phpMyAdmin 2.11.8.1 (Mac OS X)
I'm mainly writing this to offset the other person's opinion that phpMyAdmin is difficult to set up or that it doesn't work. The truth is that if you are at all familiar with PHP and SQL this is a breeze to set up. It requires rock bottom beginner level understanding of both to setup and even less to use. It works very well and improves greatly with each version. phpMyAdmin is used by tons of web hosts because it is so easy to use. I highly recommend it. [alert admin]

Genius 1.7.250 (Mac OS X)
In Japanese Genius Accepts MANY Incorrect Answers ![]()

Genius is good, but NOT suitable for Japanese study. I'm studying Japanese and found a HUGE bug. So the flash card shows me "毎" and I should have to type "まい every" however Genius will accept any character in the same column. So while まい (mai) is the right answer it will accept かい (kai) ない (nai) たい (tai) and so on. This is 100% reproducible and deadly because it nullifies the usefulness of the app. If this was fixed I would be in heaven. I really do love Genius, but now I have to go back and make sure I haven't been practicing the wrong answers. [alert admin]

JobTimer 2.3 (Mac OS X)
Anyone considering paying for this so-so looking app should consider trying <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27962">WorkTimer</a> first. I've been using it for a few years now, it is simple, no frills, and works perfectly every time. And as a bonus is is FREE [alert admin]

Cyberduck 3.0b3 (Mac OS X)
I've donated to this project. Not only is it a great free application, it is great application. I've tried Fugu, Fetch, Transmit— none of them make me as happy as CyberDuck. There was a version that had a couple bugs, but the developer works hard and fixed them pretty quickly. I recommend CyberDuck completely. [alert admin]

Bean 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Bean is great. I write a lot and I don't like the clutter and bulk of applications like Word. I love the easy and quickness of Bean. I also love that it has full screen. The author claims it isn't a replacement for word. I disagree though. It does replace Word. Word was only ever good for simple text editing Word isn't suitable for the advanced things it tries to do. For serious complex layout a person should be using something like inDesign or LaTex. What's more no one should ever, for any reason, save in .doc format (it is neither archival nor transportable) so .doc isn't important. [alert admin]

hs_NonProfit 1.2 (Mac OS X)
$375/month is completely unreasonable. You can hire a good web developer and get a much better web app for much less. I'd definitely look at all your options before going with an expensive product that you are just renting. Also, keep in mind that the data you put in might not come out (depending on the format) which means you could be locked into this pricey monster. [alert admin]

YemuZip 2.2.3 (Mac OS X)
mac already does this built-in
"YemuZip does not yet handle resource forks" hmm... so then control-click -> "compress" is a way better and built in way to zip files (with no ads). Lack of resource forks can actually mean small headaches. [alert admin]

Wow... you clearly shouldn't be using any SQL at all. This is incredibly simple to use and install. I'm not a Unix geek and I got it together no problem. If you can't figure this out then whatever you are using SQL for is probably wrong. You don't need it.

Not good! Download problems, crashes
They can't include lame.lib for licensing reasons. Don't hold copyright laws against them, it's beyond their control. Or would you rather pay for Audacity? And lame.lib is *really* easy to install. Just download the file and point audacity towards it when it asks. If you can't handle something that simple you'd be better off using something easy like quicktime or garage band. And I'd just like to add in my three…

No installer? I think you are really confused. You just download, open the disk image, and drop the application in your "applications" folder.
I used CyberDuck 3.0.1 today for several hours. No problems. None at all.
Also, why did you bother rating the application if you can't figure out how to "install" it? I'd understand if you tried for days to get this to work, but since 3.0.1 just came…

"Don't listen to the riff raff trolls that spend more time on download websites than actually working, try it for yourself." hmm.... this was a same basic comment that one of the developers made to me when I posted a negative review on macupdate (http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=12276&pid=168463) I doubt the link will make it through but check it out. This post is almost positively fake. Do you want to do business with a company like that?

Developer's obvious disinterest
cavalier: showing a lack of proper concern; offhand. It isn't cavalier at all. The post says that it is safe to use, but that some features don't work. That means was tested. Now, your review *was* cavalier.

I always wonder about posts like these. Most people don't have problems with security updates— in fact a security update has never once in my many years as a Mac user caused anything I'd call a catastrophe. I think once there was a small glitch, but it was fixed pretty quickly. The worse thing to happen ever was the crappy 10.4.10 update that made my Mac unable to connect to my router, but even that…
