but the author of Basic Black must have figured that he/she had a better grasp of the black-out-screen concept. I compared BB against the others, and have to say that the blackness provided was certainly richer and blacker. Or perhaps it was all the red wine I had tonight. [alert admin]

Cocktail 2.5 (Mac OS X)
Aren't all good things are free?
For ten cheddars I'd rather buy two real cocktails to forget this miserable existence. Oh well. All good things also come to an end. [alert admin]

jBidWatcher 0.9.1 (Mac OS X)
Being a Java app, the UI is a tad rough, however, that is easy to overlook in exchange for a productive tool. Unfortunately, JBid did not snipe for me; it monitored the auction and then... did nothing. [alert admin]

If you can tolerate Gnutella, then this is a decent client. The GUI is not innovative by any means, and is a bit awkward in some areas. Overall, Acqlite seems similar to the other clients, although it is a step above sluggish dreck like Limewire. The iTunes integration is a nice touch, as well. [alert admin]

UnRarX - an excellent un-raring utility. Has drag & drop support, simple UI.

www.bsa.org - a terrorist organization funded by Adobe, Microsoft, Macromedia and the like; they are on a jihad to persecute, er, prosecute software pirates, usually through lobbying politicians to pass Orwellian laws like the DCMA.

"The stupidity of some people here amazes me." Really...? You're stupidity doesn't amaze me, but is rather trite and common.

Certainly I agree that support and stability are very important when judging a product, but they are not the only criteria. Considering the number of posts regarding the cost of BBEdit, I think it is clear that price is a serious consideration that extends beyond my own experiences. Indeed, even VT recognizes the importance of a product's price, by allowing users to give Price its own star rating when adding a Review.

True, I have never used a BeBox, and had only seen a video of them in action. I did, however, use the BeOS on Apple hardware (7500's and 9500's) and found it less than compelling. Not to mention that absolute dearth of software. Oh well, that is all long buried in the past along with Be itself.

I have read the newsgroup and it provides no details on your assertion; it merely expands on this baseless rumor. Furthermore, I don't believe the BSA is capable of "tracking" BT users, for it would not be possible due to BT's non-central server structure (unlike Napster, Hotline, Carracho, KDX, or IRC). This reeks of fear-mongering.

Yup. So, all these fax apps are doomed when Panther ships. Thankgod. Windoze 2K and XP Pro have faxing, so OSX needs it to be competitive.

Since the author claimed he wrote this dubious client "to provide a suitable IRC client for Mac OS X", it is reasonable, if not obvious, to compare it to the other clients.
