DYMO LabelWriter 7.8 (Mac OS X)

Exercise in frustration.. but yes it can print

The software is one serious kludge. Yes, it supposedly can use your Mac Address book, but try finding a recently added name. There's no way to sort or search for an address in the little address book window. The addresses in that window don't seem to be sorted in any order.. perhaps date added? I typically find it just faster to copy/paste from address book into the label printer software than attempt to find an addy in the Dymo Address Book. Also, creating labels is funky monkey. There are no 'duplicate' commands to create variations on a previously created address layout. You can probably find the file itself somewhere through the finder, then duplicate/rename/open it. Overall, it's barely functional as an intuitive label software. [alert admin]

Intego VirusBarrier X 10.1.4 (Mac OS X)

Slowed my G4 DP 1.4Ghz to a craawwwllll....

I bought and installed VirusBarrier X to eliminate Microsoft Macro Viruses... which it did just fine. But... a few days after installing it I started to notice that my machine (and certain apps) had slowed to a crawl: Palm Desktop could barely keep up when typing a memo. Switching between apps was slower... and most notable when switching back to IE. InDesign was tediously slow... and I thought it had something to do with laying out 120 page book. Now that I'm done with a huge project (all done very slooowwwly), I had some time to see what might be affecting things. After removing NetUpdate and VirusBarrier folders from my startup folder, I feel like I have a new computer. Goodbye VirusBarrier. [alert admin]

SpamSieve 2.1.4 (Mac OS X)

Amazing piece of software!

SpamSiever really works! After a bit of training, my (multiple) mail accounts are spam free. Integration with Entourage is clean, effective, and easy. I no longer have to keep/modify my various spam Rules. I'm amazed. (And, I'm amazed how much this sounds like an ad... but really, this really works!) [alert admin]

FaxElite 6.0.2 (Mac OS 9)

This new version…

of FaxElite finally does what I've wanted in fax software for years! You can actually mark-up the faxes with text and pasted graphics and then send them off. I no longer have to print, fill out, scan and send back to fill out various forms. FaxSTF added this feature some time ago... but the program was so buggy and slow that I couldn't possibly use it. This thing works! [alert admin]

Way too expensive...

The other commentor is right... MagicScroll is designed for professional use. MagicScroll was the FIRST teleprompter solution for Macintosh and has been sold to the film/video/stage production industry for 15 years. The difference between a 'kludge' solution like Keynote... or an inexpensive Mac prompter is a combination of features, ease-of-use... and most importantly... speed. When the President of the United States says "Change that word "anywhere' to 'somewhere', it needs to happen fast. With professional prompting…

There are no viruses for Mac OS X

You have often posted that there are no viruses for Mac OSX, and you ask "Why Bother?" Here's why: I often receive, modify, then return Microsoft Word files from/to clients. Oftentimes, the file will have moved from several computers (even the client's) many times before it's "final." Many, many times the file becomes infected with a Microsoft MacroVirus - the Ethan Fromm virus in particular. And yes, they are, essentially benign on the Mac.…
