FontExplorer X Pro 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I'm looking back at my previous rating, and the more I think about how frustrating the activation problem is, the more I should have downgraded this version. Compared to the previous free version, this one is a 1 or 2 star. I am currently testing Fusion 2, which I dropped in version 1 years ago. The good news: I'm encountering no glitches at all in Fusion 2. The only problem is that I have to reorganize all my smart suitcases again, and with 1000 fonts, that is a beast of a task. I hope FEX fixes theirs before my demo period runs out or I'll be forced to switch permanently. [alert admin]

FontExplorer X Pro 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I never had problems with the free version of FontExplorer X, but I've had enough troubles with the pro version that I'm actually thinking of switching back to Fusion. What's the problem? The benefit of FEX is that it activates requested fonts by applications. The problem is that it starts requesting erroneous fonts. The problem seems to be with Word and most Adobe Suite applications. FEX requests to activate "fonts" it cannot find on your system which are nothing but long strings of numbers like: 48958679291 Or when choosing a font already open within the application (like Adobe Caslon Bold) it requests the same font but then adds some extraneous characters to it and wants to open it as Adobe Caslon- ASynthCaslonBold... The advice from tech support it is to disable font request in all applications that give you trouble! Right now, every art application – for which I have the real need for font activation– is giving me trouble: Fireworks, Word, and Photoshop seem to be the worst offenders. Funny this was never a problem with the free version. I welcome any solution... [alert admin]

Loan Table 4.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Nice and quick little app. What would be nice is to be able to reverse it. To put in payment amt per month and number of months and the total loan amt and get the schedule. But still for a free app, it is nice. [alert admin]

GamePad Companion 2.4 (Mac OS X)
Does it WORK? With Logitech Dual? Call of Duty 2? COD4?
I wrote to the author, but have gotten no response in over a week. He's a small time operator... I have a demo that I've never used, but it says my trial has expired. Before I pay for the software, I'd like to know if anyone has gotten it to work with Call of Duty and / or Logitech Dual wired gamepad? What I see so far in my expired demo is that the Logitech is NOT seen in the interface, but I'm not sure if that is because the demo has expired or not.... Also, does it work with Call of Duty 2 or 4? I'm trying to test a gamepad on a first person shooter, but so far, while my Mac can see the gamepad in the USB channel, no game I have will register its buttons... Thanks Jeff [alert admin]

Tangerine 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Much Improved - almost Essential ![]()

(I am changing my review from the previous version which did not work for me.) I've tried a couple of color picker apps and Tangerine definitely seems the most flexible and useful in a multi-application environment! Very good. I can pick a color from a website and keep it in a palette for use in Fireworks, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. It is very useful in this regards and even does CMYK, so print users or scarfing colors from CMYK graphics for use on in RGB is pretty seamless. There are a lot of methods, so there is a small learning curve, but they have videos online to help you. Suggestions for improvements: docking or minimizing the palette would be a nice option when not in use, since the palette takes up a piece screen real estate. 2. I noticed that in Fireworks, e.g., I keep having to reselect Tangerine as my palette option in the color/swatch selector. That may be a limitation of Adobe's code, but just thought it would be nice if Tangerine could stay the default mode. However, in the applications I've tried, clicking on the Tangerine palette itself will load the color into the foreground color. The only thing that made me hesitate as I was filling out the 'buy' form was the price at $40. I started looking around for coupons, discounts, and alternative apps. It is a high price for a one trick pony, even though it is very good at what it does. While I don't use CMYK very much, there are other html pickers that integrate into the color selector, ( and one even adds swatches to the bottom of the color selector and is free: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23993 ), in the end, I decided that the future needs of CMYK may be the better choice. For a web developer professional, it was a borderline choice, considering it cost about 1/4 of the upgrade price for most of my major apps. I just am suggesting that a lower price might make for a wider market for the rest of solo web designers. [alert admin]

Grammarian PRO X 1.8.1 (Mac OS X)
I love what this application can do when I need it to proof things, but the darn app slows down my entire system in 10.4.11 and can create spinning beach balls galore. I'm in Safari and the app starts with a hot key, but Safari just chokes. I've noticed this problem in many apps. Spell Catcher, which doesn't have all the features of Grammarian, but doesn't cause these types of systemic problems. [alert admin]

As Elmer Fudd Said, "Be vewy, vewy careful." ONE version is for Leopard and the older for Tiger. Applejack has worked flawlessly for me, but the Leopard version is NOT for Tiger and vice versa.

I'm finding a lot more problems with VT 4.5.1 as well. I'm seeing a lot of my apps that have been updated now listed right next to the previously updated version, still showing the old version number on the "available" updates. So I'm seeing both the current version I have and the older version I used to have but do not have anymore. If I remove the old version from view, I'm concerned it…

I think your condemnation is a bit unfair. No developer can anticipate all the changes that might be required in a major OS upgrade. Just look at how many apps are broken in Vista, and it takes resources to redevelop a product for such an upgrade. Only top tier developers get prior access to all the hooks in the new OS before release, but even Adobe is suffering with some of its apps not being…

I heard that there was an audio problem with pops and clicks in this version. Is that fixed yet? Do you have any other recommendations for large project [multi-file] processing for FLV? I hear that the limit is 1000 files at a time? Or 100 files at a time? It doesn't stop working forever after you've processed 100 files ... no?
