BluePhoneMenu 1.2.15 (Mac OS X)
OSX 10.4.4 does not get on with this.
Since installing OSX 10.4.4 I noticed that the download speed of my cable internet connection (via an Airport Xt router) had slowed to an absolute crawl. Eventually by a process of elimination, I discovered that BluePhoneMenu is the culprit. I am sad about this as I really like this little app, but there you go [alert admin]

BluePhoneMenu 1.2.15 (Mac OS X)
It seems the developer has taken the advice given in the post underneath yours and is now developing the successor to this as a shareware app. As it says above "BluePhoneMenu is no longer supported. It has been superceeded by BluePhoneElite." [alert admin]

Acquisition 103.4 (Mac OS X)
Ignore the religious bigotry - it's a great app ![]()

There are many supporters of Poisoned in particular who object to this app as a matter of an almost religious belief that nobody ought to be able to make money off the back of an open source project (and no, I don't know how they square that with Apple basing the whole of OSX on open source). It is also peculiar that they manage to work up so much moral indignation over apps whose main purpose is to enable theft of music software and pornography. They also say that the developer is surly and unhelpful. I don't know about this, as his app works so well and has such an intuitive interface, that I have had no reason to speak to him and have no need for him to be my friend, but I paid my shareware fee gladly. This is a huge improvement on Limewire (which also has a nag screen asking for money). The free Poisoned gets more search results, though many will not download and those that do take much longer to come through. MlMac (also free) gets many more usable search results than either of these though most of them also download very slowly and the app itself is in a much earlier and cruder stage of development. It can also use huge chunks of your hard drive and choke your internet connection if you are not careful. So I still find Acquisition very useful. Thoroughly recommended. [alert admin]

This is free. It works. It makes a lot of avi files playable by the Quicktime player which otherwise are not. What is the problem? [alert admin]

Intego Personal Backup X 10.1.0 (Mac OS X)
the comments here are very negative, (and I do feel that too many of them are reviewing Intego the company rather than the actual app), it is worth noting that this app has had a quite favourable review in the latest issue of MacUser here in the UK, and they are usually quite tough. [alert admin]

Freeway 3.5.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
explain, because I as a user have always liked the fact that Freeway is such an elegant and beautiful app. Like the best Mac apps it hides great power behind a simple interface. It cannot do everything that Dreamweaver can, but it gets darn close, and if you have any DTP experience, the learning curve is just puddle shallow. Add in the fantastically helpful user community and you are rocking & rolling. What more could you want? [alert admin]

Archer 2.3.1 (Mac OS X)
app. I have been living in the UK for 50 odd years and have no idea what purdey1 is prattling on about. Apart from men with bows and arrows, the only other thing I can think of, is a rather disgusting sweet Peach Schnapps that is sold under this name. [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 10.2.0 (Mac OS X)
the point, FA Pro is trying to pitch itself against Suitcase and Font Reserve, both of which sell at a similar price point. I think the other posters are just a tad harsh. I agree that this app does not yet work as seemlessly as it should, and still lacks some bells and whistles, but fonts are one of the trickiest things to handle on your Mac, and this is just the initial release. It looks very promising to me, with a nice simple UI and a good feature set. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this to see how it progresses. If everything worked as advertised and all the glitches were ironed out it would be worth 4 stars, so I'll give it 2 0h what the hell! 3 at the moment to indicate promise. Suitcase and Font Reserve could use the competition too. I also really dislike the copy protection scheme that ties it down to a particular machine so maybe I'll take that extra star back again. But keep an eye on this one it could become really excellent [alert admin]

PTHClock 1.7.1 (Mac OS X)
your menubar display completely customisable. Only drawback is the preferences assume you are a bit of a unix geek and know the unix date/time formatting commands. If you are not, open the Terminal app in the Utilities folder and type in "man strftime" and return and the unix time format commands will start to display. Maybe I should deduct one star for not providing a read me file to tell you that, but I haven't because its freeware. Excellent. [alert admin]

I understand your download problem, and think you are perfectly entitled to make a charge for a sizeable download, but you are overstating it a tad. If the dmg file is compressed, it should be quite a lot smaller than 750 Mb.

This is undoubtedly a very good app, but this pricing scheme, while legal, is unusual, so I have every sympathy with the complainant. It is easy to miss the terms and easier still not to realise their implications. Mr. Hamrick should provide both earlier versions of VueScan and a clearly worded warning before someone downloads an update which will have this effect. What Mr. Hamrick has done is lured him in at one price, and…

Limewire asks you to pay too, so I don't think he is doing anything strange. And as a previous poster said, you don't have to. Registering this does not unlock any otherwise hidden features, it only makes the nag messages disappear.

Review the app, not the developer. Why anyone would need to get in touich with him beats me anyway. The app is totally solid and childishly simple in use.
