Nikon PictureProject 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Answers to some questions

Question: What's are the advantages, if any, of PictureProject over iPhoto 4?

PictureProject works with Nikon NEF (RAW) images for all of Nikon's cameras.
Keyword editing and organization - PictureProject lets you assign keywords to images and also sort images by keyword. Incidentally, this will work seemlessly with Tiger's Spotlight technology.
PictureProject lets you organize your pictures into folders and subfolders, iPhoto 4 doesn't allow you to create subfolders (though iPhoto 5 is supposed to add this).
PictureProject has a Panorama maker for stitching multiple images into a single, large panorama (though it looks like a bad Windows port).
PictureProject supports non-destructive image editing - the original image is always preserved no matter what you do to it.

3. Unlike iPhoto, when you make adjustments [brightness, effects, etc] the original file is changed, not a copy of it.

This is both true and false. PictureProject always preserves the original image data. The way it does this is by saving the modified images in the same file as the original image. So if you have modified an image both the original image data and the modified image data are saved in the same image.

IS the Mac version the same as the PC?

Yes, the Mac version is pretty much the same as the PC version. [alert admin]

Rendezvous Browser 1.5.1 (Mac OS X)

Indespensible tool!

This is a great tool for developers and power users alike. This is exactly what you need for debugging and discovering Rendezvous service. And the price is right too! ;) [alert admin]

LockPopCM 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Works great!

This is just what I was looking for. It makes it much easier to lock or unlock files. All you need to do is right-click and select lock or unlock. I'd have written it myself if I hadn't found it, but this does just what I want it to. I only wish there was an option to recursively lock and unlock all of the files in a folder and its subfolders. Diff'npatch 1.4.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Does a pretty good job

If you need to make a .patch to submit to a project then it does the job. The interface seems to be overloaded with features though and it isn't very intuitive to use. If you want to compare two files side by side, then use FileMerge. If you need to create a patch, this will get the job done. [alert admin]

Apple CHUD Tools 3.0.4 (Mac OS X)

CHUD is priceless!

These are the best set of performance tools that money can't buy. Shark is the best profiler that I have ever used and blows the socks off of Metrowerks' $3000 CodeTEST product. I just got back from an Apple performance workshop where they showed us how to use their tools and they are by far the best kept secret of Mac OS X development. Shark (the profiler) will integrate with your application's source code (assuming debugging symbols are turned on) with both Mach-o and CFM (Shark used to not work with CFM, but the latest versions do). It lets you know when you've caused the processor to stall, when you're data is not aligned, etc. and it tells you how to fix it! Apple could easily charge $1000 for these tools and they would be worth every penny. The fact that they are free is a testament to Apple's devotion to providing developers with the best tools that are available. [alert admin]

CarbonErrors 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Works great!

This little app works just as it's described. It gets the error codes and descriptions directly from MacErrors.h which defines the error codes for the Mac platform. So if there is no description in MacErrors.h then the app doesn't provide one. It's a great time saver for a developer wondering what that error number that was just returned means. [alert admin]

HyperSpell 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Control-click to check spelling...

norte1, If you want to check the spelling then you need to control-click (or right-click) on the misspelled word. This will bring up a list of suggestions. This is the same way that the built-in spellchecker for Mac OS X works. I am, however, planning in future versions to automatically show the list of suggestions when you select a misspelled word. PS I was able to fix the download link for OmniWeb users. If anyone was having download problems before (any releases before 1.0) then they should try again. Dave [alert admin]

HyperSpell 1.0 RC 1 (Mac OS X)

The link works...

eux, the link does work, however there are some instances where a browser may get confused. The link is to a Mac Binary (.bin) file and my server returns the proper MIME type, however the file downloaded does not have an extension. I've tested it with the major browsers (Safari, IE, and Camino/Mozilla) and they all download it and decode it properly. Some people have had problems with Speed Download 2, and I just tried it without success with OmniWeb 4.5.

If you are having problems then rename the file downloaded to HyperSpell.bin and then open it. It should open with Stuffit Expander, then with Disc Copy (it's an encoded .dmg file).

Please email me with any problems.

Website and links are back

The website is back up and running and the links should be working again. Development on a new version of HyperSpell continues and a Universal beta should hopefully be released soon. I'm not aware of any problems with the recent security update. If you would email me about your problem then hopefully we can get it resolved. Dave

Not working well for me...

I have tried both v1.2 and 1.3b1 and in both, when it looks through a paragraph of text imported from the clipboard, it ONLY identifies the first misspelled word and ignores all the rest. I have purposely misspelled a bunch of words and it only flags the first one. If I double click on a mispelled word that it had not flagged, it then underlines it in red, and right clicking offers correction suggestions, but…
