ScriptWright:Mac 2007.8 (Mac OS X)
This is mislabeled as FREEWARE. If you go to the site, it describes this product as a demo. The retail price is 129.95. I've already alerted the site admins so they can correct the label to commercial. [alert admin]

Startup Chime Stopper 2.5 (Mac OS X)
RE: Startup Chime Stopper - Mac OS X
This developer has a history of releasing apps like this. The apps are of little or no value, and most have free or lower cost alternatives, but most people don't search for them. I tried one of their other apps, and wasn't that impressed. Most of the stuff they put out seems like homework assignments from a basic programming class. my .02 :-) [alert admin]

Typewriter Keyboard 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Starting to think this company should change its name...
to Rehash software. This is, seemingly, a re-work of an old classic mac control panel called tappytype (which was FREEWARE): http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/8737 TappyType was a funny little app meant for entertainment, nothing more. It boggles the mind to think anyone would actually try to sell something like this. I've looked at some of their other apps and this seems to fit in with the company's over all philosophy of creating nigh useless software and charging exorbitant prices for it. See my similar remarks on the following shareware gem from AlphaOmega: http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13736 NOTE: I have no relationship to the AlphaOmega site or the developer(s). I have not tried any of their software nor do I have any "axe" to grind with them. My opinions are based on my own simple observations, nothing more. [alert admin]

ASCII Viewer 3.2 (Mac OS X)
Is it just me, or does something seem funny about this software company? Every time you turn around they are putting out some bit of software that seems like a project from a tenth-grade "Introduction to Programming" class. I went to their website to check their other 'softwares' and most of it seems to be one-trick-pony applications. Go take a look and you'll see what I mean. Oh, and this app is wayyyyy over priced. They should be charging, at most $2.50 for something like this. [alert admin]

iAlert 6.1 (Mac OS X)
after installing the latest version. I was unable to start Mail or Safari. Did some troubleshooting (uninstalled ialert) and they still crashed after logout and login. Checked console crash logs and both pointed to a left over file called ialert helper in the input managers folder. Removed those then logged out and back in and, voilá, all was working again. Uninstaller needs to do a better job of cleaning up for itself. [alert admin]

BIAS Peak Pro 5.0 (Mac OS X)
And their upgrade policy is whacked too. After April 1st 2005, 39$. Well I purchased my copy of 4.1 on July 27th 2005. Received and installed on August 1st. I have had it for *9 DAYS* and they still expect me to pay 39$ for the upgrade. *9 DAYS*! This is too much! I am now asking myself if I really want to continue doing business with this company. If I had known they were that close to releasing 5 I would probably have waited to purchase it. And most companies have the decency to give a free upgrade if you buy their product within a certain period of time before the next big release. Say a month. I just specced another app which will be coming out at some point in an OSX native version. They said it will be 199.95, but if I purchase the classic version right now for 149.95 they will apply it towards the purchase price of the new version when it comes out, even if that's not until next year! WMF Viewer for Mac 1.0.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Crude (simple?) interface. Looks like it was slapped together in an afternoon. It only does one thing, opens .wmfs and converts them to other formats. Not sure why anyone would want to do anything with .wmfs on a Mac. Most .wmfs I've seen look like they were done by 5 year olds. But there are better ways to deal with them than this app. Graphic Converter ($30.00) can do a heck of a lot more and opens and converts a huge number of graphic formats and it only costs twice as much as this piece of fluff! Also, I believe if you have MS Office, you can import and export .wmfs. Not sure about that last part. :-) [alert admin]

Safari Bookmark Exporter 1.0.8 (Mac OS X)
I tend to switch between Safari, Netscape/Mozilla, Camino, Firefox and Omniweb (and more and more rarely, I.E.) and this makes it so much easier to to do. In about 30 seconds I can update all of the links between ALL the browsers. Major kudos to the developer for this one. [alert admin]

BookWorm 4.8 (Mac OS X)
to duplicate the functionality of the more professional and polished Z-Write. Except Z-Write does in one window what this app takes 3 windows to do. I tried Z-Write once and purchased it immediately. I wouldn't buy this with someone else's money. [alert admin]

It's what this company does best. Apparently. They have created a million and one applications, each one addressing one little 'niche' task. Then they charge some ridiculous amount for the program. According to their web site, their apps start at 15 Euros (about $18.00 American, as of this writing).
Visit their site and you'll see what I mean. It seems like they have some new app coming out daily, and most of them seem…

Nah, Microsoft really doesn't need to buy VMWare. Connectix already had VirtualPC for Windows available, which is why Microsoft bought them in the first place.
It's the VPC software which Microsoft is using to "enter" the emulation market. Their idea of entering a market meaning, of course, 'buy a company that does what we want to get into'. Just like with IIS, SQL, etc. etc
Microsoft are primarily aiming VPC at the IT world, so that IT…

great...after almost 10 years of waiting and...
Dude! Chill OUT! After almost 10 years you can certainly stand to wait a little while longer! :-) I had some trouble too, but mine was connecting to the server to download. Once that was straightened out on their end, it downloaded, expanded and installed perfectly. You are focusing on procedural stuff, not providing feedback about the program. Once it is installed, run it for a while and then about how you like it. I am personally so…

Actually, someone did think of it before. This was a feature of BeOS, which seemed to be in the running with NeXT when Apple was shopping around for an operating system they could purchase to build OSX on. You can kind of see it in this screenshot: http://www.beatjapan.org/mirror/www.be.com/products/beos_tour/screen3.html Be had (and has) a very devoted user and developer base, and a lot of people still use it. I'm not totally sure that Be designed the cube thing…
