This was released in April 2008. I think that energy should be spent in developing NEW and improved versions. Not releasing old stuff again. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.3.81 (Mac OS X)
I had a think about the previous post where the guy complained about speed. I got to thinking and ran a trial myself Scanner: Epson Expession 1680 FW Computer Powermac G5 2.5G dual. Processor load set to Maximum. OS10.4.8 Conditions A4 page @ 300 DPI 24 bit colour. Single pass - No preprocessing in any scan program - all auto exposure settings 1. Epson Scan 2.77E scan time to photoshop - 19.6 seconds Colour hot and oversaturated. bad match to target 2. Silverfast Ai Studio 6.4.7a scan time to photoshop - 19.5 seconds Colour natural - good match to target. 3. VueScan 8.3.81 scan time to photoshop 20.0 seconds Colour natural - almost as good as SF I think for the money vuescan provides an admiral scanning solution. Silverfast is a high end professional program costing a lot more than VueScan. Both Silverfast and Vuescan support IT8 calibration, making them a serious image acquiring apps. Where as EpsonScan could be ranked here as a low - end hobby application. As stated above, the colour fidelity was fairly close in comparison. However the down side of Vuescan in preview mode is it's unfailing moire laden display. Silverfast lacks this BUT at the price, it would want to. [alert admin]

Diabetes Logbook X 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)
My wife and I are BOTH diabetics and would dearly love to try this program. But our machine is not capable of running Tiger. Alas we are stuck on 10.3. Is there any possible way of getting Diabetes Logbook to run in Panther? [alert admin]

Google Earth 3.1.0621.0 (Mac OS X)
For a complete novice, I had Google Earth up, configured and mastered in 15 minutes flat! The detail is unbelievable! Have a look at Hong Kong... Cars, Ferries, Busses! Unreal! Only one small addition, can the building hieghts be displated? Currently only ground level topography elevation is available. PLEASE snoop out rural New South Wales more!!!! Thanks for a truly educational, inspiring product! [alert admin]

SilverFast Ai (Epson) Expression 1680 6.4.2r9 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
1680 on firewire is so quick it's scary!
The 1680 on firewire goes faster than anything I've ever seen. Silverfast Ai Studio scans a full A4 page in 15 seconds flat (300 dpi / 200 lpi). I wonder how that compares to a scsi connection. Feedback from scsi users please. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.6 (Mac OS X)
This seems common. The last 3 updates were released late in the week and it wasn't until the following week that the updates were available. Looks like the lights are on at Micromat but nobody is home. Maybe they should consider using a remote control app like Timbuktu to bring their FTP back on line. I think with the money this company generates in sale of its products, that the unreliable nature of Micromat's FTP server is unforgiveable. Come on you guys... we all paid top dollar for service. Now give it to us. [alert admin]

Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 (Mac OS X)
I upgraded to Premium CS for our company on the 6th of January this year. However I ordered it a month before. I got an email from them today and it said "upgrade to premium suite and recieve a FREE upgrade when it ships" This is to V 2.0 one would imagine. OK... so I called them to see what's up and yes we did upgrade to prem suite in January etc. They replied that we were not eliglble for free upgreade, but would upgrade me for $999. HEY!!! I paid $1492 in JANUARY - How can this be? They said well... that's the price. If you got ripped off too... send some bad press of your own. Macaddict Magazine will score a cc of this review as well. I hope they have the guts to print it. [alert admin]

As a struggling graphics nut, my biggest worry when I transitioned to OS X was the loss of Adobe Type Manager. My biggest fear was how in the world am I going to control all my fonts. I produce a large amount of docs in native Photoshop format because of the editabliity of the text. So... how in the world was I going to be able turn all those pesky fonts on and off? With Insider Software's Font Agent Pro! That's how! This dream app does all the thinking for you. Drop a plugin into Photoshop (other apps too) and if the font is in FAP's list, it's auto activated. Even Type Manager was never this friendly. It took only a few minutes to get a viable font database up and running. As I needed use more fonts I only had to import them. The stability of FAP is astounding, this app has never ever locked up or caused any grief on my mac. With version 3.0 here now I am really keen to explore it's new features and really give it a big push, but I am pretty sure it won't go down. These guys actually TEST their products before release - I was going to mention a BIG company that released an os upgrade that literally fried heaps of external FW drives. Better not. Although the newest release killed my virus prog. I hope they get it fixed soon. Hmmm. Anyway I want to thank Bruce and Derek and staff for their expertise for what is in my humble opinion - besides zedonet's print fab (sorry guys had to get that in!) the most useful accessory for serious use. There are lower end apps out there. But I think if you find something truly great, never... ever... compromise. It's just not worth the aggravation. In conclusion, you are a mac user, so you have first rate hardware. Get out there NOW and get yourself a copy of Insider's Font Agent Pro. It's a match for the mac... First rate software. Thanks Guys! [alert admin]

I have been a user of VueScan for almost forever. Gees Ed... What's all this kiddie stuff about? The apps got almost all the bells and whistles. NOW it has idiot mode. PLEASE ED!!! put a switch in to disablr this pain in the butt. Only one more switch in the prefs: Idiot Mode on / off. Ok now how bout something real useful? I wish for 3M Matchprint CMYK conversion. Come on ED you can do it! It could be a process after preview (or scan) and a whole lot more use than the fore mentioned "Idiot Mode" [alert admin]

manually install the package, download it from VersionTracker. It installs and works fine. If you try the auto update - you get the error message.

This sounds like a preference problem. get all the vuescan prefs files.... DELETE them! I had a similar problem, my vuescan would not serialise. This turned out to be a prefs problem. incidently... vuescan used to store all the prefs in an .ini file in the program's directory. It is now stored in your user prefs. Make SURE you zap that one.

Yep had this happen awhile back. It does send shivers up youre spine! This my friend is caused by a bad preference file. Delete the prefs file found in users/library/prefs/lasersoft imaging/silverfast. Restart your machine and you will be good to go. Hope this helps!

Try restting your PRAM. I lost audio on my g5 and one other time no ethernet. Restting PRAM fixed it in both cases. Apple suggested doing it 5 times! So I did. (restart hold apple (+) option and the p (+) r keys down till the thing chimes. then 4 more times and your away. You could also try this: Re-install safari Reset safari delete your cache with *censored*tail delete the safari prefs + .plist
