Acquisition 117.2 (Mac OS X)

Still unstable- but still the best!

It is jittery and totally unstable. I sometimes run Limewire, Cabos and Acquisiton simultaneously to see which program gets the really hard-to-find tunes, and it is not even close: Acquisition pulls those rare gems out of nowhere, while Cabos and Limewire go chug chug chuggin along. But I have to keep force-quitting and restarting it over and over, because it goes down ALL THE TIME and frequently! I still prefer it over all the others out there; there is no contest here: if you are looking to download a particular song, this is the product to use- even as unstable as it is. When they correct that problem, Acquisition gets 5 stars- until then: 4. By the way, I have a Mac G5 Panther 10.3.8   [alert admin]

Acquisition 117.2 (Mac OS X)

Caveat Emptor: Buyer Beware!

The guy's motto is, " Support people, not corporations" but at least corporations give you tech support, or at the very least, a way to reach them for support questions. This guy took my money- and even though I have sent him e-mail after e-mail that my program keeps quitting every five minutes; all I keep getting is auto responses. [alert admin]

FTP Thingy 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Love it - BUT

There is absolutely no help or customer support, and they don't even have the courtesy to tell you what version you currently have, so you have to jump thru all kinds of hoops to find out. boo [alert admin]

iChat2Cell 1.01 (Mac OS X)

never had a problem until I installed this program

Good news: It works great, and really keeps you in touch and always accessible. Bad news: It always keeps you in touch and accessible. Once I bought this program, I found that everyone was text-messaging me all the time (When my computer is turned off, my normal Instant Messaging iChat NEVER TURNS ME TOTALLY OFF. Example: When I shut down the computer, iChat shows a telephone-icon that allows people to IM me anyway!) I e-mailed several times for iChat2Cell support, and was told that the best way to solve the problem is to pay the few xtra bucks a month to the cellphone company to have text messages be free. Problem is, I don't want to be getting text messages all day long on my cell phone, and there doesn't seem to be any practical way to close the floodgates. [alert admin]

FTP Thingy 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Finally

After months of trying to make Fetch work properly, this simple FTP program is a welcome blessing. I don't have the need to do any complex stuff- just post a song or a .gif or movie to my blog every now and then. With Fetch, it was always hit or miss; with this "Thingy" it works right the first time and all the time. [alert admin]

LimeWire X 4.0.8 (Mac OS X)

get limewire pro

everytime Limewire starts up, I get the dialogue box asking me to try Limewire PRO. What's up with that? Isn't the 4.0.8 the highest Limewire, even though it doesn't say "Pro?" If not, I am already a paid customer. How do I get this elusive "Pro?" [alert admin]

FaxCenter 1.2.1 build 6 (Mac OS X)

BUYERS BEWARE!!!

If you are like me, when you download a product that looks cool, the most important thing you check out before beginning the download is whether or not the software is even compatible with OSX. Well, you ALSO might want to ask whether this product even works with high-speed cable, because it DOESN'T- and I couldn't find anywhere on this download page a warning that said, "Does not operate with Road Runner and high speed connections." When I tried to get my money back, the Dude Ben said he doesn't give refunds for "opened software". So, don't do what I did and buy this product without the trial period just because the reviews gave it four stars. Try it out first- They say it works if you have a phone cable hooked up to your machine's internal modem, since faxing doesn't rely on internet connections- but I should have been told this in front. I'll wait until Panther comes out- the Mail program will have faxing capability. [alert admin]

What happens to the bad reviews?

Are all these great 5 star ratings below just shameless hype from company lackeys?? I agree with the_proton. Oops- Guess what? the_Proton's negative review mysteriously disappeared. (I'm thinking SD is getting greedy and evil) [alert admin]

Acquisition crashing my computer

I have had the same problem since I started using it. I bought it anyway, because it seems to work better than any of the others. Hopefully, some day they will address and fix the problem.

The dialogue box that won't go away

Hey- I NEVER gave this sucker FOUR stars..and now I can't even change my own comment! I want to give it two stars because it would probably be great if i could get it to work, and if I could upgrade the thing the way one normally upgrades, and if I could get some support and if I could edit my own original comment!
