Unison 1.7.9 (Mac OS X)

I tried to like it

The completely different approach Unison brought to newsreading was a bit of a learning curve, and I was confident that once I got used to that, Unison would be my Thoth replacement. Unfortunately not. Just switching servers caused Unison to hang; sometimes it would eventually switch, other times I had to force quit. It would frequently unexpectedly quit if I started a new task while another was in progress. The Pars it created were almost always corrupted. I also missed being able to search for files without downloading all the headers, and marking a file read across multiple groups and servers. If you're looking to just browse groups on one server, no uploading, give it a try, but "power" users will have to hope for a better Unison 2. [alert admin]

Osiris 2.7 (Mac OS X)

Indispensable

I've used this program for over a year with no problems, it works perfectly and saves me an enormous amount of time. I just recently upgraded to 2.7 with no problems. I've been hoping for the ability to add a "zero" file to only the first post, and this version delivers it. Thanks to Wooden Brain Concepts for continuing to improve this app. [alert admin]

FTPeel 1.1.4 (Mac OS X)

Eliminates the busywork of ftp

This little app has transformed the way I update Websites. I set up Magic Mirrors for all my sites, and now I just drag all modified or new files to the FTPeel dock icon to upload. No more switching windows between servers, and no overwriting the wrong "index.html" file because I targeted the wrong directory. Traditional ftp chores like browsing remote directories, deleting files and changing permissions can be done effortlessly. I never thought I'd pay for an ftp app (had been using RBrowser Lite and ncFTP) but the few bucks is worth the time and hassle I'm being saved. FTPeel takes about 3 minutes to learn. [alert admin]
