Apple Xgrid Technology Preview 2 (Mac OS X)

X-grid for the rest of us.

In short, this aint it! Yet. Technology Preview 2 reminds me of the very first preview of OS X. It was really unixy and clunky. And we just knew it was going to grow into a beautiful thing. And sure enough, it did. I agree with the reviews so far. Leave it to the Unix guys to "preview" it and work out the kinks. For the rest of us, have faith. Before you know it, we'll all be running PhotoShop filters or compressing DVD Studio files on clusters made up of all the older Macs we have sitting around. Oh, wait. Was I dreaming? Where am I? FileMaker Pro Server X 5.5v4 (Mac OS X)

DO NOT INSTALL !!!!!

This cannot be emphasized enough! DO NOT INSTALL! How can FileMaker possibly think this is an update? This is the dictionary definition of downdate. Actually, the software itself may be fine. But would it kill them to hire one guy (or girl) who can write an installer correctly? [alert admin]

QuarkXPress 6.0 (Mac OS X)

The end of Quark

Have been using Quark 6 for a FULL DAY now and feel more than qualified to say that version 6 most definitely represents the end of Quark on the Mac. In the simplest terms, "We waited two years for this?" Version 6 is VERY sluggish and quite buggy. Doesn't open some of my legacy documents, and several of the standard features that I used frequently in version 5 are gone. For example, now instead of Open Publisher you have to DOWNLOAD an extension called "Edit Original" just to be able to double-click a picture and have it open in PhotoShop. They call this progress? And don't even get me started about the insanely complex registration and validation procedure. Good Bye Quark. You've secured InDesign's success with your "version 6". [alert admin]

Connectix Virtual PC 6.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I too am…

very disappointed to still NOT have HASP or dongle support. VPC is still slowly improving, but without true HASP driver loading, we still have to have f*****g windows machines. And that sucks as much as VPC. Come on Connectix. How hard can it be? [alert admin]

QuarkXPress 5.01 (Mac OS 9)

I agree with…

everyone so far. Editor, you want a review of just this update? O.K. Here it is: Still no OSX? Zero stars. Period. There's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Adobe InDesign. [alert admin]
