Mac Restart X 1.4 (Mac OS X)

$20? Way too much.

It seems like a nice little app that does a few more things than the built-in scheduled restart feature you find in the Energy Saver control panel. However, $20 is waaaaay too much to charge for it. $3 or $4 maybe, but $20? No way. [alert admin]

A Better Finder Rename X 8.16 (Mac OS X)

Oops! Crash with noew version 8.16

MBP OSX 10.5.6, moved from ABFRX 8.15 to 8.16 -> no problem PowerMac G5 OSX 10.5.6, move from ABFRX 8.15 to 8.16 -> immediate crash upon launch OH THE HUMANTIY AGgghhhh! However, if I do a "Get Info" on ABFRX and turn on "Open in 32 bit mode" it seems to launch and operate fine, so I guess it has something to do with 64-bit mode on PPC machines. [alert admin]

Senuti 0.50.6 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't make much sense...

Question: Why would I pay for software that is still technically in BETA? Answer: I wouldn't. [alert admin]

iClip Lyrics 1.3 (Mac OS X)

Pretty handy, I like it

I like it, and it's super quick too. A few things though: 1. Why the strange arbitrary limit on how wide and long the window can be resized? 2. Sometimes when it does its thing and adds lyrics, the iTunes playback gets interrupted for about a second. I'm guessing iClip is writing to the file while iTunes is trying to read some of it? It's weird that it only happens once in a while 3. I'm not sure of the point of the slide-open clipboard thing, when you can just copy and paste stuff right into the main window. 4. It would be nice if you had the option of not automatically writing the lyrics to the song file right away, so you could take a look to make sure they're ok before putting them into the file. I know you can just hit the X button to remove them from the file, but then the file's been written to twice, and devices like ipods and such will RE-copy the file upon next sync, since they think the file has changed, even though it actually hasn't. 5. It'd also be nice it the app could remember the setting of "Keep iClip Lyrics On Top" between launches. I know that looks like a lot of stuff, but all in all I think it's a really handy app that does it's thing without much intervention when you're lilstening to tunes while doing something else, like working on a document or browsing the web, etc. [alert admin]

VMware Fusion 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Working well for me

I've had better luck with VMWare Fusion than Parallels as well. However, I'm not really doing anything super intense, or 3rd party HW driver related, or the like. My stuff is all app level stuff, only accessing the usual HW: drives, USB stuff, printers, network, etc. [alert admin]

TiVoDecode Manager 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Leopard usage - Solution

This may not fix everyone's problems using tivodecode manager with Leopard, but I was having the same problem as several of you, with failed downloads looping over and over. I figured out that leopard's firewall, which is a lot different than Tiger's firewall, was not doing the usual thing and asking you if you wanted to allow tivodecode manager to accept incoming connection. I set the firewall to explicitly allow tivodecode manager to receive incoming connections, and then it worked fine. To try this, go to System Prefs > Security > Firewall tab, select the bottom choice "set access for specific services and applications", click the plus to add a new app to the list, naviogate to and select tivodecode manager, and make sure it's in the list and set to "allow incoming connections". You could also set the whole firewall to "allow all incoming connections" but then you've essentially turned off your firewall. Hope this helps somebody... - JonYo [alert admin]

Default Folder X 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Great app, but the price is waaaay too high

I used to use Default Folder way back in the OS9 days, and it was great then. I kinda of forgot about it during my transaition to OSX several years abck. I recently tried it out under OSX for the first time, and I think it's safe to say it's still a great utility, well thought out for usability over eye candy and all that, and perfectly stable during my short period of testing. However, the price of $35 is pretty over the top for a GUI-helper utility such as this. Maybe I'd pay $15, but $35? No, sorry, that's just too much for what DF does. Just my opinion, so, no flames please! - JonYo [alert admin]

TypeAgent 2.0 (Mac OS X)

This is totally fraudulent.

I have no idea if this software is any good or not, as I have not tried it. So, I won't rate it. However, while I was looking into it with intention of trying it out, I discovered that the person above, Andrew Kole, who left a very positive review of the software, actually WORKS for the company that makes it! I'm not sure in what capacity, nor how big the company is, so he could be anything from one employee of many to the developer himself in a one-man operation. It doesn't matter, either way, posting glowing reviews of your OWN software in away that is clearly trying to avoid revealing that you are NOT an unbiased customer is plain DECEITFUL and WRONG. After discovering this connection betweem Andrew Kole and the TypeAgent product, I didn't even bother trying the product out, as I kew I would never pay a dime to a compnay who uses such fraudulent tactics. I recommend that whoever reads this does not download the demo or purchase this product. Wrong is wrong... [alert admin]

Permissions - lots of permission problems

It doesn't necessarily mean there's any problem. It's not that unusual for the info that the disk utility reads for permissions "repair" (it's really more of a "reset") to be rearranged (and not necessarily changed) after an OS update. If it shows a bunch of permissions repairs, but ends with the usual "premissions repaired successfully" message then I doubt there's anything to worry about.

Ban_This is a perfect jerk, and WRONG

I'm not connected with the makers of CCC, and YOU'RE wrong. You have a lot of whiny rage considering you DON'T USE THE PRODUCT and your last experience with the product was, in your own words, years ago.

Re: Hilarious!

I'm a lifelong Mac user, and I think this is a great idea. I always like my Safari window to use the entire screen for maximum browsing space. Just because it's window behavior that you don't prefer, doesn't make it stupid.

Why MacBookAir Only???

You can already do that with OSX 10.5, just go to the Sharing prefs panel, and it's right there at the top of the list, "CD or DVD Sharing". What this download is for is to enable another computer's CD/DVD drive to be used for installing and/or restoring the OS on the MacBook Air, which only the MacBook Air can do. If you don't have a MacBook Air, there's no point in installing this on…

Leopard usage - Solution

Oops, I spoke too soon. If I select a show and click Download & Decode Show, it seems to work. However, if I use the Add Show To Queue, even if it's only 1 show, and then click Download & Decode Queue, then the same problems occur.
