Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate 3 (Mac OS X)
Drop shadows not rendering properly on iWeb created sites.
PNG images containing dropshadows aren't rendering properly on pages created in iWeb when viewed with Firefox 3.5rcx. The dropshadow is displayed around the perimeter of the PNG image. This is fine until one employs a PNG image with a transparent region. Firefox 3.5rcx doesn't ignore the transparency when rendering dropshadows, resulting in boxy, picture frame shaped dropshadows. When viewed in Safari, those same PNG images will display the dropshadow behind only the nontransparent component, resulting in images with dropshadows resembling their visible shapes. Since iWeb's special effects rely extensively on the use of PNG files, sites created in iWeb may not look as intended when viewed using Firefox 3.5rcxx. I don't know whether iWeb or Firefox is to blame, but I do hope this is remedied soon. [alert admin]

Apple iDVD 7.0.4 (Mac OS X)
This update is clearly listed as requiring Mac OS X 10.5 on Versiontracker's site as well as Apple's. I am running OS 10.4.11, yet Software Update is prompting me to install it. Since iDVD was the only application that wasn't updated with the iLife '09 upgrade, will this version of iDVD work with iLife '08 and will it run under Tiger? I'm concerned I may experience problems if I run the update under these conditions. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 4.0b (Mac OS X)
Breaks iMovie '08 functionality and a 3rd party iTunes visualizer
Scrolling credits no longer worked in iMovie '08 after installing Safari 4.0b. After uninstalling it (reverting back to my previous version in the process) all is well again. Removing Safari 4.0b also cured another problem i was having with a 3rd party iTunes visualizer (iVisualize running NowPlaying_v1.1) which stopped displaying album art after I installed Safari 4.0b. PPC G5 2.3 DP running 10.4.11 ATI 9650 graphics card. [alert admin]

Apple iWeb 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Seems to fix a specific compatibility issue with Firefox 3. ![]()

With the release of Firefox 3, MobileMe/.mac photo albums created using iWeb wouldn't display properly when viewed with Firefox. After installing this update, and selecting the "Publish All to MobileMe" option, photo album functionality under Firefox 3 seems to be restored. Note: I tried republishing all under version 2.0.3, and the Firefox 3 compatibility issue still persisted, therefore I am assuming restored album functionality under Firefox 3 was one of the problems that version 2.0.4 addressed. Overall I've been very pleased with iWeb, though I would like to see a built in flash media player. I realize one can embed a YouTube video, but I was thinking more along the lines of self-contained player that is integrated with the application, and stores the media on one's iDisk as opposed to having to upload it to YouTube. I'm sure there are ways to accomplish this, but I'd like to see it implemented on a more user-friendly level. My other complaint is that the "Font" window is separate from the "Inspector" window. It's annoying to chose a font in one window yet adjust the font alignment and spacing in another. It can clutter the desktop very quickly, especially if one is using a smaller screen. In future releases I'd like to see these merged into just one "Inspector" window. Despite my minor quibbles, this is a very intuitive application, that generally meets or exceeds my needs. RADMovieTimes - is one of the few widgets that I actually use. I was disappointed when it just stopped working a few months ago. With the release of 1.6 RADMovieTimes is functional again. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.2.2 (Mac OS X)
Eject key not working after 2.2.2 update. ![]()

I am using a Logitech S530 wireless keyboard. After applying the update, I lost the eject button functionality. Instead of ejecting, the CD tray, Dashboard was immediately launched. I should note that I have two external firewire CD/DVD drives hooked up to my computer and am running OS 10.4.10 (G5 2.3 dual processor tower with 2GB of RAM). I did an uninstall of the previous version prior to installing 2.2.2. After discovering the glitch, I also tried repairing permissions, and trashing the plist files. That didn't solve the problem. I remapped the Dashboard key from F12 to F7. That stopped Dashboard from launching when the eject button was pressed but the eject button still wouldn't eject the tray. I uninstalled 2.2.2 and reverted back the the previous version. Everything works fine now. My advise, hold off on this update. [alert admin]
