Apple Security Update 2004-12-02 (Mac OS X)
This update isn't supposed to address the Safari stalls...
This update isn't aimed at fixing the Safari stalls, nor does it update any of the files known to cause the Safari stalls. If you experience less Safari "cannot connect to server" messages after installing this update, it's purely coincidental. It's the unreleased 10.3.7 update, not this update, that has the fixes to the BIND configuration and files that address, specifically, the Safari "cannot connect to server" errors. If you thought the Safari errors would disappear with this update, you were mistaken. None of the fixes listed for this update have anything to do with Safari's "cannot connect to server" error. Toast Titanium 6.0.7 (Mac OS X)
If you would have actually tried to register at Roxio's site, you would see that a serial number from Toast is required to create the account necessary to download the update. So, no, it's not just your email address they want. They want to validate that you have a legitimate license for their software. [alert admin]

Ipanema 1.4 (Mac OS X)
Wonderful! I have it set on an OS X Server box serving me my FTP, VPN, ssh, telnet, www and QTSS services on a dynamic DSL connection (3.0m/384k) and it's a lifesaver to be able to check hotmail to see where my server is at the moment. The only gripe, and it's a big gripe for me, is that this sucker consumes processor cycles like it's starving. I run it on an old 7600/400MHz G3 machine with a bunch of RAM, and Ipanema consumes a constant 40% all the time. For a server that's already running on sub-par equipment, processor cycles are a precious commodity. For an application that reports IP addresses once every 10 minutes, 40% is 35% too high. Fonts are used by designers...
...true, but font tools to create and modify fonts are used by developers. If you're a designer, there's no need to go mucking around with these tools modifying your fonts. You know from being a designer that modifying a font can have unexpected results when your design is presented on a different machine. It's a developer's tool; that's why it's hosted on Apple's developer site. [alert admin]

HandBrake 0.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Are you kidding me?! I've searched far and wide for an application that would allow me to rip my DVDs into some kind of QuickTime-compatible format for easy off-line viewing. This app does it all and then some. With one click I can strip a DVD of the useless menu features and rip a DVD to an MPEG4. With a video setting of 1024kbps and audio at 160kbps, I end up with an MPEG4 file about 1.5GB in size and it plays perfectly, even on an old G4/400MHz machine like mine. Sure, it takes about 6 - 8 hours to rip an entire DVD, but it's a "set it and forget it" application and runs all night without a hitch to produce a clean MPEG4 file for me. Kudos to the developer. He'll be receiving my donation shortly. I'd still like to know the legality of an application like this, but for the time being, for personal use, I don't think I'm breaking any laws. A wonderful application. [alert admin]

Rebuild the desktop? Exactly how long have you been using OS X? I sure hope you're not one of the programmers -- surely they would not suggest rebuilding the OS X desktop. [alert admin]

Cocktail 2.6 (Mac OS X)
" I'm off to pay this guy his poultry $10.00 and to thank him for developing for the Mac!" Poultry? You mean like chicken cash? Hehe... are you trying to say "paltry?" Anyways, give this man some credit and cash. He made a damn good utility in his own time, sweat, blood and tears, and it works great. Does more than a lot of other higher-priced pieces of software. Go give him $10. What else are you gonna spend it on? [alert admin]

QuickVoice X 1.7.2 (Mac OS X)
Yeah, it's faster to or record the voice email rather than to physically type an email, but then the recipient is forced to read (rather, listen) to the message at the speed it was recorded at -- unfortunately, people read many, many times faster than they speak, so the bottleneck would just be passed on to another person. Doesn't really speed anything up. [alert admin]

Microsoft Virtual PC 6.1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
There are new and updated Virtual PC Additions as well, could this account for the "speed increase" some are experiencing? [alert admin]

If you like the iPhone app, DO NOT upgrade to 2.2
This update to the desktop version of Delicious Library does NOT remove the app from your iPhone -- it is impossible for a 3rd-party piece of software to remove an app from your iPhone. Only iTunes can remove an app from your iPhone. I have updated to Library 2.2 and it still syncs just fine with my iPhone app.
