CK's Text-to-Speech to MP3 0.9.3 (Mac OS X)
As a doctoral student, this little set of applescripts is a dream come true. We have to read a lot for our courses. I also work full-time as a consultant and must drive around VT and MA for work and practicum. Now my time in my car can be put to constructive use. A PC friend showed me a cross-platform program that I stupidly bought based upon a demonstration of her PC app. The Mac version was a watered down, inadequate pos--lesson learned the hard way. I have yet to use the most recent version, but it appears to have even more options than before!, I just installed it now, and will be using it later today. And it's free. Thank you.l [alert admin]

It works better than Natural Reader for Mac ($69.50)... ![]()

As a doctoral student, I never have enough time to read my assignments. A PC friend recommended Natural Reader which comes in 5 PC versions and 2 Mac versions (naturally). I watched/listened to hers, bought it, and it would not convert to mp3--just hangs. Too many stupid steps for something that didn't work, that cost a criminal amount of money. My wife found this, and it worked great the first time, and continues whether it is converting from your clipboard, text file, or Safari web page. Now I copy the converted file to iTunes, load it into a playlist for school readings, and listen to reading assignments being read aloud. I also have Cepstral voices, so they sound very human. Thank you, Charles Kelly.... [alert admin]

Gamepedia 4.5.1 (Mac OS X)
set it up so it will keep all your iPhone apps also? My gaming days on computers and consoles has faded, but I have a ton of stuff on my iPhone. I have the other 3 apps and prefer them to any alternatives. [alert admin]

Sente 5.7.4 (Mac OS X)
Why isn't VT up-to-date? Go to developer's site for current download. Version 6 is in Beta. With that paid upgrade, there will be better access to your linked pdfs when you sync between multiple computers. (Sente allows up to 3 computers on 1 license for the mobile student/researcher). Great app! With this app and Adobe Acrobat Pro, I can find just about anything I need for my research. I make sure all downloaded, associated, linked pdfs are ocr'ed via Acrobat. I can do a search within my entire library in Sente, or specific collections. From the identified citations, I can then open up the pdf(s) and search individually, or within a folder of pdfs, for specific terms/phrases within the pdf articles. Sente inserts the citation in your document where you specify, using the format you specify--such as APA 5. If you cut and paste and move stuff around in your article, it will automatically refresh so the format of the citation is correct. When the paper is complete, I “refresh” Sente once from the menu and then turn refresh off. I double check any specific page references made it through the refresh. I scroll down to the designated place in my paper for references and choose “insert bibliography.” It cranks it out. What a timesaver! It is possible to currently sync among your computers, there is just a two step process you need to know to do it correctly so that you can open pdfs in the other computers. See the forums on the site, or contact the developer. Very helpful person. I export my citations from my research library via the Endnote format, but several others possible, and then import into my collection(s). Everything comes through. BTW, discounted price for students... As a doctoral student I paid $69. Check out the price for Endnote for PC.... $250. And Sente if a better program to boot. [alert admin]

CopyPaste + yType 2.02 (Mac OS X)
Hi! I've been using CopyPaste Pro since OS 9 in all it's various revisions. Each time I've had to upgrade for a fee, I've done so without hesitation. The programs I use the most are a browser, e-mail program, word processing program, and CopyPaste Pro, followed by TypeIT4Me. I do forensic evaluations as well as being in school for my clinical pysch doctorate. I write a lot. When Leopard came out and CopyPaste was incompatible, I tried some alternatives but was dissatisfied. I became a beta tester, and am glad I did. The current version is like the old versions I came to love, only better. I've never understood why Apple has never incorporated CopyPaste into their OS X. Everyone can benefit from having multiple clipboards, if only to re-access something that was copied to the clipboard an hour or more before. With the Archive option, you can keep certain things you use often accessible and separate from the standard History clipboards. I've set my preferences to retain my most recent 100 clips in my history. On top of this, CopyPaste saves all of your clips in all of your clipboards and archives between restarts. Just about perfect! [alert admin]

Apple iPhoto 7.1.4 (Mac OS X)
I can't believe I have to write this, but all the current iLife applications first require the purchase of wait for it.... iLife '08. No free lunch here. Buy it, then you can update the apps. iPhoto works great for me, many new options came with iPhoto 7 that I enjoy. I don't enjoy the dumbing down of iMovie and consequently have kept an older version on my Mac, in addition to the most recent. [alert admin]

CopyPaste + yType 2.02 (Mac OS X)
There is a CopyPaste Pro 1.0 for 10.5, now in beta 7
I downloaded it the first day I saw it on versiontracker a month or more ago. The next day it was gone. A whole new type of interaction. I like it much better. Can't find it on the developer's website now either, but the beta copy I have just let me update to beta 7. Go figure. I've used this program since OS 9 and consider it an essential. I'll buy it when it offers me a discount price for purchasing previous versions. [alert admin]

Apple QuickTime 7.4.1 (Mac OS X)
This update made me restart to complete installing. When it did, my dock keeps crashing and little snitch appears to have lost all it's rules. [alert admin]

Has anyone tried this with an Aria Extreme PCI card yet?
Not me, but somebody earlier said after installing all third party cards weren't recognized.

I reinstalled and everything has since worked fine. This time it did not damage my encrypted disk in any way. 9 is so much more integrated into the overall Mac operation that you would really have to consciously try to get by the security. I recommend it if you need security. Hippa compliant.

Mr. Vonkas, I suspect you were using the more complex compression engine. I can do an almost 7 gig DVD in under an hour in the least complex mode. I find that quality acceptable. PS. You sound like an adolescent ranting. You may not be, but I hope that's what it is.
