VectorWorks 2008sp3 (Mac OS X)
I'd like to know what's new/changed before I update such a mission critical app. Except for a download link in support, there's not even a mention of this update on their site, let alone a change log. Sloppy. [alert admin]

GrowlCamino 1.6 (Mac OS X)
A great addition to Camino and a definite improvement over the standard behavior. The simplicity does result in less flexible control mechanism for popups (as it hides hose allow once-never-always buttons). It would be nice if clicking the popup blocked message, could at least show me the popup, much like clicking the download finished message opens the downloaded file. [alert admin]

I've been willing to give the Mac BU the benefit of the doubt, and Office 2004, while far from great, is an Ok product, but this new 2008 version is a crying shame. How an intel native product manages to be noticeably slower than the previous version running in Rosetta emulation is beyond me. And don't tell it's my machine, because I have seen this slowness on several different machines. PPC machines crawl as well. And I'm not alone, it's all over the web. It's not just the startup times either, calculations in excel, even the simplest of charts take much longer to create. So save your money people. Unless all you do is look at an office product, this new version has little benefit and will actually slow you down. [alert admin]

iScroll2 0.30 (Mac OS X)
no more manually enabling iScroll after a restart. Seems to be working fine again on a PowerBook 12" 1.33. Thank you! [alert admin]

Apple Login & Keychain Update 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Apple's new update scheme is annoying. It installs as normal through software update. I was reading up on some stuff online, so I selected 'restart: not now' Sometime later I restart, screen goes blue and all of a sudden my Mac tells me there is new software for me to install, and do I want to do this now or just restart. wtf? I already told if to install, why is it bothering me with this again? I click install, it does its thing and it pops up another message, telling me it will be updating boot caches now. wtf, would you just restart already, what is this, Windows? Leopard is nice so far, esthetic issues aside, but this did not impress me. [alert admin]

Adobe InDesign CS3 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Is there a save as CS2 option yet? If not, upgrading to CS3 continues to be a real problem. I don't know about Adobe, but I live in a world where I work together with other people/businesses. There's no way I can expect all of them to always have the latest version. [alert admin]

Netscape X 9.0rc1 (Mac OS X)
It's pretty fast, it looks pretty good and has a few of unique features. Unfortunately, it stops doing anything when I pop up a menu. Pages stop loading, animated images stop plating etc. Reminds one of OS 9. It's either a bug or pretty sloppy programming on Netscape's part. [alert admin]

Opera 9.22 (Mac OS X)
this damn browser keeps taking over my "open url in [default browser]" service. No matter what my default browser, as soon as I install this, any highlighted link will open in Opera when I press apple-shift-u. Very annoying, because this browser really isn't very good at at all, and even worse to look at. Now there's two instances of this thing in the new CS3 suite, I had to go into the Bridge and Device Central apps in CS3 to remove the darn things and get my workflow back. [alert admin]

Transmission 0.72 (Mac OS X)
0.6 was already my default torrent client, and the new 0.7.x are so much better yet. I do use Azureus at times when decentralized tracking helps or I only want a small subset of the download, but only if I have to. [alert admin]

while I agree the "me" monicker is a horrible, horrible choice, the new interface is actually an improvement. At least we can keep using our mac.com addresses. I'd be nice, though I doubt it, that idisk.mac/[your name]-public and mac.galleries will keep working.

I think it might be because secure delete overwrites the now free space on the HD eleven times to prevent data rescue apps from restoring the file.

10.5 is much better than 10.4 in every way except for repairing permissions. People who repair permissions obsessively are missing out on a lot of refinement...

on the other had, if as you say, all you use it for is file sharing and serving iTunes, why did you invest in Leopard in the first place? Or are you complaining about a product you didn't even pay for? If you turn on remote desktop and file sharing in Tiger, you can file share and control the screen form any Leopard Mac just the same as if your G4 was running Leopard.

give me a break. Even Apple's most up to date version of OS X, 10.5 Leopard, won't run on hardware that old. If you do not want or are not able to keep your hardware up to date, why do you expect to be able to keep up on the software side? I guess you believe every site on the internet should be optimized for 56k connections too?

It's not an actual build, it's just the source code, you'd have to compile it yourself. Without a proper build, this has no business being posted on VT. You can download a compiled build from here: http://www.haque.net/software/mplayer/mplayerosx/builds/

I'm sorry, but that just is not true. I already pressed install. AFTER it finished installing, it asked me wether I wanted to restart now or later. So I said not now. I don't think it is logical for OS X to ask on restart wether I want to install the exact same thing I already granted Installer.app permission to install.
