Cooliris for Safari 1.11.3 (Mac OS X)

Don't get your hopes up

This version is for Snow Leopard, but it requires Safari to boot in 32 bit mode. [alert admin]

HandBrake 0.9.3 (Mac OS X)

All the complaining aside...

The new version produces noticeably better results. I tested a DVD last night (took forever to actually get working, but once it did... good things) using the old & new Apple Universal presets. The old one produced a file of 1.98 GB at 2851 kbits/s, and the new one a file of 1.16 GB at 1667 kbits/s (using the new psychovisual settings). The smaller file looks FAR better. Detail that was smoothed out in 0.9.2 was surprisingly crisp and clear in the new version (I could see freckles on an actress' face that were completely blurred in the higher bitrate version). Adobe Flash Player 10.0.0.536 (Mac OS X)

Works well

It's definitely less intensive on the CPU than older versions, and it works well on all the sites that detect it properly. Many sites are still checking for version 9 and just won't run when they see 10 (like cnn.com as far as I can tell). YouTube works perfectly though, so I'm not sure why others are having such a hard time. [alert admin]

Ummm

It should be cheap. It's changing to lines in a prefs file. Detailed info on doing it yourself is here: http://mobile.feisar.com/addressbook.html [alert admin]

Apple Aperture 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Better & Better

It's now clearly best-of-breed, and the plugin architecture is the start of great things. Still take a really good machine to make it sing. Makes me really happy I have it after a long photoshoot. [alert admin]

Zinio 2.1.4030 (Mac OS X)

Still Remarkably Unstable

Been using this since it came out with mixed results. It's terribly un-Mac-like and one full version behind its Windows counterpart. This version is quite unstable as well. More often than not, when I open a magazine, I get an empty window. If I quit and restart, the magazine appears. The maximize window button has never worked properly. You still can't change the location of your magazines, and it rudely dumps them in a folder in your home directory. I submitted all these bugs when it first came out... Hopefully we get the full redesign the PC version did. [alert admin]

Skype 0.14.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Getting better.

The software is progressing nicely. They really need to improve their $ transaction abilities though. It's a bit of a mess right now, and they readily admit to it. No Amex, no foreign currencies, no paypal (but they do have Moneybookers, which no one in NA uses). Using a US/Can credit card, you really get screwed when making a Euro purchase. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Holy crap, this is bad!

Yes, now Accelerated Scroll seems completely dead on all mice on both machines I have (as mentioned below). If you switch it to normal scroll, it will work. And this little gem is in the Read Me: Q: My LCC settings are gone after switching user with "Fast User Switching", what happened? A: LCC does not support "Fast User Switching". In order to enjoy the different LCC configurations for multiple users, one has to log out and log in the system instead of using "Fast User Switching" Just great. [alert admin]

SightSaver 0.1 (Mac OS X)

Good start.

Some options for other shapes would be good. Cube or something that makes the image slightly less distorted. [alert admin]

Who the hell is leading this project?

Indeed. It's annoying that it won't let you specify where VLC is (you MUST have it in /Applications. It doesn't even look in the current directory. And I haven't been able to get this version to even finish scanning a DVD (on a new MBP). It just doesn't work at all. Disappointing.

Contextual menus slow.

Same here. They actually don't show up until I left click somewhere else. Scanning via iSight seems to have been killed with this update as well. Anyone else seeing that?

Is this better thatn iChat AV?

Sound quality isn't as good as iChat yet. I've had some weirdness on various calls--lots of background noise, while the next call had none. The big benefit of this over iChat is that (for a price) you can call a regular phone...
